This group performed for more than 50 years!! They have a true gift!! This song has been in MANY movies!! Many black movies as well! Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta is a movie that The Bee Gees wrote the whole soundtrack and they did it in just a couple of days! The music drips out of their souls!! It’s sad there’s only one still alive😢 This is 1970s disco! When you’re checking out their catalog of songs make sure you don’t forget the songs they wrote for other people!! My favorite is Immortality by Celine Dion!

I was a pre-teen when this stuff really started to hit big, and I seem to recall that they were occasionally prompted to sing live in interviews because people didn't believe they could really sing that tight. They thought it was studio magic, and the three of them would just shrug and do a little impromptu a cappella for the camera. Sure enough -- tight as a drum.
They experienced a bit of a backlash after the 70s ended, but that's always the case for era-defining music. Journey and Nirvana went through the same thing. But good music is good music, and eventually everyone comes around to admitting what we all always knew: these guys' catalogue is banger after banger. Forget Bee Gees one day a week; you could do a whole channel just on stuff written by Barry Gibb.
And ... well yeah, women dug these guys with a shovel. I remember seeing lots of grown-up dudes walking around wearing heeled boots, tight pants, and rocking blowouts. I was a titch too young to connect at the time but watching now with adult eyes these three brothers were FAHN. :-)
I strongly suggest a number by them called "You Should Be Dancing" that is pretty much the beating heart of the disco era. Barry also had a few hits with -- no joke -- Barbra Streisand. Search on their names and you'll turn them up.

    3."More Than A Woman"
    4."To Love Somebody"
    5."Someone Belonging to Someone"

You are 100% right on having somebody challenge the Bee gees and their vocals. It's equivalent as saying challenge. Peter Gabriel who not only sings but does the drums. There is no comparison. The song to look up for Peter Gabriel is in the air tonight and it has to be the live version.

    Background info:
NY was going through riots, a murderer on the loose and troubled times. The song was written about all of that. They did not intend for it to be a dance song, but the beat just makes you want to.
Also, This song is the perfect beat for doing CPR on someone. They use this in teaching medical professionals how to do CPR on a patient. I don’t believe the Bee Gees intended for that to happen, but it did happen!

Crosby stills and Nash will challenge the Bee gees to harmonies any day anytime anywhere. They're pretty good when they add Neil Young into the mix too and become Crosby stills Nash and Young but I think the trio has the better of the harmonies in my opinion.
Same era same generation different vibe completely. The Bee gees are Disco, Crosby stills and Nash are more folk rock and easy listening rock and man they can kill a three-part harmony.
I recommend you start with Suite Judy Blue eyes. A musical suite in three parts. And the three-part Harmony hits you bang from the first note.

The film was Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta's big break.
Spooky that you want to set Saturday as their day of the week.

To me it would be home free is the group that would come the closest in harmonizing but it's just an opinion I'm sure many others might not agree. I did not say better but they would come close I think they are fantastic acapella group

If you heard this song in a movie that movie would have to have been Saturday Night Fever. It was a disco movie that was big in the seventies mid-to-late.
