- Did you know that a piece of cloth could tell you that the person is single and ready to mingle? 👀
Yup, that’s the samping (not spelled sampin ye!), which is one out of five essential pieces that make up the Baju Melayu.
In Malaysia, the traditional attire comes in two distinct styles, the Baju Teluk Belanga and Baju Cekak Musang.
In this video, we explain the meanings the buttons and pockets carry, and how the placement of the samping could even tell you the man’s relationship status!
The Baju Melayu is commonly worn in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, parts of Thailand and the Philippines.

Make this a series pleaseee. For all Malaysians traditional attire. There's so many videos abt western and european historical clothing, I would love to see more of ours. And maybe try to invite a local clothing expert to talk abt it if there's even one.
Great idea
Agreed
Yeah
Without Baju Melayu, Raya Is Nothing.
Those without samping ruins it no offense hahaha
@@uberinfinitegaming yeahhh
@@uberinfinitegaming Look bland asf. It's ok la if you're resting or anything but go beraya without samping ...🙃nope for me😂
Although every state has its traditional clothing, the Sultanate of Johor's influence and power makes Baju Melayu spread widely to Sumatera and the Malayan Peninsula.
I'm grateful for the Sultan for introduce the national and proud Baju Melayu!
FYI that kind of baju Melayu back then was popular among commoners. The Cekak Musang or Kedah Style (Agong officials dress) is only for the King or Raja Yang Di Pertuan and Royal members. So now you know where modern Johor has that kind of style. and read history for the details.
@@imdamuji9227 wow amazing.. i pray that this clothing tradition never extinct in the next generation neither revolutionalise it by firstly reading history books
yeah.. even the bahasa melayu-riau (widely use in peninsula) is also from johor
Bila tengok video ni rasa tak sabar untuk tengok siri-siri baju traditional masyarakat lain. Good job SAYS
we wear baju melayu in Riau every friday at school 🇮🇩
Same but the problem is we need to wear it in white so it's damn annoying. Suddenly go back home to found out that a mark from your friend's shoe or anything is on the baju melayu
Penyebutan model baju dan penamaannya cekak musang dan teluk belanja dividio itu sama ga bang dengan Melayu di Indonesia?
Great content about the baju melayu. Not really sure why in Singapore, the baju melayu is also known as baju kurung lelaki. Love from SG!
Orang Johor 😅 pun cakap - Baju Kurung untuk Lelaki & Perempuan ....
Sampai KL je mereka kata *Baju Melayu*
Hmmm *Konfius* sekejap 😅🤭
Istilah *Baju Melayu* itu luas maknanya iaitu meliputi *semua busana* yang ada di Kepulauan Melayu / Malay Archipelago / Nusantara
Jika silap sila betulkan saya

Cara hidup pun seperti Melayu. Berbeza dengan orang bangsa Jawa di Indonesia mereka mempunyai bahasa mereka sendiri ,adat & pakaian jawa sendiri & masih ramai mengamalkan adat hindu .
It was originally call baju kurung lelaki. Before it became known as baju melayu.
Tahniah SAYS !!! Suara latar belakang sudah bahasa inggeris jadi lebih baik kalau sarikata dalam bahasa melayu . 🤗
A well auto-tuned sultry voice of Miss Brenda. Sounds a bit younger than how she normally appeared in Says videos.

Teluk Blangah is a place in southern Singapore 🇸🇬. It was administrative place during Johor empire after it moved from Riau island, Indonesia. Then when british came and 'messes' things up, Johor administrative move to Tanjung Puteri in Johor and the history of Modern Johor begins. However, some lands in Teluk Blangah are still belong to Johor Sultanate till now. The land and Masjid Daeng Ibrahim where its located now opposite Vivo City Mall and entrance getaway to Sentosa Island (Universal studio) is belong to Johor sultanate.

More videos like these please! Very informative and a great way to showcase our diverse Malaysian cultures 😍
Wow! Thanks for this informative video! Me myself as a Malay also might not know it all😬
OMG it reminds me to my uncle. Every Raya he back to Indonesia and wear his baju melayu. We go for Eid prayer and he is very proud wearing baju melayu eventhough he is Indonesian (he lives in KL for almost 30 years and became Malaysian citizen). Unfortunately he passed away due to colon complication in May last year amid the lock down in KL. We, family in Indonesia can not visit his grave till now due to pandemic. :‘(

THanks for this. Some of the facts are new to me!
I hope after this pandemic end, we could have a National Traditional Costume day where all Malaysian come to work, school or collage dress up in their traditional attire. Our neighbor Indonesia have National Batik Day, Kartini Day where women wear kebaya on April 21 and few other country have it too.. people will said you always saw it on Friday what?? ya.... but not a specific date as national event. so why not us?

Why must mentioned worn by Muslim? Baju Melayu is cultural, not religious...
I agree. It is cultural as well as the national dress which can be worn by anyone, especially if you’re attending royal functions. I also believe that the representations made on the number of buttons and pockets were coincidential and added quite recently.
@@musinkaboi6665 I agree. In a way, this is another example of the Malays trying to look at the cultural aspect of their lives through the prism of Islam, despite having its root in Hindu-Buddhism.
No, the islamic influence really influence the design of baju Melayu.
@@IsaacRizard The root of Malay belief is monotheism or agama yang hanif. We adopt vedic and buddhist but easily embraced islam because of the concept of monotheism. The concept of Sang Hyang Agung.
@@IsaacRizard But, Islam does influence the design of Baju Melayu. If you learn about the origin more it will make more sense.
You can search how the Malays dress before the invention of Baju Kurung yourself. Then, will you see the Hindu-Buddha influence that you really wanted to see..

Its a well-explained video about the concept of Islam applied in Baju Melayu. This shows that Islam does not strip off the identity of a race. I do hope someday I would be able to see the concept of Islam applied to the chinese or indian clothing to be worn by the chinese- or indian-muslim community respectively. It is sad to know the non-muslim thought that when embracing Islam, it means you would leave behind your roots.
race and religion shouldn't be in mixed in the first place lol
@@user-rc6xh2ln3r That's your beliefs and I have my own beliefs. You live in with your beliefs and I live with mine. I view Islam is the way and can be integrated in every aspects of life without diminishing it a bit.

Untung gaada batik 😂
Batik asal china…fabricate textile
@@lastangel3017 nope, Kata Batik dipastikan berasal dari Jawa Indonesia. Tetapi seni/teknik ini ditemukan di berbagai negara dan pertama kali dikembangkan di Mesir pada abad ke-4 jadi Batik memang milik orang Indonesia, tetapi seni/teknik dimiliki dunia, tapi tetap dari segi alat, corak, bahan tetap berbeda dengan cina, tapi tekniknya sama, jadi kl mau klaim ganti namanya jgn batik wkwkkw.
