  • The first area I visited, as seen on the map, ends in part 1. It fades to black and the second area of footage begins, and continues in the next video. Most of my experience visiting this park was one of quiet calm. No wind, no human noise, just the sound of birds and a plane in the sky. Most people were at the main parking lot just after the bridge and were easily avoided. Entrance is free. Fishing is allowed. Pets must be leashed. And nature thrives!
Mansfield Hollow State Park basically traces back to an Army Corp of Engineers project built between 1949 and 1952. As explained by the Outdoor Project website, "the project was designed to substantially reduce flooding along the Quinebaug, Shetucket, and Thames rivers. The result is a recreational water body and a reservoir for local towns." And thus, Mansfield Hollow Dam, and Lake, were born. "Swimming is not allowed, but sailboats, canoes, and small powerboats are all welcomed on the lake."
