This is cool from an After Effects perspective, but this is mind blowing from a AI assistant perspective. This is the first time I've seen someone model how effective using an AI assistant can be, from iterating on an idea, to actually helping us learn specific concepts. It feels like a glimpse into the future. Wild.
Jake, this is excellent. It’s really good that you persevered and achieved these results. Please do more of these AI style videos, I really think we need to get ahead of the game now!
First time somebody made me feel excited about Ai. This is like the birth of JARVIS. Really loved how jake uses it. Thanks a lot man. For sharing the learnings ❤🙏💐
Oh my god one of my favorite memories from your old skillshare videos is you being like "idk why there's no function to re-sequence layers in AE, but here we are." and now years later AI is writing that code for you. We love to see that glow up
I recently used python to create a folder management system and file renaming stystem using chatgpt. And Trust me I don't know how to code, there were a lot of errors but chatgpt solved them and now the code works. I am definitely going to try creating scripts for after effects.👍 Thanks for this video ♥️
Jake, your communication skills are getting so dang good. I feel like you answered all the questions I was asking as watching. Very thorough and thoughtful examination. Thank you for your work!
I went through this exact same process with macros scripts in google sheets a couple of days ago and found all the same challenges and workarounds in terms of starting new chats when it seemed to be an endless repeat of errors etc. I’m definitely going to see if I can add an undo group to my macro scripts too though. This is a super useful tip I totally hadn’t thought about! Great video. Thanks!
I used chatGPT to modify an indesign plugin to have extra functionality that it didn't have off-the-shelf. Now the plugin works better with my server setup.
Thanks for the video! I downloaded the Sequence Layer Script and modified it using GPT so it can accept negative number so the layers get sequenced backwards!!!! This is amazing.
You're amazing Jake!! I can't wait to try all of this out. I really appreciate you including all the of the errors. It's a good reminder about how much trial and error there is but how all of it adds up to learning! Now to figure out.... What do I want to make?!?!?!
A few weeks ago I used Chat GPT to write a script that evenly and randomly distribute big amount of small circle shapes inside of the bounding box of the other large shape or layer. Using this script to set up a scenes for the liquid simulations in Newton3
This is great! I actually asked ChatGPT to explain to me some expressions that I found in the School of motion website, and while the explanation was great, asking it to develop some expression was a fail lol, none of them worked
I frequently make animations in dual language (English and Te Reo Maori). Being a native english speaker I do the english first. Te Reo is usually about 30% longer, so I often have to extend a hundred layers to the end of a new timeline. When ChatGPT first came out, it amazed me when I asked it if it could write an AE script and it said yes, so I asked it to write a script to extend every layer to the end of the new timeline. My first ChatGPT script did this without errors, but didn't work on pre-comps, so with a single amendment (hey chat GPT, can you make this work with pre-comps and video files?), the script also adds time-remapping and moves the keyframe to the end. worked the first time! Getting this script working took me less than an hour. To hand code it would have taken me a week! Game-changer indeed.
I really need to say, this is amazing. I'm a designer who btw knows how to code in JS so with the gpt jump start I create a lot of easy automatizations for my workflow in AE. Tks so much for this video!
Awesome content, im getting an error tho in klutz: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. How do i charge my Open AI account? Help please
I'm loving this so much. I don't use klutz GPT (as I didn't get the API key to work) but I've been creating little scriptlets with chat-gpt for a couple weeks now almost on a daily basis. This combines so well with kbar it's insane. The tips you gave are top notch and I can't stress the "start over" point enough. I'd even go as far as saying you should ask for the same thing 5 times before continuing with the best version (unless it already works of course). I can see the excitement in your eyes and the hype is justified. This tool is a game changer! I personally use the "expressionist" code editor in after effects, pretty handy too!
Thank you! Very helpful Recently I wanted to convert one of my animations to json, which has a character in it. I was trying to write a script using chatGPT. I asked to write a script to convert my illustrator file to vector and delete unused paths without deform shape and colour, as json files have some limitations like it won't work with merge path etc.😅 I tried for a couple of hours and finally gave up. I knew it's complicated and i don't know how scripts work but it was fun.
It was a great video, I know about the ChatGpt writing after effects scripts and I tried it little, but showing the detailed and elaborated version was really good. Will share when I will create some scripts. Keep up the good work 👍.
Wow, what a great look into the process of this without having the headache myself 😄Thanks so much for sharing this! I've been through so many different scripts for sequencing layers (particularly for text), so I'm really looking forward to trying this one out. Cheers, Jake!
Thanks for this amazing tutorial. I've been wanting to use ChatGPT to write scripts and create UI panels but wasn't sure how to approach it. You broke it down really well and added some great tips. I'm definitely going to try this out.
Ohh, when i put the API, and try to say something, the chat send me this Error: Request failed with status code 429 You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.
Really nice one. I'd recommend, to centre your shapes anchors and to centre to the comp, use CMD + Option + Home (fn+left arrow key) and CMD + Home (fn+left arrow key).
right away got to downloading this and while i'm hopeful for the future when it can run on GPT4... right now it is better at generating errors then actually creating usable scripts in my hour or so of trying. At least to such an extend that, unless i'm doing somethign very repetitive on a daily or at least weekly bases, it's faster to just do it myyself than to try to steer chatGPT into doing what I need it to do, and doing it by hand is also less frustrating. great development in tech, but it's not there yet
Ohh man this is so good!! I've been using it to write expressions and/or explain what certain expression are doing. Outside of useful UA-cam videos from you and some others It's been a huge learning tool. I'm now more interested in expressions and they don't seem so daunting anymore. But to have this all inside of AE is incredible!!
This is insane. Working for a e-Commerce brand and I do a lot of text animations on video in different languages. Bet I can do some cool stuff with the AI that saves a ton of time including automatic translations, font size changes regarding the length differences in different languages, duplicating comps and rename them automatically.. Excited do take a deep dive to this and thank you so much for the inspiration and tool tips!
PT Shift Layers is a great way to sequence layers very easily... Skew works too. However, it's obvious that you can create these things for free basically on your own with Chat GPT. Amazing!
Sequence Layers Better.jsx is not working in AE 24.1.0. The other two scripts throw up this error - 'Unable to execute script at line ###. undefined is not an object'. I have tried to create my own scripts and I get the same message, has something changed since this video was published?
this is just the beginning. They are most likely working on a first party integration of gpt 4 in aftereffects. It could even be the 32k token version of gpt 4, so not only smarter and more accurate than the gpt 3.5 used in the video, but with a significant improvement in contextual memory. Watch Microsoft's copilot presentation to see how far and powerful first party integration of gpt 4 can be. Shit's WILD.
Ayoo this is just what I was thinking about! The moment I saw Chat GPT doing code I knew it could do scripts/expressions too, just didn't know how to start 😂 Thanks Jake!
I've been watching your videos for a while and if I've said this before, then let me say it again, you sir are mentor. You're an inspiration and I've learned so so much from you and I've been sharing your videos with my friends and colleagues. I don't know whether you believe in Jesus or not, but I pray that He blesses you and your channel and may you see nothing but success in every area of your life. Thank you, Jake, for the wonderful work you do.
I would like to have a script where I can type what font I want to change in the timeline but it would be for Adobe Premiere. For instance I run a channel where it's the same video but people request that I change the font. Instead of doing it in Photoshop I would like to just have a button so that it would change it for me on the timeline with multiple video clips.
I've been trying to use the new ChatGPT 4 version to create a script to write code that autofocuses the camera to a specific layer (The built-in function doesn't seem to take the camera orientation into account), and it just can't crack it. After many many prompts, I just gave up and went back to manually focusing. Maybe I just don't know how to use ChatGPT properly yet
thats amazing! especially getting the comments in the script that help you understand whats happening. I always struggle with copy+pasting scripts from forums and then tweak them. thank you for trying it out and sharing!
I had given it a shot, and though it was far from perfect, I was stunned nonetheless that it had any familiarity whatsoever with this very specific and niche implementation of JavaScript.
This is exactly what i needed, there were many times where i thought “these can be a script, but i don’t know how to do it”, it’s like a godsend, thank you!
This makes me very hopeful at what AI can become, not so much replace but to become this extraordinarily helpful tool to get things going. especially for beginners it might get some stuff wrong but who knows in the future how close it can be to getting it right the first time. It also makes me laugh a little bit at how features you can make with the ai should have been a feature the whole time or less time consuming
I'm trying to figure out how to write a script that generates a cube, both with a fill, and strokes, that can be controlled with a slider. Bonus points for making it rotate. Been trying to figure it out since yesterday. Not a coder, so this is absolutely maddening lol.
So awesome!! All this AI stuff has been intimidating but this video really helps ease my anxieties!! About how long did it take to nail down each of these 3 scripts?
Does it work with a free Chat GPT account? I installed Klutz GPT and used my API key it loaded up but when I typed something this same error message popped up "Error: Request failed with status code 429 You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details."
No, you have to pay for the usage of Chat GPT's API. The initial instructions Klutz GPT gives you explain everything. It's very affordable. I've used less than $1 so far.
I tried my hand at chat gpt with Vex language for houdini and it worked like it, I don't recommend to a very fresh to the program person, it can frustrate a lot, but if you know a bit and know a bit of scripting in whatever application you use it can be of some help.
What scripts do you want created by AI?
Great video! I wonder To have a script To use variable font inside after effect
That would probably have to be a new feature of after effects, but a tool called Variety just came out that lets you do that! supa.supply/variety
a 'get out of the way' (with editable bounce) script based on the comp boundaries, or better yet the combined alphas.
I tried to create script for Premiere, but I couldn't import it to Pr sadly :
@Noor Ul Mustafa That would have to be a plugin, and one already exists: aescripts.com/depth-scanner?aff=35
This is cool from an After Effects perspective, but this is mind blowing from a AI assistant perspective. This is the first time I've seen someone model how effective using an AI assistant can be, from iterating on an idea, to actually helping us learn specific concepts. This is incredible. Not just the ai capabilities but the fact that you went through all of this and shared the journey with us
Holy crap this is fantastic. I've been using AE for over a decade and it's rare to feel this excited to try something new in it!
Jake, this is excellent. It’s really good that you persevered and achieved these results. Please do more of these AI style videos, I really think we need to get ahead of the game now!
I can literally feel my entire life changing while watching this video, thank you for uploading this.

I really am amazed with the versatility of Chat-GPT. I used it to help make a working contact form for my website. A complete game changer.
I recently used python to create a folder management system and file renaming stystem using chatgpt.

You're amazing Dacia! And if it helps, Adam also told me the amount of errors I had were on par with regular tool dev 😂

Interested as well

What a proffessional start of the video. KING!

YOU are the wizard my friend…
First time I’ve seen your channel and my mind is blown. Need to try this
Awesome content, im getting an error tho in klutz: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. How do i charge my Open AI account? Help please
have the same problem
I love the thorough explanation of your thought process, and the self awareness behind the actions you were taking. A superb exposition as always.

aww hell, I'm sold. Great video Jake, and thanks for sharing the ups and downs of this process!
Thank you! Very helpful

What is this value!? Absolutely incredible showcase and presentation, man. I’m stoked to see what AI continues to make possible for us average Joes
This is an absolutely BRILLIANT walkthrough of this profoundly useful tech. Thanks so much Jake!!!
Just wow! 😮 Sir, you got my hyped to create my own plugin now!!! Amazing video, bring it more please!! 🎉
Ohh, when i put the API, and try to say something, the chat send me this Error:
Request failed with status code 429
You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.
Nice topic, I hope you will also talk about it in the future
Amazing! It would also be cool when you ask it to solve a problem if it told you - 'Hey Jonathan, you know there's already a plugin for that!'
Ok i have a script idea will make it now sheesh this is powerful
Really nice one. I'd recommend, to centre your shapes anchors and to centre to the comp, use CMD + Option + Home (fn+left arrow key) and CMD + Home (fn+left arrow key).
So cool. Thanks for sharing all of your insights and experience! Can’t wait to give this a try. 🤘
I get an error 429
How awesome. I love this channel. Always exploring and learning new things.

This is Insane Jake! Great Finding.

Just bought it :D Thanks for showing light on this awesome tool!
Lemme use it & comment on my experince :)

Great information. Jake, you come up with excellent content.
wow your presentation was good. your voice can be hear clearly, and the flow of the story is interesting, i learn too. so I sub
Thank you i wanted this video !
Kick ass! Purchased, thank you!

This is awesome!! Going to see if I can mimic something from Red Giant. Specifically the chromatic displacement effect.
When you’re thinking of which script for AE you wanna create you’re doing the type of work AI can’t do
I see you’ve not used our boy GPT much, you can just ask it what suggestions of scripts could be done in AE
Ayoo this is just what I was thinking about! The moment I saw Chat GPT doing code I knew it could do scripts/expressions too, just didn't know how to start 😂 Thanks Jake!
Now THAT is a useful video. Subscribed. This video alone worth the subscription.

how should i run in my pc
please make a tutorial for installation of klutz gpt
THis is a great video jake. Keep preaching the good word. GPT is amazing at teaching things.
I just wish you showed us what you wrote in the script prompt for it to work. Specifically the line prompt.
Fantastic Jake, thanks!
I had given it a shot, and though it was far from perfect, I was stunned nonetheless that it had any familiarity whatsoever with this very specific and niche implementation of JavaScript.
This is awesome, also I love that shirt!
This is exactly what i needed, there were many times where i thought “these can be a script, but i don’t know how to do it”, it’s like a godsend, thank you!

I really love your videos ! Thanks
Now let's make it work on premiere, like i ask some edits and the Ai does that for me 🎉
It will happen.
Well there already is the scene detection which adds edits for you 😉
The Remix tool will help you cut a tune down to fit your desired length automatically.
@@ViziaFilms lol
Would auto scene detection give you a similar result to “AutoPod” ?
Could you please share how you edit your voice for UA-cam? Which software and settings please.
Great video, thanks very much.
I've tried creating one here, but I received an error a few times, saying: Request failed with status code 400. Anybody knows a way around this?
I'm trying to figure out how to write a script that generates a cube, both with a fill, and strokes, that can be controlled with a slider. Bonus points for making it rotate. Been trying to figure it out since yesterday. Not a coder, so this is absolutely maddening lol.
Did you try it? Did it work?
You’re awesome. Thank you.
Rookie question- I purchased the three - now how do I apply them?
8:35 - Speaking of colours. Is there any way to make the interface from After Effects not black? I liked the white theme so much.
Your content is gold, thx
whew!!!! Salute Jake!
thank u for uploading this!
This is incredible!
So awesome!! All this AI stuff has been intimidating but this video really helps ease my anxieties!! About how long did it take to nail down each of these 3 scripts?
Just about a day and a half.
Absolutely amazing. I'll have to give this a go. I'm worried my Ae UI will be full of panels in no time 😂😂
I will never not love hearing that buttery smooth voice ;)
Does it work with a free Chat GPT account? I installed Klutz GPT and used my API key it loaded up but when I typed something this same error message popped up
"Error: Request failed with status code 429 You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details."
No, you have to pay for the usage of Chat GPT's API. The initial instructions Klutz GPT gives you explain everything. It's very affordable. I've used less than $1 so far.
i just got chatgpt to write all these scripts for vegas and i didn't even know that was a thing. holy moly.
amazing! Thank you!
🤯
I tried my hand at chat gpt with Vex language for houdini and it worked like it, I don't recommend to a very fresh to the program person, it can frustrate a lot, but if you know a bit and know a bit of scripting in whatever application you use it can be of some help.
Thank you for this useful and ethic use of AI ❤
How long do you think we have until the avg Joe and Jane can just ask for an animation and get it free and quickly without the need to hire a human?
Pretty badass🔥 I mean got a long way to go but helps end mundane time consuming work
Thanks Emonee! I agree, but Adam also told me that the amount of errors I ran into is on par with an actual developer 😆
