That was absolutely amazing. I love doing flights in and out of Big Bear on VATSIM. The last I did was from L35 to Ramona KRNM. Ramona is on a kind of plateau surrounded by some nice green vegetation and hills which makes it quite beautiful as well. Seeing you fly in and out of L35 IRL is a treat. Thank you.
Got to fly in and out of Big Bear once and was beautiful! Flew up and skied for the day at Summit. Two of my favorite things on same day!! Have also watched Osprey aircraft fly in and out of Big Bear. They use to practice higher elevation operation. Fun to watch and hear!!
Only done that once but that's exactly how I did it. It can get windy up there so you want to go on a calm day. Big Bear and Catalina make for two really wonderful airports down here in SoCal.
Thanks for the scenic flight. Down drainage egress is always a major consideration in the mountains and high desert. This is especially important mid day in summer.
Thanks! Ya mechanical turbulence is always on the mind flying around mountains. But it usually doesn't become a problem until maybe 9kts+ reported on the ground at L35...something like that.
@@Bill4LE awesome good to know! I was out flying yesterday near Ramona /Julian and ground wind was 12-20 and as I got to the mountains yes it got bumpy. I’m still a new pilot so experiencing these things is all new for me. I cancelled my trip to Sedona today as well. Slowly trying to get the hang of conditions as best as possible. Thanks for the video it helped me a lot.
Big Bear Airport was recently released for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Just as stunning in the Sim as it is in this video. Unfortunately, us Simmers STILL don't have a 177 Cardinal to fly in the Sim yet.
I just flew over this airport on the way back from Napa Valley and told myself I want to go crush this thing and after watching this, I will be going shortly well done, sir
I haven't read the other comments, so I may have missed it.... Did you preform a high-altitude departure? I'm a novice pilot, but I think Big Bear calls for a runup while leaning the mixture for altitude.
❤ your flight video w 360 cam and live feed. Great scenic vistas and cool canyons.. I / we and my soaring buddies fly sailplanes just over the other side of mountains @Antelope Valley Soaring. Would love to take you and co-pilot for a glider flight up to the top of Mt. Baldy w/o a motor…!! (Yes.. 12k msl). Keep making your cool videos.
The Cardinal, with its cantilever wing and large windows is the perfect plane for sightseeing.
Ya it really is! Loving it!
You definitely don't want to lose an engine after departure! Gorgeous views!
No, you definitely do not!

Thanks, man! Thanks for watching :) RNM is beautiful too. The terrain around here is really fun
Nice video. Love to stop by the airport and have breakfast or lunch. Safe travels.
Thanks! Thanks for watching :)
That was rad, great views!
- "Aw... are you talking to me?" - "I'm talking to anybody!"
LOL, thanks Bill! :)
haha thanks! Thanks for watching....and listening!

Ya it's such a treat to have close access to such unique airports!
I've taken that flight many times. Very nice. Pretty airplane and co pilot.
Thanks, Alan! Thanks for watching :)

So,so awesome Bill
Thanks!!! Thanks for watching!
Flown in to go skiing many times.
Santa Ana winds can help make good ground speed
Recently flew to KAPV out of F70. Flew over Arrowhead Lake and saw Big Bear to the right. Stunning. Thx for sharing 😃🤙🏻
Awesome! Arrowhead is really pretty...thanks for watching!
I did the same in a piper Cherokee IRL as first big XC flight with my wife in August this year. Amazing experience indeed ❤
Nice video! Might go there tomorrow. Do you ever worry about winds departing or entering through that pass?
Thanks! Ya mechanical turbulence is always on the mind flying around mountains. But it usually doesn't become a problem until maybe 9kts+ reported on the ground at L35...something like that.

It sure does! Density altitude is always critical...it was cold so wasn't much of a factor...and I wasn't much more than 750 agl
Great video. I always learn something from Bill. He is such a professional pilot. Thanks, Bill.
haha Thanks, dad
'Looks gorgeous up there
It is! Thanks for watching :)
Spectacular
Thanks!
