Amazing song , kind of one from many since the last fin de siecle times. But for me my beloved and symbolical from begining listening metal music. I was fifteen only .., love U guys and your music for almost 26 years ..sorry for my gramm :) IF we trust !!
A Classic...when I hear the guitar kick in in the beginning, I want to jump around and beat the drywall of the walls of my home...maybe an idea for if I ever have to remodel, lol.
I love how this song incorperates the Norse mythology. such a great thing. fucking amazing song...and a great mythical creature it describes (the Jotun that is).
favorite albums, jester race, lunar strain, and whoracle what can I say, I love death metal they're new stuff is still amazing though, have no problem with any of their albums, all great
"Jotun" is a foreshadowing of the main concepts where a society is crushed and broken after an apocalyptic event -wikipedia if this is what you mean you better know that in flames got that right
When they do, my friend, it will be crap. Enjoy In Flames' old masterpieces; and listen to the new bands trying to walk the path they walked. Some of them are quite good. But oh, so few come near to the greatness that In Flames once were...
Jocke Gothberg would be a suitable fit, he did a demo with In Flames for the song Dead Eternity. Check it out, I think you may be surprised on how awsome it is =)
well yeah, I just thought anyone who read it would fill in the blanks because all everyone talks about is how In Flames was a pioneer in the melo death genres
Well, the songs are being developed during the recordings. The lyrics, however, are written by Jesper... Which is what I meant, but didn't come out right. :p
well,i couldn't find anywhere on youtube, and on google it took me a while to find it on a russian site...that's why i found it rare...anyway,it's the best Jotun performance i guess
In flames is still pretty good band today compared to any other band but if u compare the new songs to the old songs u'll quickly see that the lyrics are much better in older songs and that the melodies and solos were better before. Still today they are awesome live and their new songs beats a lot of other new metal bands! I like new in flames and love their old songs :) even though anders sings in a different way today he is still good.
I'm not sure about grendel, I think he was a hybrid of troll and something else. Don't ask me about the origin, I''m interested in Old Norse but know very little about it. However, I think Jotunheim is "Troll country" or "land of trolls" something like that. So either could have the origin of the other.
Grendel was a son of Kane. The first murderer, the writer of the epic Beowulf was a Christian, and Sons of Kane were used to describe men who seemed evil. Not a literal thought, of course, but like calling a mean girl a witch, doesn't mean you think she is a high priestess of Wicca.
This song is insane!I love the lyrics of this song. \m/ And gunstar9 comment is fucken true hahaha :D I laughing that comment about two days XDDD ( bad english :S ) Metal
Ninjahua the ''reason'' they changed was none, they do not want to repeat what they've done, they wanna progress and explore new areas that's about it. I mean if you listen album-wise from Jester to ASOP then you'll like it. I mean if you listen album after album they do not change so much from album to album, maybe if you compare Jester Race with Asop it's pretty different, But they still have influences and stuff from Old Era in their new music. And if you still don't understand then your deaf
Wow, from IF, my favourite song is this, Jotun. ...But my favourite album is Reroute to Remain. (I think Trigger is the shit too) After reading these comments, I guess I'm a one of a kind, you're meant to either love old IF or love new IF. Can't do both. Come on guys. Bands change. There's reasons why.
I think hating the new In Flames is basically a meme thing that people learn and then repeat to sound like credible metal heads. In Flames has always been good. I will often hear a new In Flames song and think, "This is a great song. What album is this on again? Old or new?" I bet if you told a pretentious old In Flames only fan that a new song was just a lost B side from the olden times, they'd say, "This is awesome!"
erm...their is only 1 singer^^...or do you mean the one from "Lunar Strain" and "Subterranean"?... The other singer (Anders Friden) joined 1995..so this song is not the old singer...its the one who is still singing and writing for In Flames
TRUE fans won't diss their new shit :P They'll look back with fondness on the old and let down their hair, they'll listen to the new and relate to it just as much.
lol it's not a live, they don't use so many guitars during one song ^^ They just used the video from their lives and the song from the album to make that fucking good video
@villainousturtle I'm with QuantumGloom on this one. There is a CLEAR difference between their old stuff and their new stuff and any In Flames fan could easily tell the difference. Lunar Stain had a different vocalist! I don't dislike new stuff because it's some "meme", I dislike it because their old work was much BETTER than the songs their producing now.
Don't get me wrong, I could handle everything up to Come Clarity, and that was pushing it. But once A Senseless Piece of Garbage came out, I drew the line R.I.P In Flames
Damn... I can understand the singer could be replaced, but their guitar-skills need to be what they used to be. But hey, if you guys don't like the new In Flames, start your own bands, make your own legends, become like them! Thats what me and my dudes are doing (although most of them never heard of In Flames (which sux)).
Great Rifs and very good vocals thanks Jesper for the great sound! and Anders for your great vocie!
Been a fan as an adolesent in 1999, but haven't heard anything bad from them ever since. Musical fellows, these guys. Kudos!
Amazing song , kind of one from many since the last fin de siecle times. But for me my beloved and symbolical from begining listening metal music. I was fifteen only .., love U guys and your music for almost 26 years ..sorry for my gramm :) IF we trust !!
So pretty and melodic, always been my favourite song of theirs. Wish they made a video for it.
A Classic...when I hear the guitar kick in in the beginning, I want to jump around and beat the drywall of the walls of my home...maybe an idea for if I ever have to remodel, lol.
Real In Flames ;( so miss that real masterpiece
The song is excellent and missing old In Flames more than anything. RIP In Flames

When they do, my friend, it will be crap. Enjoy In Flames' old masterpieces; and listen to the new bands trying to walk the path they walked. Some of them are quite good.

\m/ in flames i trust-ED :(
Jocke Gothberg would be a suitable fit, he did a demo with In Flames for the song Dead Eternity. Check it out, I think you may be surprised on how awsome it is =)
I agree, although this obviously is the studio version :)

That intro blows up every god
A jotun (jötunn originally) is a giant in Norse mythology.
agree!
in flames we trust
the lyrics own. "Can we identify them as the flint burried in our reptile skulls or the time bomb coded in your DNA!"
carried a time bomb in our dna, and reptile skulls?
wow in flames lyrics reminds me of alien vs. predator and that in itself is just badass
lol
i rly like the newest stuff, its more like my type of music, but i like the old ones too
The one who's writing the songs isn't Anders, it's Jesper.
i actually like the newest things from in flames i like all in flames cause they are so fuuuuckin god

Seeing this makes me wish Jesper was still in the band.

old in flames !
believe that the jotun were some sort of norse mythical giant.... im pretty sure but i could be wrong
When In Flames was good..woo hoo!
Indeed, the giant of ice. Apparently it can also mean troll, but I'm not so sure about the reliability of this claim.
ahh bjorn on drums i don't think he's better on drums but i just can't forget the days :(
reality in flamea
are they using marshall valvestates on tis album?
bjorn on the fuckin drums
tru say man there new cd relli doesnt cut it compared to this and the whole come clarity cd
@gunstar9carbon-based and ostrogene-crystalisation i think.
back when in flames was good...
Wow, from IF, my favourite song is this, Jotun.
...But my favourite album is Reroute to Remain. (I think Trigger is the shit too)

they don't suck.they are still good.the last album (a sense of purpose) is great.
TRUE fans won't diss their new shit :P They'll look back with fondness on the old and let down their hair, they'll listen to the new and relate to it just as much.
FUCK THAT, INFLAMES IS A BADASS AS EVER!
and when i wake up...
lol it's not a live, they don't use so many guitars during one song ^^
They just used the video from their lives and the song from the album to make that fucking good video
Did you know that some bands have older albums? Come on! In Flames is pushing 20 years with 9 albums and several EPs.
@villainousturtle high five!
@villainousturtle I'm with QuantumGloom on this one. There is a CLEAR difference between their old stuff and their new stuff and any In Flames fan could easily tell the difference. R.I.P In Flames
do that, but then in flames will never be the same
progression means moving forward, not backwards.
What does Jotun means?
In Flames We Fucking Trust!
Holland \,,/
Does "Jotun" mean anything in swedish?
Imagine Glenn Ljungström on guitar, and bass if not Anders Iwers or Peter Iwers?
Damn... I can understand the singer could be replaced, but their guitar-skills need to be what they used to be. But hey, if you guys don't like the new In Flames, start your own bands, make your own legends, become like them! its actually spelt "jǫtunn" and they werent trolls, they were giants.
Fuck it all man
In Flames were Death metal melodic gods
thats all
what ever happened to In Flames?....
... oh yeah thats right...
@metaldude1011 new in flames old in flames that sucks! there's only 1 in flames
Well, I do.
There's a difference between Melodic Death & "Normal" Death, that's all I'm saying. Peace.
