Mutsuhiro Watanabe's spirit being behind the Boiled One makes a lot of sense, and it's no surprise someone as vile as himself would return and continuously want to cause fear and pain and terror. He was an unhinged sadist in real life, he'd randomly physically attack and torture American POWs. Sometimes he'd burn letters/pictures of their loved ones or falsely tell them their loved ones are dead just to see their reactions. Sometimes he'd act friendly and kind and give them gifts only to put them on edge when he'd randomly turn violent and antagonistic again. He also died a coward as Zamperini forgave him, so it makes sense for him to come back as this evil entity. His spirit thrived on agony and fear and power.
@@IsaacHardy-js2pt Oh yeah true there's probably all types of bad things he did to people under his job position, so it makes sense. I love how the newer generations of analog horror are specifically dealing with forgiveness and empathy, like how The Man In The Suit shows how Japan actually has moved on from their nuclear trauma of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and now with The Boiled One Phenomenon where an actual real life soldier forgives their torturer from their past. 2:45 Just something i want to point out, the definition provided here is not a Cognitohazard, it is an Infohazard, there is slight difference. The difference is that you don't need to know you observed a Cognitohazard for it to be hazardous, you only have to observe it. Meanwhile, with an Infohazard, you actually have to know you have observed it.
I just wanted to let you know how great you're doing. Taking over a channel like this must be a crazy amount of work but you are fantastic and a worthy successor. Can't wait to see more of your work.
the concept of forgiveness has been absolutely bombarding me lately. The universe wants to tell me something, I'm sure. My definition of forgiveness isn't saying "its okay what you did. I am allowing you back into my life, despite you hurting me/others. I forgive you and now you have my trust again." No. My idea of forgiveness is being able to look at what someone did. See that they hurt you and/or others and go "I am hurt. I am mad that I was hurt. I didn't want to be hurt. I didn't DESERVE to be hurt. But I will no longer wallow in that sadness. I will not become vengeful and I will not let this take over my life and make me mean and bitter. I see what you did, and I hope you never do that again. I hope that justice finds you and I hope you grow. I hope you see what you did and learn from it. I cannot give you my trust, but I can give you my hope that you become better. That you grow into a person that no longer hurts others. I will not be the one to help you on your journey because I don't deserve to go through being the care giver to someone that hurt me, but I do genuinely wish that you become the best version of yourself." Letting go of the rage, the vengeance, the desire to do harm, that, in my mind, is forgiveness. You don't have to give that person trust again. Or even let them back into your life. Heck! You don't even have to TELL THEM that you forgive them. All you have to do is say it to yourself and mean it. You are never obligated to make the person that hurt YOU feel better. If facing them is what makes YOU feel better, do it. But if not, then don't. And its not about "forgive and forget". Keep the lessons you have learned. Use your experience to avoid possible future red flags and bad situations. It's not about 'getting over it'. Forgiveness is about healing YOU, letting you live in peace by letting go of the rage, not about absolving other's of their crimes. I wish everyone peace. Stay safe my theorist friends!
You are so right about forgiveness bringing peace. Forgiveness is not forgetting, and trust is like a wall, once you break it you have to rebuild from the foundation up.
yeah I've often interpreted it as releasing the death grip someone's harmful actions have on you. you don't have to like them, you don't have to be okay with what they did, you don't have to ever interact with them again, but it does mean accepting what happened and allowing yourself to move forward without the shadow of that person clinging to your ankle. it's not about accepting them for the bad person they are, it has nothing to do with how you feel about them, but rather how you approach what they've done
I sort of agree but a bit differently, to me revenge is forgiveness. If someone hurts me I will take my revenge until I can find it in myself to forgive. If I don't take revenge then I would never be able to forgive them and end up just hurting myself
@@RamenBowl2.0 But when will the need for revenge end? You will never know. Their is a reason for the saying, those who seek revenge will need to dig more than one grave. The need for revenge is an insidious poison. Also, what if they disappear and you can never find them again? And you still haven’t forgiven them? You’d still have all that bottle up resentment, no longer having the cause of your pain to exact that revenge on. That will also eat you from the inside out. Sometimes the best way to get back at those that have hurt you to forget they ever existed, because those that have hurt you thrive on the fact that they have left a piece of them in you like a piece of shrapnel that’s been embedded in you festering your wounds. So it’s just best to leave them to their demons, because their actions will put them in a situation they have to face Justice whether it be from others or their own hands. Now live your life, that is the best way to hurt them. 😊
It’s hard to be strong enough to let go. The fear you may be hurt again keeps them and the fears/sadness/indignation they brought upon you to the front of your mind. Even when you can let go, sometimes your body can’t. To forgive is not to forget, but to say “you can’t hurt me anymore; I refuse to believe it; you are part of my past. You are only another messed up human worthy of pity. I can move on and be better. I hope you can too, but either way, the time has come to move on. Goodbye, for real.” And to actually believe any of that is… friggin hard. It needs alot of physical and mental distance, and work. Best of luck to all in this thread.
More likely fear of punishment. They like having the power, and ehen thats taken from them, they have no idea what to do. Doesnt mean they feel guilt or shame, it really is just self preservation a lot of the time. I do hope he felt guilt and shame but i unfortunately dont fully believe he was capable of those feelings. @TheOriginal_Unaleska
2:35 SO! fun fact, Ephrata (pronounced eff-ruh-tuh) is a real town in Lancaster county, PA. its honestly really awesome to see something like this take place in the place where i live and grew up!!!
I feel like the watanabe bird segment is more metaphorical. To me it feels like a response to the victim wanting to be referred to as Zamperini, almost as if the boiled one is saying "I am your tormentor, I bring you your torture, I am the Watanabe to your Zamperini".
I like how both this series and this video prove that forgiveness is not being too weak to confront and punish your tormentors, it's being strong enough to break the psychological chains that your tormentors put on you, to drop and let go of the mental and emotional burdens that they put on you.
Fun Fact! Near the start of the video when it asks you to write the blue text on the paper, red text appears and says "I can't see this paper. I have no hand. I can hear the laughter of thousands. I can hear the feast. I cannot move nor do I want to."
That one quote where it says, “Nothing follows you when you turn out the lights,” still haunts me. As someone who already hates the dark, that still is in the back of my mind sometimes😭.
As an scp fan there's one detail that bothered me 😅 Congnitohazards aren't dangerous informations that hurt you, It thing that hurts when you sense them with any of the 5 senses, for example, seeing the boild one Infohazards are the knowledge that hurts you when you know it
Makes sense that the boiled one’s face is a cognitohazard and not an infohazard-if it were only an infohazard, amnestics would probably be completely effective. The condition is caused by having seen its face, not just by knowing its face.
Its a bit unrelated, but the thumbnail made me think that its like "it", the cosmic parasite that gives people the sense of pain and feeds off of it everytime they feel pain and growing stronger through that
Fun fact: the boiled one is actually partially inspired by a meme of a green sackboy from little big planet with the caption "the green one is here", this has been confirmed by the creator on twitter
As a born-and-raised Pennsylvanian, this is so, so scary. For example, at 8:53 Lee mentions Lancaster County. I know that place! I've been in Lancaster so many times. It's just so scary for an analogue horror series to take place so close to home.
Dude same, I’ve been to Ephrata a ton since some family lives there. Makes me slightly more nervous about going there. Tho I found it so funny how they pronounced Ephrata
For those who want to learn more about Louis Zamperini, hi! I live in Torrance which is the city he grew up in. He was known as the Torrance Tornado here, one of the best runner in track and field. There’s a book and movie called “Unbroken,” which details his story. I’m pretty sure the movie is still on Netflix.
Louis Zamparini and Watanabe being the main character inspirations for this is so interesting, because Watanabe targeted Louis so heavily during his captivity. The book "Unbroken" is a pretty good detailed telling of his time in captivity. Also- some of the quotes from the boiled one/Watanabe are real quotes. I believe, but could be wrong, the quote about it just being him and Zamparini is something Watanabe had actually said to Louis, either during or following the captivity
All I see is a broken person in need of forgivness. Step forth and let us experience life together at It’s fullest. We will enjoy pain and suffer throught love. Eat hatered and manifest excitement. The only one stoping you from this life of no sin is you. So why not instead of this live a life worth remembering ? Why punish yourself for everything ? If you can live this life then live it. Noone can know what you went throught or change it for It’s in the past, so why not shape the future for the better ? You’re comments right now are only proving that you are an incomplete human being. In other words you are a child which needs to be tought proper maners. Don’t talk to me again as an equal for you ARE in this moment inferior.
I think it poses its intentions as a prophecy. sort of an "x will happen" when if it were fully honest it would say more of an "I am trying to make x happen"
05:25 I’ve heard the re-reversed audio, and the Boiled One’s voice is actually rather calming and reassuring compared to the ominous inflection of the voice-over in this video.
I was going to point out that Ephrata and Lancaster, at least in PA, are supposed to have the emphasis on the first syllable (as learned when I was in Gettysburg for college).
YES so glad I wasn't the only one that was gonna mention it. Grew up by Lancaster, when they were reacting in GTLive and pronounced it like that it threw me off too lol.
Dude yeah, like as someone who lives close by, I feel like a d instead of a t sound is also acceptable, but the emphasis on the wrong syllable kinda hurt
I'm born and raised in Lancaster, and I have to correct the pronunciation-Ephrata is "effort-uh." Nitpicking aside, it's surreal to see my county (especially a town so close to me) referenced by a super cool horror webseries ❤️
Zamparini is such a strong man. I watched Unbroken, the movie about his capture. And it truly struck a chord, he is possibly the toughest man there would ever be on this earth.

Just something i want to point out, the definition provided here is not a Cognitohazard, it is an Infohazard, there is slight difference. The difference is that you don't need to know you observed a Cognitohazard for it to be hazardous, you only have to observe it. Meanwhile, with an Infohazard, you actually have to know you have observed it.
ur so cool
So basically, cognitohazard is abuse from a parent, and an infohazard is knowing the sorry state of the world. Did I get it right?

the concept of forgiveness has been absolutely bombarding me lately. The universe wants to tell me something, I'm sure. My definition of forgiveness isn't saying "its okay what you did. I am allowing you back into my life, despite you hurting me/others. I forgive you and now you have my trust again."
No.
I will not be the one to help you on your journey because I don't deserve to go through being the care giver to someone that hurt me, but I do genuinely wish that you become the best version of yourself."
Letting go of the rage, the vengeance, the desire to do harm, that, in my mind, is forgiveness.
Goodbye, for real.”
And to actually believe any of that is… friggin hard. It needs alot of physical and mental distance, and work. Best of luck to all in this thread.

I like how both this series and this video prove that forgiveness is not being too weak to confront and punish your tormentors, it's being strong enough to break the psychological chains that your tormentors put on you, to drop and let go of the mental and emotional burdens that they put on you.

Probably not a good idea to watch this at 10:14 at night lol
As someone who already hates the dark, that still is in the back of my mind sometimes😭.
lol Samesies
As an scp fan there's one detail that bothered me 😅
Congnitohazards aren't dangerous informations that hurt you,
It thing that hurts when you sense them with any of the 5 senses, for example, seeing the boild one
Infohazards are the knowledge that hurts you when you know it
Makes sense that the boiled one’s face is a cognitohazard and not an infohazard-if it were only an infohazard, amnestics would probably be completely effective.
The Boiled One's design makes me uneasy. I like it. It's also nice that the story has a positive message.
As a born-and-raised Pennsylvanian, this is so, so scary. For example, at 8:53 Lee mentions Lancaster County. I know that place! I've been in Lancaster so many times. It's just so scary for an analogue horror series to take place so close to home.
Did it follow?
There is nothing that follows you at night when you turn off the lights.

The only one stoping you from this life of no sin is you. So why not instead of this live a life worth remembering ? Why punish yourself for everything ? If you can live this life then live it. Noone can know what you went throught or change it for It’s in the past, so why not shape the future for the better ? The most disturbing part of this was the pronunciation of Ephrata (EPH-ruh-tuh)
I was going to point out that Ephrata and Lancaster, at least in PA, are supposed to have the emphasis on the first syllable (as learned when I was in Gettysburg for college).
Growing up in PA, yea, that was a bit of a "Hang on a sec..." moment.
