How to replace the LED light in a Bosch fridge (+ Neff, Siemens)

- Replacing a faulty LED light in a Bosch fridge-freezer looks baffling, but is in fact pretty straightforward and here's how to do it. An extra tip from the comments is to slide the unit to the left first. This should make it easier to pop out of the clips. PS. If this helped save you money by not needing to get an expensive engineer, why not show your appreciation using the 'Super Thanks' option.
(Our model is a KGE49BW41G, but a similar method may also be used in other Bosch models as well as some Neff, Siemens and Blaupunkt fridges.)
Helped fix mom’s fridge while visiting for the holidays in under 3 minutes. Many thanks!!
Thank you so much! Really glad it was helpful - and saved you the expense of getting someone out.
I'm glad I came across this video! I was already planning to use a screwdriver or knife, but I was indeed worried about scratches in my refrigerator! I'm glad I postponed it for a while and went on UA-cam to see if anyone had come up with a simpler way, and yes! absolutely great! I'll get started right away tomorrow, thanks and greetings from Amsterdam
Excellent. Good luck - and a very merry Amsterdam Christmas!
Thanks! Worked for my 5 year old (and out of warranty ) Siemens fridge. Couldnt get the part on Siemens web site but ebay to the rescue. Now I know why I kept all those cards in the Man-drawer. For the final tweak I used one of those silicon spatulas from the kitchen . I am now in the good books of wife and daughters . For now.
Thank you so much! Really glad it helped.
Very helpful video. I wasn't sure I could pull that thing out but your video showed exactly what to do and what to expect. Thank you so much.
Great. It is a bit baffling when you first take a look, and always a worry that you’ll break something during the replacement. Taking it slowly is almost always the best policy.
Hi from the Netherlands, my 2 brothers and i fixed the led light because our mom was complaining about it. We shook hands when we fixed it but wanted to thank you aswell. Great video 🥰
Excellent! Glad to have been part of the team.
If anyone wants to replace only LED element on the board, then you need an SMD LED 3030 3V and 150 mA. (Measured on the original working LED)
Good to know. Although the plastic casing on ours was looking pretty tired too.
Useful info, but just a heads-up - the light assembly in our fridge looks identical but has a 350mA 1.2 watt LED according to the spec sheet on the Bosch customer service website, so it's probably worth checking the spec for your fridge model.
Good to know. Is there an easy easy to check?
First of all I want to thank to Author of Pater Practicus channel for plastic cards lifehack)
FYI: my Bosch kgn49xw306, also has the same smd 3V LED with part number (3218/9001030205), but real voltage which comes from fridge (measured by multimeter) is 12.1 volts, so I suppose even regular 12v smd will work properly. We could fix it in any repair service like mobile phone or tv servise, no need to ask original Bosch service. That's what I did and it's working)
Hopefully thanks I'm requesting led part only from Bosch tomorrow, declining their expensive parts and labour quote from 106 pounds.
Thanks you! Fixed my grandmas fridge lights with your guide, all works good now
That's great news. No one likes a gloomy fridge!
Awesome. I have just replaced mine today. The video is of great help. Thank you so much.
Glad it helped
Thanks for this, just changed mine successfully following your video.
You're welcome!
Thank you for your ingenuity. Indeed, this is the only way to avoid damage to the fridge structure (and to avoid a call to Bosch assistance, which would make for a pretty expensive lamp replacement). Luckily, I had a few expired plastic cards of various nature, credit-card size, that I had not thrown away. Guess I'll be keeping them for this and similar occurrences 😁
Great. Glad you found it useful. One of the other comments mentioned pushing the unit to the left first, which apparently does make it easier to get out, but I still think you need to 'pop' the plastic tabs, and the card approach does indeed avoid damage.
@@paterpracticus Like you, I don't believe you can push/slide the unit anywhere until you "pop" the plastic tabs. Once they start coming off, you can exercise a push to the left while pulling down. Thanks again!
@@GiorgioVVVVYou need to move it to the right to get into the connector while popped in, so clearly you can also move it to the left to get out of the connector while popped in. Went pretty easy on my fridge. Tips to popping it out in this video was very helpful, also this video showed the need to slide it to the left first, which helped a lot.
@@TheKrietjur There's no way you can slide it either way without first applying the trick shown in the video. Until you do that, it's very much locked in.
@@GiorgioVVVV Well, worked perfectly for me. Clips only hold it up, no lock sideways. In the video also shows puting it together Popping in and then sliding to the right. You can easily slide it back again.
I have Bosch fridge model number KGN56VW30N/16 and this video works like a charm. Thank you :)
Excellent! Glad it was helpful.
Дай Боже здоровья твоим рукам ❤
Glad you found it useful.
Thanks so much great n so clear! Merry Christmas practical Dad!
Thank you. Glad to have helped.
Thanks, just replaced ours without needing to call someone out. Would have struggled without your useful tips! Have a great Xmas!
Excellent. Glad to be of assistance.
Oh side note: You need to shift the LED housing (acrylic) to the left first to dis-engage it from the connector in the fridge. Then proceed with yanking your creditcards between it ;-)
Indeed, I've found this out from other comments. As you can see, it does work without, but definitely better if you do.
If you dont have so much costumer or credit cards take wood wedges is also very good Thanks for your idea!
Indeed, wooden (or plastic) wedges would work. The good thing about the cards is you can build the thickness up without having to push further into the lighting unit, which isn't very wide. You could also use thickish cardboard.
quoted £110 +parts to fit with parts being £10 . told need an engineer . so nice saving
So glad to have been of assistance. My method is rather over-cautious, and I suspect the ‘engineer’ probably deftly snaps it out in a jiffy, so £110 is quite steep for a 5 minute job. I like Bosch as a brand, but it is frustrating that a simple lightbulb isn’t something designed for the user to replace themselves.
Thank you! That helped a lot!
Great. Happy to be of assistance.
Thanks!❤
Glad it was helpful.
Fantastic just got it
It had me baffled
Cheers
Excellent. Removal is all a bit baffling and easy to worry that you're going to break something.
Worked.THANK YOU!
Smashing! Happy to have helped.
SUPER !!! Merci !!!! a fost foarte util
Excellent. Je suis contente de l'apprendre.
Nice video! But i have just tested the LED and it works with a multimeter. So i suppose is the door light switch that does not work, how can i find it in this Bosch model? It is hidden somewhere
First of all, check the LED unit is pushed all the way into the socket on the right of the mount and making good contact. I'm not even sure there is a physical switch for the door closure. I've never found one.
hey you don't need pop up to take the old one out. you made new one slide right, so i can take it off slide it to the lest and the light unit dropped my hands. thanks for the video. just try sliding the unit lest and its going to drop easily actually you are not going to need to pull it.
Thanks for the extra tip!
I've added a bit to the video description to say that makes it easier to remove. Thanks again.
Good video
Glad you enjoyed
UN GRAND MERCI !
De rien!
Ty Bro!
What is this particular light called? How do you find it online? Having a hard time finding it.
Search ‘Bosch LED fridge light’ on Amazon or eBay. They seem to be fairly standard on various models. They tend to be more expensive on Amazon, and I’m not sure how genuine they are. The cheapest I’ve found is here: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164915752748?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=nLrjacJrQQO&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=NDsD44a_Ts2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Do you know how to change the NTC temperature sensor in this fridge?
Sorry, I don't. I suspect that is a job for the professionals, but let me know if you find out.
СпасиБо 🙏
No problem!
mijn led is kapot en wil een nieuwe ledlicht kopen maar weet niet waar
Hi. I got mine from a reputable ebay seller. Check it is the real Bosch spare part.
Süper
Thank you. Glad it helped.
Where would we get the light?
I got mine from eBay - search ‘Bosch fridge LED’ - but you can also get them from Amazon or direct from Bosch - although expect to pay a bit more.
op jouw filpje is de ledlicht preccies hetzelfde als op mijn appparaat siemens ,dan neem ikaan dat het wel past
I believe so.
because it makes me ice !!???
👌🙏🙏
Glad it was useful!
First you should slide the light to the left and then light removing is much easier
Good tip. I kinda worked that out after making the guide. I know it helps slide the contacts of the LED strip out of the internal socket, but don’t know if it makes much difference in unclipping it.
@@paterpracticus after sliding you got a bit more space from the left side to put the cards or knife in
to left. and lamp off
Благодарю Мужик!!! Реально помог и выручил! Долгих лет тебе жизни.
Glad it was helpful.
Пару дней назад тоже столкнулся с такой проблемой, но прогуглив заменил родной светодиод на ленту светодиодную 12v. 4 секции отрезал, припаял. все работает ))
Thanks 🤗👌
You're welcome!
@@paterpracticus total price of repair €9.90 🤗 professional €180 👌
Superb! Everyone likes saving that kind of money. I'm slightly surprised Bosch don't make this a user replaceable part like in their ovens etc.
