i could not agree more. i have played Final fantasy since 7. and although the series is not what it used to be (and its way too tech-y for my liking) this is still a decent RPG not a great FF game but thats not the point, it is still a Big title game and as far as RPG's go it is impressive

TwilightPrince64 I might even stretch it out and say that the trilogy as a whole works well within itself (even though FFXIII would have been fine as standalone too). And considering this was Masashi Hamazo's first time as main composer of an FF title (before this he was Uematsu's assistant in Squaresoft/Enix), he did an admirable job at a new kind of music feel.
Actually,this may be what old fans hate the most. The FFXIII games are their own thing.They were designed as such fromthe start,with Square creating a whole project, the "Fabula Nova Chrystallis",with it'sown backstory and mythology BECAUSE they wanted the games under the project to be different from the old FF games.

This track is absolutely stunning. This game was a work of art and is so beautiful. I used to play this track every morning and it would open my eyes and get ready for the day completely closing any sad or depressing feelings I had ready to show the world nothing can get me down!

come on FFX was The SAme as 13 , Walk on a Straight Path until you Defeat the Religious Leader the First Time ( Seymour/Barthandelus ) , Next , get to an Open Area , with Optional stuff ( Capture Monsters/ Do Missions ) later on you get to a mountain , in FFX you WAlk over it , in 13 you walk Through it , to get to the Ruins of a City ( Zanarkand / Oerba)

i dont understand the hate about the linearity , ffx wasnt much different and in ffx there werent even missions you could do without complete the game ,you could only catch the monsters from 4 areas and get one optional aeon
The thing with X though, is that you had the option of going to the vast majority of places that you could before (and even more!) whereas in FFXIII, you couldn't. You were limited in where you could go.

I've played VII, X, and a lot of FF games, and I still love XIII saga...
Im a fanboy of all the FF game and the XIII's OSTs were my favorite by far. Of course all the games have their owm amazing song but overall, these OSTs of Trilogy?, had the most impressive compositions in every aspect. The themes, melodies, harmonies, progressions, technicality, etc) for the song writing and the Engineering with the Mixing and Mastering as well. Its insane when listening to it with a 5.1 surround system (even if its mixed for stereo), or a nice pair of IEMs or Headphones. The Soundstage is just unreal. All the production value and talent is more rare than people think. Its jam packed with not just orchestral music but a hybrid of many genres creating a very original audio esthetic. I can go into autistic detail about the OSTs but as a whole,

I really don't get why everyone is hating on FF13 and 13-2. They're still FF either way. I've played 5 different FF games and only two of them actually made me emotional. Those two were FF10 and 13, the unexpected events were big shocks. I felt like the battles were awesome and if you're ever in Ooerba long enough you'll figure out how much time went into 13. At one point I could see the light reflect off the screen so amazingly that it shocked me. So much time and effort went into these games, don't hate just because you don't like them. They're actually amazing games once you let yourself be taken in by the story and not just focusing on the negatives in everything.

I'm glad I never got caught up in that shitstorm cause I tried the game for myself last month or so. Raked in 120 hours with 100% achievements. That's saying a lot for someone like me who prefers multiplayer games. I really enjoyed the gameplay and music, so the game was pretty fun for me. I would say it's easily an 8/10 for me, and that's counting all the technical issues I had because the PC port is so bad.
I haven't been this obsessed with a single player game in a long time.

When this song played while I saw looking for Serah as Snow in the flashback, I never realized how much I loved this game. It's atmosphere, the characters. Critics can keep their opinions to themselves, this game was something else for me. It was the experience that mattered.

As far as hallway simulators go FF-XIII is top notch, but as a game it is demonstrably piss poor. Opinion is fine and all, and you can feel however you want; if you enjoyed FF-XIII there's no animosity towards you, but FF-XIII is a lot like the Twilight series. Not thematically or structurally, but in the fact that it is demonstrably bad on every level regardless of opinion. Based only on fact, not opinion, it is poorly written and incompetently designed. There is no hatred or anger in what I just said, only fact. It is 5:51 pm at time of writing and FF-XIII is a bad work of fiction.

FF13-1 became in 2011 my favorite game of all time for many reasons:
The story (Second World War references to immerse the player in a fantasy environment with real facts (The Purge;The L'Cie mark;Execution disguised in exile...) - the development of the characters and stories that intertwine, they are all linked together - The love story between Snow and Serah (just beautiful) - The evolving relationship between characters)
The music: All of them !
The world of Cocoon and Gran Pulse, really detailled and beautiful with many different environments
The battle system, tactical and dynamic

Maybe it's just taste. I just feel like I had more fun in 13-2. I spent 20 hours doing side-games like slot-machines (which I enjoyed. Don't judge), poker (it's DLC, I know), breeding the ultimate chocobo monsters to use in battle, farming various items like the Indrajit (I enjoy farming items. I couldn't do that in 13-1 because I could just build the ultimate weapons and items instead of find them), fighting in the Arena and hunting various artefacts. Also, Sazh's story and Lightning's DLC extended my game by about 30 hours and I was just so immersed in those 2 side-stories.
I really like side-stories. I had more fun doing the Vile Peaks sidequest than I had doing the Palumpolum story arc. I'm weird that way. :P

I like the Piano version better and for those 13 haters out there. Guess what. I LOVE THE FUCK OUT OF 13. Can we stop comparing it to FF7 PLEASE! I would like to think that each FF is different in it own way. As a big fan of 7 and 10 I would place 13 next to them. People say "Its too techy for me" Um when has FF ever not be a technical type game. Hell you have to plan just about every boss you run across. Then there are those who say "I wish they would go back to Turn Based Combat". Each one of the 13 games gave us something a little different along with a piece of the story. Paradigm Shifting was so easy once mastered it was like breathing. Lightning Returns while similar gave us something different with the Schemas. While I kept thinking "Oh God here we go again with the FFX-2 wardrobe change" I have to admit they are fun and a lot of them were not pointless. The game was made to be fast pace but to the point that you cant complete everything. If you dont like that Square Enix is trying to do something new why play the games to begin with?
I've never even played one of these games, I've only seen a playthrough of FFXIII, but this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. My Grandmother passed away a couple months ago, and I listened to this song all day. Now, just the first 10 seconds can make me cry. To think that a song from a video game can evoke such emotion is amazing, and it proves how amazing this franchise is. I love this song so much, and I love you grandma Carmen.

Haters think that hating on this game will make some sort of difference, but no. It won't, and it's completely pointless. Nowadays people only hate on this game because it's cool to. It still won't change the fact that this was one of the best games to come out last generation according to Japan.

FF13 was awesome. it was a depart from norm, tired new things and had a great story.
it was muddied at times, but awesome none the less.
people's biggest complaint was the linear feel to it.
I think it reflected the character's struggles. they had little choice in what they could do. and, until they got to pulse, were driven in directions.
then, on pulse, they had to choose to go back into a linear path to proceed.
they could explore where they were for as long as they chose, but not really go anywhere. they had the ILLUSION of freedom while still being confined.
the music was great, too

***** I didn't like the story of XIII-2 because it got confusing but it's a really fun game to play. The battle system made some improvements to XIII's battle system, the areas you explore on Gran Pulse are some of the most interesting and open places in any FF game, the music is fantastic and Serah is a great protagonist.

the story, music,voice actors, and gameplay(while a bit linear) is really good, they they screwed it up with the script and how they portrayed the characters
it lacked deep emotional moments (not just sad moments) and the plot is not explained well at all, while being good. The characters while (alone) good, lacked more soul and it seemed like it was trying to hard. also it is extremely linear. overall, If there was a word to describe it, it would be pretentious probably. it seemed like a work still in progress almost done. other than that the mood,character design, story amd music is amazing

I either go by three theories to why they attack Orphan.
A. They believed they'd die if they ran and valued survival over saving everyone else.
B. They didn't actually know it was Orphan (cant remember if he mentioned he was Orphan) and assumed it was a another form of the Fal'cie they just beat up. Its not like they see the guys name when they target him like the player does.
C. They were so confused and delirious from being unCieth'd that they swung at the big scary thing barking at them.
the main problem many have with 13 is the fact its a Hallway with Cutscenes
however , in My Favorite Final Fantasy , its exactly the same , yet not so many hate it ( Final Fantasy 10)

under what circumstances is FFXIII trilogy considered not a real Final Fantasy? I don't get it? I've played 7, 8, 10, tactics, I, II, and III and I don't understand how this new concept/great storyline doesn't stack up. Looking for clarification not a preachy story please.

If you wanted this game to look or feel or sound like previous ff games, go play the old games instead. And if it was the same as previous games you would be hating as well. I love the XIII series.
I love it too , but the Grinding is annoying i have been Grinding for 30 Hours in the Taejin Tower and still i dont have a single ultimate weapon , or one of those Super Expensive weapons in the gilgamesh Store

the reason i didnt grind with adamantoises was because of my bad luck in the Game (killing Neochu with Death took me like 80 Tries ( with Vanilles best weapon on Tier 2 )

ff13 was my first ff-game and even I realized how bad it was (mainly story and characters, battles also got boring after a while). The sole reason I managed to finish it was because I wanted to know how it ended and I wanted to have finished at least one ff-game. Graphics were great, cutscenes were amazing. And lastly this soundtrack is awesome.
I like the characters and the story but the battles became incredibly mountainous after about 2 hours...

you sure you didn't just buy it because you jumped on the bandwagon like the rest of the casual gamers and followed the promo materail and games like this aren't really your thing at all?? you sound like a casual gamer because you only mention the bare obvious basics of what made this game 'crap' but you didn't analyse the base story...also if you've played any final fantasy before you'd know this is basically how all of them go in some respect...but either way if this is your first, you hardly have the base coverage of the series to give an indepth criticism of why this game wasn't that great.
well I certainly am a FF-noob which I stated in my comment. . But I'm not a casual gamer. I have played games in all kinds of genres. mmos, moba, singleplayerrpg, rts, card games, round-based games, shooters. I have read/seen enough fictional stories to be able to judge if a story is bad or not. Mind you, it's all just my own opinion and not sth I'm forcing onto others. It wasn't my intention to analyze ff13 which is exactly why I made such a broad statement about the basic criteria. I'm not sure what u mean by band wagon. I played ff13 at least 4 years after its release.
u should play ff13 lightning returns its a open world and u can dodge attacks and chose attacks not like where u take the hits and attack bk its my favorite ff game

I haven't played FFXIII-2 and is working on the first FFXIII (finally since I have it but never played it for 3 or 4 years!) to get to know the whole story. So technically, FFXIII Lightning Returns was my first FFXIII game that I actually played and boy do I seriously LOVE that game. It was awesome. I don't know why but i just LOVE it. It gives off a very good yet interesting vibe in it. So well done that I actually lost my sense of time during the day! lol
I also find Lightning Returns as an amazing, fun game to enjoy. The only thing I hate about it is how tedious the side quests can be, I just wish they went back to the lvl system or the crysatrium instead of getting all your stat bonuses from quests. The fact that you have a limited time to beat the game gives me mixed though. One thing that they added into the game I really love is that every schemata has its own ATP you can use. I'm also working on beating xiii and don't get why so many people hate it...

Today, I actually JUST bought the strategy guide to FFXIII: Lightning Returns. lol It is difficult and can be very confusing and frustrating with the Side Quests in Lightning Returns. In fact, I think that's actually one of the things I love most about the game, because I like to roam more freely almost like in real life only in a completely different world in a completely different lifetime (it seems). I actually got most fo those side quests done on my very first try in the game but not ALL of them though and some can be tricky at first. But the thing is, I was able to realize that it's mainly because the game actually allows you to roam more freely and actually do and complete those Side Quests AT YOUR OWN TIME AND/OR PACE (Depending on what quests you are doing since not all are like that...).
I also have the strategy guide to the first FFXIII as well and use it in case of difficulties of anything while playing the first FFXIII game.
And just right now I am reading the strategy guide to Lightning Returns. Trust me, the strategy guide is DEFINITELY worth buying if you are having that much trouble with Side Quests. Trust me. :)
***** I don't necessarily have a problem with the side quests, I just get sometimes find myself getting a little annoyed doing the side quests while I wait for the right time to be able to do the main quest. Also I only use strategy guides when I'm really desperate. I find that for me strategy guides take a little bit of fun out of the game for me, by revealing parts that id rather find out on my own. I'm not saying that strategy guides are bad, they're just not for me.

The Eidolon battles are easy. Just scan them and do what the thing says. The only ones that are remotely hard are Hecatonchire and Odin.
