- this type 22 pillbox was put here at the start of WW2 to protect garston docks incase hitler decided on a land invasion during the war
its sat on the edge of Garston docks since the war and is pretty much left and forgotten about
it can be seen on the private promenade in cressington.....the esplanade......i still cant say that right lol
the first visit didn't go as planned as you will see but the second one was more relaxed
i usually go treasure hunting down here also which is fun...as you will also see in the video

Oh wow, the memories came flooding back (see what i did there) as kids we would build wooden jetties and kinda makeshift barriers to see how long we could hold back the tide, then we'd climb to safety as our dams washed away. Who else remembers the schwepps wagon up on the docks, it had orange, lemonade and ginger beer, it was there for ages, i guess i was abt 11 then im 61 now.
FFS, G! That took me back some 60yrs...my arse was nipping then as well! :D
I loved playing round there as a kid. We didnt have tide time apps to ignore but always called dry feet a success!
wow 60 years believe me my arse was at the time to ha ha
thanks for watching mate
amazing george that intro was something else
thank you glad you liked it thanks for watching
Agreed 🤝🏻
thank you helen
Hi George and Eric, great drone footage. It was nice to see the gun pillbox, but that was scary. I'm glad you returned for a follow-up video.
Just a thought: Wouldn't you next time use a metal detector? l surprised what you found great explor 👍
hi martin thanks mate glad you liked the video i love mooching round here always something new to see
i have been down with a mate and his detector surprisingly he didn't find anything
High mate not sure if you are aware but there is another type 22 pill box behind The Leasowe Castle on the headland just off the golf course in Wirral. It's easy accessible from either Moreton carpark by the Green Hut or further down Leasowe road.Bonus is you probably won't die getting to it!
Exciting stuff that guys! If the tide cut you off how long would you have to wait in the box…?
Would be a cool wild camp though 👏
cheers for watching chris if that tide cut me off id be there for a good few hours before it went out again probably 5pm oneards when it was going out again that day
ha ha yeh ive thought how cool would that be of a nigh wild camping.....but its covered in rats im told
@@g2emedia1977 swerve that then! 😬😬
ha ha its ok when the tide is right out
I’m glad you got back safe, x
thanks barb
The last time I saw tide coming in & out like that was when I lived in Torbay 22 years ago ...
was it the same as that one
@@g2emedia1977 Used to live by the spiral set of stairs next to the beach/harbour just as you come into Torquay. Always went to watch the tide coming in. Storms were best cause it was like a bubble bath 🛀
Nice to see you both out and about again. I remember your first video on the pillbox and became a subscriber after watching it. I was brought up just off Brodie Avenue and used to cycle/walk along the Esplanade and Otterspool Prom. I remember my Dad telling me a story of when he was a lad and scrumping apples from an orchard in one of the big houses. He said on exploring around the area he and his pals came across what he said was a dock and someone told him it was a private and the story was that the Germans had considered it for housing a submarine. Not sure of how accurate the story was but sounded really interesting. Keep up the good work
wow you must have been one of my first subscribers that's brilliant thanks and thanks for sticking around
that story is probably accurate id say just as well they never won the war as it would probably be used for vessels like that either way a very interesting story
its lovely around these parts i often go for a wander its really nice in the summer to
thanks for watching and for subbing cheers
Well in there George. Who dares wins! Really enjoyed watching. Have a great week mate.
@LeeLocke thanks glad you liked it
Wowsers ... 20 mins in & I have a few questions ... was there no escape the other direction ? Couldn't you have got to the land when you were in top of that box ? Did Eric get the treasure when he turned back ?
the other end you used to be able.to climb the wall but they have put massive barbed wire there now which made any escape impossible
the land behind the box was the docks and i did think of climbing the fence if it got to much but just went back the way i came i didnt want to spark a full scale river rescue
eric left the treasure ha ha
@@g2emedia1977 Cool, just watched the rest ... I used to live in Paignton/Torquay & Bournemouth from 1996-2002 & 2005. The people were disgustingly arrogant, but the place was stunning.
Might be stuck in Wolverhampton now, but not visiting down south again. I wanna go to Northern Ireland on Stenaline
Wouldn’t you have thought Eric would have lowered a rope ladder down for ye 😂
ha ha not a chance
Am looking forward for this one I like the book side one I was there in the early 1990s and I remember the quality shelter to and I had my shellsuit on and my file, Tweenies on we all need to go back to the old 90s
thanks for watching hope you like the vid mate
ha ha yeh love the 90s mate
Hope you've got a chart with the tides on now 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
ha ha yes this video is the 2 videos combined the first visit that went a bit wrong and the second more relaxed one lol
@@g2emedia1977 Seriously, be careful out there 🏊♂️
will do promise
Great content again George. Had a few of these near me when I was little. All i can remember is the smell of shit 😅😅😅.
Brilliant this!!
What do ya do if someone reports ya for being down there or get caught??
I walk my dog at cressington espalanday 😂
i love it round there
You didn't need to go along a beach when you could have got there through the old woodyard, which is now a housing estate
and where is this said woodyard?
George, have you Been to explore the tunnels under the Botanical Gardens in Wavetree 🤔
is that the shelters mate if so yes done em ages ago
Jewellery is often deposited into the river Thames as a religious offering. I wonder if the items you're finding in the Mersey is for a similar reason. Anyway, thanks for the great video!
OK lads should add or subtract the high or low tide according to the port you are in IE Garston times + - should be on the Web site you are on I always use laver's lpool tide table .. sorry to be a smart arse 😊
cheers for the info dave
Out going tide next time mate😂
Would it not have been a good idea to read a tide table first?
Read it wrong...oops
@@g2emedia1977 As someone who has gone out onto salt marshes and salt flats for many years, I've always found it necessary to know where the tide is, what stage it's at and it's times for high and low water marks. You could have come a cropper.
TIME AND TIDE WAYTS FOR NO MAN
indeed...thanks for watching
Incoming, and it wasn't The Germans.....it was the tide 🤪😉🤪
ha ha yeh true that
Jesus, do you not know how tides work? You picked exactly the wrong moment.
i didnt the first time but i returned very knowlegeable lol
thanks for watching max
Boat next time mate :)
ha ha yes deffo
war is profit. nice business for pill box makers. the germans attacking garston port ha ha ha . quality work gents, Garston docks intrigues me. cheers.
Foolish
?
Lol😂Why didn’t you start on an out going tide?😂
Yeah absolutely insane! At high tide the water there is upwards of a foot deep! This is more dangerous than rock climbing with no ropes! Mad bastard.
