Quick easy tip. Lift the whole rear end so your not struggling with the new struts, they'll slap in there easily.

Thanks for your advice, I never changed shocks before. I need to also change my oil pan gaskets.
If you have never changed at least shocks before don't attempt the oil pan Ha u will have oil everywhere if it doesn't leak when you put it back. ?? why would you pull the pan ??

What I needed to know was How to remove the Driver side Rear Shock on a SWB truck. The top mount is right next to the Gas tank. But a Good video none the less.
Thanks for video I have to replace my rear shocks but will wait till summer only difference is I'll soak in w d 40 or some. Penatrate for a few days first then I have some air. Ratchets to help take bolts off top one may have to do like you did
I've also observed your front struts job as well along with the rear shocks in this video. We all appreciate it's a cut & dry demontrations. 3 things I would add: use brake cleaner to clean the threads, use of thread locker, torque to factory specifications.

@@Dave-tw9ib on one of my ford lightning video with quick slide show clips. It has the 2 gen f150 L shocks torque specification.
You were lucky to have nuts that fit the studs. When I tried to thread the new nuts to both my new Monrow rear shocks, the nuts would seize on the threads and try to strip. Luckily I had a die to chase the threads and the nuts would then thread on easily down the studs.

I watched a different video with a quick tip. After you remove the bottom bolt, grab the shock and move it back and forth. It will snap right at the bolt location, easy.

Thanks for the great video. Getting ready to do shocks all the way around on my 2003 F150 so this will help a lot. Quick question though. Could you use the twist method when putting the new shock in to get it threaded the bulk of the way on that top nut then bolt the bottom last? Then go back and tighten everything up?
Yeah I suppose you could use the twist method to put in the new shocks, and then go back and tighten everything up. I dont see why that would not work. What ever you gotta do to get it in, I guess. Well thanks for the comment and thanks for watching. Have a good day.
Guess you don't live in Michigan judging by the simplicity of how easy you loosened bolts on your Ford and how little rust their actually is/was. Nice video, just remember to always show them the right way to replace bolts by leading them to a hardware store bro, enlightenment for the students is the final stage as a teacher is it not??? Something tells me you had those nuts already loose when you started this video. Because I have never seen a shock nut come loose that easy ever. lol

If you nick the tube with a grinder which he was 1/2 inch away from, the spark ignites the gas and hydraulic fluid and fires an 8ft, military grade flame . Wouldn’t want to be under it. I know bc I did it last week on my front which was rusted solid to the bushing.
Seems straight forward - would 1998 F150 be same approach? I notice you didn't have truck on jacks - is that safe?

I have never done a 1998 F150 before, but I imagine it is similar. Anytime you get under a vehicle, you take a risk, and you may not always be 100% safe. Even with the right equipment, things can and do fail. Anyway the shocks (on this vehicle) do not hold up the weight of the vehicle, so they are not a structural component. They are designed to dampen any type of bump or jolt you might encounter while driving. So for this type you should be able to remove the shocks without jacking up the vehicle as long as you can get to them. Now dont confuse a shock with a strut which is a structural component and does hold up the weight of the vehicle. I hope that makes sense. Also there may or may not be certain suspensions that have shocks that may be structural, so just have to know what you are working on. For example, certain shocks could be an air ride shock that could lift and change ride height and what not. In this video the tires, leaf spring, and axle are what is taking the weight of the vehicle, and the rear shocks are only to dampen. Well I hope this info helps you out. You can on the rear. That is how I do it. Loosely mount it to the upper stud. Then push the lower shock up into place and push the bolt through. Now put the nut on and tighten everything up. It's not to difficult.

Shocks should be somewhat difficult to push in and they should come back pretty quickly. Shocks that are worn are very easy to compress and they do not come back quickly. Well I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for watching and thanks for the comment. Have a good day.

i like Ford but not this top nut design. that could easily been the same as the bottom, why 18 Metric on bottom and Standard 9/16 on top?

Its not that ur in a bad spot, its because its a ford. Try changing the spark plugs, ull have to pull the fuel rails off. What wer they thinking during design of them fords.
@ jptrustno,,,, I didn’t have to remove my fuel rail to get my plugs out. Although I will say it was easier to change my plugs on my GMC Sierra it took about 15 mins to change the plugs and wires on the gmc. On the ford it took about 30 mins. The back of the motor on my ford is a little farther into the fire wall which made the back ones a litt,e aggravating where as the gmc wasn’t in the firewall. It’s harder to work on my ford BUT I have to work on my gmc ALOT more. Don’t get me wrong ima Chevy guy. ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!!!
so, it is unnecessary to jack the vehicle to replace shocks (95 Ford F150)?

So long as you can get to them, and they are not a structural component. On my ford focus shock replacement I had to jack it up because I could not fit under the vehicle to get to the bolts I needed to take off, but on an f150 you can usually replace the rear shocks pretty easily. On my f150 front shock replacement I took the wheel off and jacked it up to replace the shocks. It depends on the design of the suspension. The shock design on my f150 are more for dampening, and not for structural purposes. The structure part (what holds up the vehicle) in most vehicles is the struts, coils, a arms, leaf springs, ball joints, wheels and tires mostly. Now some designs the shocks may lift up a vehicle and actually be part of the structural part (some air ride systems come to mind) So I guess the answer is sometimes yes and sometimes no. I have never worked on a 95 ford f150 so I am not real familiar with its design. If you are unsure look up the procedure for shock replacement for your year and model. One free source for good car info, is your local library (most have free chilton pro, mitchell, or all data) Lots of libraries you can access info online from home with a library card. I use my library card to get car info all the time. I also use autozone.com you can create an account and get info. Well I hope this info helps you out. Thanks for your comments and have a good day.

I have an 2020 f 1150 they r shit plastic covers on the top of my rear shocks, I'm placing some cosmetic covers over them not bad plastic for a $ 60 k truck I had a couple of F 150z quit putting shit parts on the trucks grr Watched a full video on the 2020 lighting mm I don't know nice truck though probably $ 100K way too many outlets I will never use, I'm trading my 2020 in for a 2023 wonder what they will have out mm I put 8k on my truck a year should get a good buck for it. I live at the Canadian border Sarnia/port Huron they r buying your truck back for almost what you paid. has to be used they then sell them to the states and make 40% on the dollar. they don't keep them long here, I should do that on my own private sale. Just shooting the shit
