Saw these guys back in the day at the Fillmore East. They were second on the bill. Opening act was Chicago Transit Authority and the headliners were the Mothers Of Invention. Buddy and his band stole the show for me. They were overwhelming! They had me when the roadies wheeled his drumset out and spent 10 minutes nailing his drums securely to the riser!
I was a teen when I went to see Grateful Dead, Sir Douglas Quintet and this unknown band named Buddy Miles Express. I left with this album and drove my mom crazy playing it non-stop. He and his band were a thousand times better than those other "name" bands. Brings back awesome memories!
Absolutely great horns matching one of Buddy Miles' greatest vocals. I thought an eight-minute Buddy Miles would fatigue me but I was wrong. This was quite exhilarating.
Just a beautiful cover of this song..dont know much about Buddy but loved his music always. He seemed to have such a genuine blues feel. Would have been great to see him live.
Buddy also played with John Mclaughlin on Devotion. Check out the intro to Marbles, how his drum patterns invite the bass to come in and the way he varied his volume and intensity. I had this on LP and wore it the F out, had another copy saved for a future and better system. It's not a great recording as far as quality goes- it's noisy. To play it on you tube, it's cut off, as it segues into the next song. This is a fab song, I now realize I've never heard the whole thing b4. WOW! Killer!
My favorite cut from this LP... It's no small feat to have a slow Blues Ballad extend to 8 minutes and change, and not be boring: It's a testament to whomever wrote this arrangement (collaborative, I suspect), and BM's own vocal magic, that it is NEVER boring, quite the contrary. (If I told you how many seductions I perpetrated with this playing in the background, a LONG time ago, you'd think I was bragging, or lying, or both.) If you want to see an illustrious career that should be better known than it is, check this out: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_Miles
My favorite version of this song. Beverly Jo Scott does a nice version,of course Otis Redding, but Buddy Miles takes it home.Put his foot in it & made it his

Chicago Transit Authority was a hip band I really digged Terry Kath’s sound. The Buddy Miles Express was a groovy band too, as well as The Mothers.
