The reason why Surf freestyle hit the hardest because it was so relatable if you ever lived that life. Even if you didn't he painted a picture so well in that freestyle you have a better understanding of that lifestyle.
I always said that freestyle should've been a record, still I dropped that on a mp3 the day it went out & it been on numerous of my playlists ever since, I only wish I had a sharper version like straight from DAT or some shyt. Yall caught a moment in time with that one because no matter what a nigga can't always get into that space if the universe don't line certain things up a certain way and that's just fax, even when you just come home you mellow after a few months and start putting shyt back together and that effects shyt across the board. I been watching the different battle rap platforms on UA-cam for a minute now, so I already was well aware of who Surf way before his infamous bars on I-95 freestyle performance. That being said though, I can't lie when I say that before hearing his epic freestyle and just judging off all the various battles of Surf's that I'd heard to that point, I honestly never once found myself sitting back in awe of anything Surf had ever spit in his battles. It's not that I'm super hard to impress either because there's been plenty of other battle rappers and classic battle rap moments where I was very impressed by the skills I was hearing... But yea, just being honest I never once heard Surf in a battle and was like completely wowed by his skills or bars. Then all of a sudden Surf drops the epic freestyle which is so sick and so timeless that literally anyone who hears it can't do anything but acknowledge how sick it is... So that's what's got me so confused to this day man if Surf possesses the skill and pen game showcased in that freestyle, then where has that level of Tsu Surf been in all his battles up to this point? The sh*t Surf spits in his battles should be amazing based off the skill he showed in that freestyle, but his battle rap bars for some reason don't ever seem to reach that same level as that freestyle and I don't get why? How can dude be capable of such sick bars in a freestyle for a UA-cam channel, yet not carry over and bring that same level of heat to his battle bars?
