Garrett Watts hahahaha. I was just as surprised. It took me a second to hear it too. It was a magical evening not gonna lie. However... at least youve got the video!
This is coming from a Harmonimix J Blake ride or die fan: this is not his bread and butter. These ballads simply don't fit his voice, and his piano playing is honestly a bit muddle for this kind of sit down solo concert. I was upset that his new direction was so focused on these style of ballad piano songs. Just a fan expressing an opinion, after all what is art without critique or interpretation? Still like his piano playing in this.
Dip Jonrd hey man I couldnt agree more. I was so down with all of those earlier EPs and his initial self-titled LP, however this side of him is pretty stunning too. Really nice to be able to witness such a multi-faceted artist such as JB.
Kyle McMorrow I feel that. I honestly thought the "ONCE WE ALL AGREE" LP was the right direction for him. It was ballad-like, slow building, and still incorporated his aptitude for electronic sounds stuff. That album is so freaking underrated. But yes I mean I appreciate this stuff, just my two cents. Thanks for yours!
i hear ya, there's a world of difference between this and the 200 press EP as well for example, but like many said it's incredible how various his repertoire is
Hery agreed. I just wish if he went this direction he would really clean up those chords and let them ring out a bit. Like two of my faves are "Measurements" and "Why don't you call me" which are twists on gospel style hymns and the chords he uses are really diverse, dissonant, and most importantly CLEARLY stated. I want him to let his chord structures be more clear Bc that is where his harmonies come through like the baller he is.

After watching this, I think he should release a live album of these live piano sets. Hopefully he does in the future.
