are you currently living abroad? if so - what country are you living in? and if you're not and plan to move abroad in the future - where do you plan to move to?!
I’m looking at places in the Caribbean (where my family is from) or South America... digital nomad life gives me lots of flexibility. As long as I have strong internet, I can live anywhere.
If moving abroad couldn’t be more difficult 🤦🏽♀️ Great video, I’m an American living in France and I know this video can be so beneficial to other expats.
Great information Tiff I was completely unaware that Americans living abroad are required to file taxes . I am in the process of moving to Paris very soon and never even thought to look into this topic so thank you for sharing this info with us.
Thank you so much for this! I'm a dual citizen and have been in USA since I was 18. I'm returning to my other passport country and I was so nervous about how to proceed as a tax paying American!!! You're a life saver
Note: Most if not all developed countries have a tax treaty with the US to prevent double taxation of Americans living abroad. Even if you make more than what you’re allowed to exclude, there’s a 90% chance you still won’t owe anything. Basically this is all just an annoying formality but none of my German friends got a stimmy so……
I want to move to Italy. My bf is Italian and I thought I was one step closer to my dream...but he wants to move to Perth, Australia!! We’ll travel more abroad together before we’d decide where to go.
For once, advantage FRANCE despite our complex administration: 1 - a Frenchman who lives in the USA does not pay taxes in France but in the USA, no complication. 2 - our declaration is pre-established, you just have to check it and correct it if necessary, the tax is deducted at source.
Must file taxes - or else what? Bite me. Most Americans abroad don't owe US taxes - Except those that do, and US taxes can be vicious. Exclude $100,000 of foreign sourced income - Nope, EARNED income. Any income or gains not earned are not covered by the FEIE, see French unemployment payments as just one example. Some additional forms - At the FATCA enquiries in 2017 it was shown that a US couple moving to Australia were hit with 226.9 hours of penalty laden for filing that almost certainly needs a specialised CPA at circa $500 an hour. FBAR - A warrantless search of private bank accounts under threat of financial devastation for failure to comply, with the reporting requirements being more complex than most people realise leaving people facing potential ruin. Amnesty programs - As if people are doing something wrong by not reporting to a nation their mother came from. While outrage over the bait-and-switch tactics of the IRS that lead to many people getting ruioned have meant that the IRS have softened their approach a little, going for one of these programs out of unjustified fear can see people in a world of hurt that they never needed to get into in the first place. Benefits - Oh sure, you might have got stimulus checks and child tax credits, but for crying out loud, please make it clear just how dangerous and unjust this system is. The problem with US "expats" who still worry about things like US social security and making sure they get their vote in for when they return home is they have little idea of what the US tax system does to those who actually LIVE locally/ Those who live locally with very little connection to the USA other than a citizenship they may not even want should steer well clear of having anything to do with the unjust and flat out dangerous US tax system that is designed to punish foreign lives.
talk about frances racism problem and the hijab-ban, how muslims are being opressed in france, how black people face discrimination everyday. use your platform for something good.
you do realize you can talk about that too? use YOUR platform for good. she has discussed racism. also, have you ever thought about the fact that talking about racism can be triggering? don't tell people what they should and shouldn't discuss on their channel.

Non, vivant toujours aux États-Unis, au Texas. La France est pourtant là où je veux être, un jour.

Bonjour Tiffanie😀
I created a DBA in NY for a pen name. When I move abroad would I still need to file state taxes? Would MyExpatTaxes be familiar with this question?
I have a feeling this is very expensive. Lol
