I have a 2020 and last year at 29,000 miles the DEF sensor crap came on. Took it to the dealer and they were not 100% honest with me. They said they had to order a new DEF tank because it was a recall and that the tank heater wires burnt off . They tried to fix it temporarily but it didnt work. Then after a couple weeks I asked about it and they finally told me they didnt know when the Part was going to be in, it was back ordered. So my 80K truck sat in my driveway for two months without being able to use it ! I wasn’t happy
my 2021 3500 Denali was leaking transmission oil , Steering was pulling to the right and ac compressor broke twice at 22k a 50k. Fuel door fell off and now the parking assist is not functioning. Very disappointed with the truck
My cousin had that happen to his truck and it was the turbo actuator (whatever the bell that is) and they didn’t have one anywhere and he’s out of a truck for 3 weeks so far. Same thing you’re seeing. Damn truck was going crazy ABS etc. exactly the same things you’re seeing with your truck.
You are used to the sliding nozzle turbo used by Holset/Cummins. Most other light duty diesel engines use variable vein/geometry turbochargers. Sliding nozzle works much better for exhaust braking

I've seen lost of weird shit happening with cars (with way less electronic stuff), because the bolt that is supposed to make the connection between chassis and the cable going to battery "-"side, was lose. So it's mechanical after all. Maybe if Bruce had given this bolt a few weeks to rust in place, it would not have vibrated lose???

I’ve worked a lot with big fleets and our GM and Dodge trucks constantly experience exhaust issue’s really fast when pulling trailers. They still do when not pulling just not as fast. Needless to say they spend more of their life in the service center than on the road. Blame the government for that. While all trucks have their problems our fords have stayed on the road much longer as well as handle the heavy loads much better all without exhaust issues de-rating the truck. Whole reason why I went with the 6.6 gasser as much as I love the Duramax the emission problems on all new diesels is a headache, plus they changed the ECM on the 24s so it’s even harder to delete now
How do u like the 6.6gas? Watching videos on it and some saying it’s pretty gutless. Was debating on going with the HD duramax but with all these emissions garbage I’m too worried.
@@nabatron21 I haven’t gotten to tow with it a lot yet but as my daily driver it’s been great I’m about to hit 5k miles
@@Michael_Puddephatt yeah I’m not really going to toe anything myself. More of dump runs, bringing shit to the house, travel. I’m worried about the power aspect of it for highway speeds and it might not have enough juice for get up and go.
@@nabatron21 oh it’s got plenty of power especially with how heavy it is I like it because it doesn’t have DFM
@@Michael_Puddephatt I’ll have to take a gasser and a duramax for a test drive see how both are side by side. I’m not too excited about the DEF and emissions bs for the duramax but would love the power and torque
Bruce i think you need to check wiring could be a short in the system it can cause shit to fail i had a problem not with that truck tho but it could a faulty wire causin the computer to short out
It’s a syncer I had the same issue it’s said all the same things that your truck said just keep driving it it won’t do anything or try to find a syncer for it.
Your truck should start getting better fuel mileage the more miles. You put on it when they're new and I've seen this on older DE remaxes. They have to get some miles on them before they start getting decent mileage.
Used to be able to do dpf back exhaust tips and what not but not anymore they are to sensitive throws codes without that little restrictive cone on the “vented” stock tip..
I have a 2021 L5P and no issues... Do yourself a favor and at least pick up a Banks iDash. You can see what gear you're in and know when you're about to go into Regen, etc... All super helpful information to know on these trucks. Doesnt void your warranty or anything like that, unless you get the derringer tuner, then you just unplug it when you go to the dealer. But yeah, these trucks are nice, but the more electronics that they keep putting in them, the more expensive they are and the more stuff that can go wrong.
Your exhaust brake is activated by pushing the brake pedal. Once you step on the brake once it activates.
Sticking with our 04 F-250 super duty. 220k miles, original head gaskets, no issues. Pulls our fifth wheel perfectly. Refuse to buy a new truck until these DPF issues get better. If ever.
I have a fully deleted and built 2020 L5p - deleted it a month after and been running fine - Texas shop almost has the 2024 dialed in for a delete but turbo will be a pain to swap if ever ….
And your MPG, I would say go to Amsoil. I use it in my engine, transmission, transfer case, front rear differentials and I get 20 to even 26 MPG sometimes with out pulling. And you can’t look at MPG until you get around 35,000.
Manually down shift with some rpm and you'll really feel that exhaust brake. Lightly hold brake pedal when you do it
I don't have powertrain/emissions system issues...yet on my 24 Denali ultimate, but my steering wheel leather and stitching has come apart and GMC denied the warranty claim 2 times truck has 650 miles. Hopefully, the warranty process isn't a pain for you on that it shouldn't be, but I didn't think it would be such a pain for a new truck on a steering wheel and it is so far lol. update 1800 miles has been sitting at the dealer for a month now with an oil cooler leak waiting on parts
Bruce, like the man said, disconnect the battery, or batteries for at least 10 minutes for a good restart.
Exhaust brake doesn’t work like you tried. It works when the load is pushing you downhill above cruise setting.
my 2021 3500 Denali was leaking transmission oil , Steering was pulling to the right and ac compressor broke twice at 22k a 50k. Fuel door fell off and now the parking assist is not functioning. Very disappointed with the truck
Got a 2022 with 10k miles. Carry a load every day. Zero issues
The second code you said is the issue.
Regen or erase the muffler. Dpf filter clogged in 2k miles.
Your check engine light might be an oxygen sensor or maybe a bad connection on one of the wiring harness
I had a wiring harness problem and now I have a catyillac converter code lol
My cousin had that happen to his truck and it was the turbo actuator (whatever the bell that is) and they didn’t have one anywhere and he’s out of a truck for 3 weeks so far. Same thing you’re seeing. Damn truck was going crazy ABS etc. exactly the same things you’re seeing with your truck.
I’m averaging 20-22 mpg in my stock 22 ram 2500 on 35s. Hauling 10k lbs at 15 mpg.
Is there an update of what happened?
You are used to the sliding nozzle turbo used by Holset/Cummins. Most other light duty diesel engines use variable vein/geometry turbochargers. Sliding nozzle works much better for exhaust braking
Bruce I’ve worked on them and I’ve had issues seems to me like there’s a ground issue GM’s are noted for ground issues maybe that might help you get it resolved as always great videos God bless you and your family and good luck with your new home
Of course!
Grounding issues.
I just got a base model gas Ford truck and optioned out of all the electronic crap that they come with standard
I work for honda assembly. I know i know its wayyy different but if you would see all the wiring in these new cars omg. Its ridiculous. I sweat we're installing moduals for everything. And on the "high grade" theres double the modules its carzyy.
Ohh man at least my 20gmc gave me problems until 160,000 miles but the bad news for me is that now I’m replacing transmission and differentials plus transfer case alisson trans, are not built by Alisson transmission anymore they’re been built by gm and they are a mess.
Lastly exhaust is a plus F, they so expensive to get them fixed and it doesn’t worth it.
There's convoluted ways to use the exhaust brake and you have to go into the settings there's different levels to the exhaust brake
Do those new chevys have the aluminum drive shaft in them. I hated that chevy done that, I know a farmer that had the aluminum drive shaft in a newer chevy and he snapped 3 of them using his truck on his farm
I’ve had my eye on one of these… idk I think my 16 with the straight exhaust might be worth holding onto for a couple years
Are you in tow mode with exhaust brake engaged?
I mean I’m on my 3 ford truck now we’ll older ones 86 F350 dually diesel and a stick in the floor it’s now where near fast and it had a swapped 7.3 in it vs the 6.9 but it runs and drives and goes down the road like a truck I just love it. For me every gm truck or Chevy i tried to get just never works out.
I have a 2024 2500 duramax and my exhaust brake works great. I tap my brakes once or twice to engage it.
Maybe you should take the fork truck to it and check under the hood lol
Had the same thing on my AT4. Ended up being a def heater was bad.
You are rough on stuff buddy 💀
Try giving the brake a light tap to get make the exh. brake work.
flies up the gears with a trailer on the back then a jeep goes past you lol hahahaha
Guys you don't have to buy a 300 dollar hitch for these. I took my regular 20 dollar hitch, slid it all the way into the receiver, and just drilled a new hole for the pin..... Works perfect and doesn't hit the tailgate so step.... Just FYI 🙂
I just bought a 2024 ram 3500 dually after watching a ton of vidoes on ford, gmc and ram. Keep scores on every ones thoughts and towing and when they where heavy the ram was the best. So i went the way of ram. I like the look of the GMC but you can not find a dually and if you order one its 5 to 6 months out they told me. The guys that were towing with the rams were over 36,000 pounds on there trailers could not find any videos of GMC towing that heavy. plus why do they only come with 3.43 gears only.
Buddy has the identical same truck. Service engine light goes off and on every few days. Dealer says don’t know and just drive it doesn’t show code and won’t read it. Seems like they just sell trucks and don’t test them before hand. He’s had it for two months and had 14k miles.
This guy could destroy a cannon ball.
If you didn’t want the big screen then buy the base model.
GMC,Chevy trucks has major transmissions problems 1015-2020. Also the trailer break system has problems, my shows Gide and I have not used it yet. 62,000 miles and I had to pay 1/2 for a new transmission. 6 th and last Chevy for me.
💭 u lightened it up?
Heard the 24's are having some emissions system sensor issues. Gm Is supposed to release a ECM flash this week which should be available at the dealers next week.
On my 2016 the exhaust brake doesn’t kick in till you apply some brake pressure
My 2022 L5P on 35’s gets 18-20 on the freeway unloaded, and towing a 7,000 pound camper I get 10-13. Sounds like you might have some issues🤷🏻♂️
Keep up the videos!👊🏼
I’m gonna get the grass cut at the appling pull track for ya Bruce 👍👍
New trucks you gotta at least press the brake pedal hard enough to turn on your brake lights and the exhaust brake will work
Bruce, I have a LTZ Silverado with Duramax. I also been having a bunch of issues. I thought I was the only one. I had No start with continual cranking. I have my own scan tool so I got it started. It went into a limp mode recently with extremely hard shifting with metellic sounds. I took it to the dealer and tech said they have to Order a new ECU. I've had Led drl go out on each side very inconsistent. I have yet to get the step issue as I have power steps aswell. Overall I'm disappointed with the truck thus far. I'm at 1,800 miles completely unacceptable
Whats the updated on the truck
The reason why it hits the hitch, your not supposed to leave a receiver in when not towing
I've always bought new until recently. I bought an '03 dually, 6 speed, coal burning, glacier melting F350 with no rust. I won't have a problem with putting in $10K - $15K. I'm petty sure I'll have a better truck than anything that can be bought new today.
Any plans on adding any banks products ?
Can we get a update on the fast fuel filter set up..
DTC P244B check the pressure sensor under truck ,Hoses / Lines @ B345P Exhaust Pressure Differential Sensor - Particulate Filter - Blocked / Cracked / Disconnected / Kinked / Leaking / Missing / Restricted / Visible Damage
Deleted and TUNED trucks tow way better then stock tune tune the veins in the turbo for the exhaust break to slow it down better
exhaust brake is works on brake pressure but not sure about chevys, fords will work with no load and loaded down
I used to work at a gm and ford dealership and the gm trucks have been having issues Def system and and seen many motors replaced
The miles to the gallon is some the driver and some the truck if you step on it like if you have to be going 60 in 5seconds then it won’t get good mileage my 2019 chevy l5p gets good highway but around 14 with trailer mine runs to Sarasota on 2 1/2 tanks of diesel at 32 gallon tank and burn outs are always gonna cause issues you play you pay
The screen is one of the best things about the truck.
The check engine light has been on 95% of the time? Take it back to the dealer.
Lot of sensor/emissions issues with the 2024 gm/chevy. Although i like the zr2 hd...i ordered the 2024 F350 Tremor high output powerstroke...imo ford makes the best heavy duty truck
So a brand new Duramax gets less than 10 mpg but the 13 Chevy dually vortex we haul with gets 12mpg with 20k lbs behind it. What the crap is that🤦🏻
Check the main chassis grounds might be loose or not making contact
Break in the engine yet?
Bad Ground Wire somewhere?
Got a 18 Ford F250 6.7. 385k and haven't seen a check engine light
I have a 2021 and it works perfect.
My truck went crazy when the Trailer brake controller went bad. The engine brake was coming on when not needed. Had a transmission history code with no check engine. But still love GM trucks.
