At the word "know" at 0:40 - hold that note out longer and create that dissonance. Maybe leave it unresolved. That's a beautiful part on the song and you just effortlessly hit it... sustain that shit until it's unbearable for the listener. Tug those heartstrings until they rip off.
Good point! I am not musical but I do think that is what i missing from her music, she resolves the notes on every line,

AngelicCutie365 To be honest, I'm more of a self-taught, nontechnical, guy. The best way I can describe it is that major chords are 1-3-5... basically. That's piano... like c-e-g. Dissonance is when you almost have a major chord except for one note is off by a step. If you hit g-c-e, then notes g-c-d, and then switch to g-b-d, you'll hear the dissonance and then resolution.
Typically, a-c-e, and then f-a-c would follow. I think I got all that correct. I'm trying to remember since I don't have a piano in front of me.
My comment was just a suggestion that her vocals don't need to resolve in the same typical chord progression of the instrumental. This elicits a sense of loss in the audience. It helps to always remember, the purpose of music is to elicit an emotional response in the audience. As long as you maintain this aim, you can't go wrong. A lot of times, skilled musicians become too focused on technical correctness in the presentation of their vocals and instrumentation. They narrow their focus on the craft of producing music, and forget about the broad ideals of the fundamental point of music as a whole.
