JEREZ, ZACATECAS

The Villa de Xerez was founded at the end of 1569, according to various documents in his possession by the historian Luis Miguel Berumen Félix that come from the archives of the Royal Academy of History of Spain, also in the archives of Guadalajara there are documentary records about from January 20 and February 22. In 1570, a group of Spaniards led by Captain Pedro Carrillo Dávila, Martín Moreno, Cristóbal Caldera and others. They formed a settlement with the name of Jerez de la Frontera in order to defend the road from Guadalajara to Zacatecas, against the attacks of the indigenous people to supply and protect the mines of Zacatecas. Without any historical foundation, only based on oral tradition, it was said that the first Mass was celebrated on Sunday, January 23, 1536, which is uncertain. The valley where the town was located was populated by Spaniards since the middle of the 16th century, but the town itself was founded in 1569 and settled permanently in 1572.
Captain Pedro Carrillo Dávila received his compensation for the conquest by receiving a large amount of land or large cattle sites. A new cultural model begins through religion, where the missionaries took on the task of evangelizing, a task that lasted until the end of the 16th century. A chapel is built and the construction of colonial buildings such as the main square, the large garden, the town hall begins, during these years the inhabitants of the Villa experienced a great boom.

Muy bonito ver todas esa fotos deJerez, de donde salí siendo un chamaco y ahora soy octogenario, y tengo que conformarme con ver los videos que publican de los usos, costumbres y fiestas de esa hermosa ciudad; aunque siento que faltaron fotos de algunos lugares, como el panteón de Dolores, la sierra de Cardos. una mejor del teatro Hinojosa, etc.
