@@kitishot he's both, really. Gin's alcoholism is so bad, a bunch of the cast conspired to do something about it in the Scandal arc. Multiple characters refer to him coming home wasted on a frequent basis. He's even shown stumbling drunk/passing out in at least two of the openings. It's really a race between his liver failing and his balls exploding to see which vice is a bigger problem for him.
Gintama is something unexplainable. It has batshit crazy comedy which made me cry from laughter, it has some of the best serious arcs out of all anime and the characters just grow on you and make you feel like you grew up with them. It has taken a special place in my heart. It is like that one item you have used for years, during the worst and the best moments of your life and you will never replace it with a new one. It kind of taught me what is important in life.
They are the deadpool(4th wallbreaker) of anime, even better is that they know that they are in an anime(previously in a manga) they know that they can be sued and cancelled for copyrights, and for showing some(explicit) stuff. Does that stop them? No, but some characters do try to keep the scenes as pg as they can. They always talks about limited budgets, plotholes, storylines, they even have the best filler episodes because you could hardly differentiate it from normal episodes. They even have a running gag about a filler scene that has been reused at least 4 times, they only changed the dialogue and nobody would notice since they are far apart. Fun fact every serious 1 second in the video is probably one of two things, one majority of the episode is serious (70% serious and 30% comedy), two the scene was so good it had to be added. Most episodes are 90% comedy and 10% serious .
SAME BROO!! I actually watched like 80 eps of gintama back in 2018-2020 but in June 2024 I was like I'm gonna watch all of this and rn I'm in gintama season 6😭
What is it? Ummm... Emmmm... Well... This is Gintama. One of the hardest anime for explain xDDD And yeah... This is not cock. This is the *Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon*
There ARE times when Gintama parodies something, and the side that get parody are not happy about it. But not much. The joke is that the animation studio has a professional apologize team on speed dial 😂😂
I love it that you caught on to a lot of anime/manga references made in this series! Gintama is heavily episodic - it’s made up of mostly one-off episodes or short arcs lasting 2-3 episodes and the first “serious” arc starts around 50ish episodes in (with the story getting heavier near the end as you can tell from the vid). If you really do plan on watching this, I would highly suggest to start at episode 3, since episode 1-2 is mostly for those who have read the manga or if you are familiar with Japanese pop culture. Also, you might want to watch at a comfortable pace and not binge watch it (: As Gintama fans, we’ve seen so many reactors rush through this series only to end up dropping it in the early 20-30ish episodes because it doesn’t get to the “good stuff” (i.e hype fights) quick enough 😅 But it’s important to understand that the comedy in this series is important because it’s for world-building (and yes they are all manga canon except for 3 - 5 episodes I think), and it will pay off when you get to the heavy arcs near the end! Also fyi, Gintama only had one approved anime collaboration with Sket Dance - all other references (including the blatant rip-offs you saw like DBZ and One Piece) were made without permission and the team had to constantly apologize to the higher-ups because of that (the show was threatened to cancel multiple times, and they even got into really big trouble over referencing a particular Japanese politician which resulted in heavy censorship on a particular episode), but they managed to wrap up the series eventually. It really showed the passion that the production team had for Gintama 😂 Hopefully you give this series a chance, even if you’re just watching it off-camera! I’m just here to spread some love for Gintama, and I think you will enjoy this series seeing that you’re familiar with old school anime and those from the 2000s. But hey if you ever decide to react to it on your channel, I’d love to watch the uncut reactions on Patreon! (Omg I didn’t realize this turned into a wall of text lmao, but yeah I enjoyed this vid! Thanks for the entertainment!)
Oh yeah, as for why the show is titled "Gintama," its because the original mangaka wanted high school girls to walk about talking about the show, saying Gintama everywhere, which incidentally sounds REALLY close to the Japanese word for testicles (kintama)
Ah yeah, this is is my favorite anime of all time. Best comedy and parody anime for me. But "Gintama" can also be serious. There really is a plot here that is hidden behind a lot of comedy episodes. It's hard to explain in words. You need to see it for yourself.
I feel like if you like jojo's then you will definitely like this!! its sooo good!! The mix of comedy and action is just perfect!!! it helped me get through my day whenever i wanted a laugh... its just too good to be true... 😂😂 and personally, I think this is WAAYYY more bizarre than jojos but both to me are equally as amazing!!
If you want to watch this anime, it's better to not have any expectations at all. All you have to keep in mind is that this show is full of imperfect adult characters. Sometimes it's good, bad, cringy, phenomenal, hilarious, tear-jerking, disgvsting, and makes you feel any types of emotion. Gintama is not perfect but hits home. Edit: another advice, watching this show while eating might cause you to choke on your own food or feel the sudden urge to thr0w up (srs)
The thing is, context doesn’t really help most of these moments. Gintama is absolutely the best show ever made. It’s silly and goofy but when it gets real, it does it right. You will go from cry laughing to just straight crying. Then back to cry laughing.
poking butthole, is an asian prank for young boys. i knew that growing up. apparently it's not a common thing, versus an assault in america. In Korea, this is sooo common, and it's culturally accepted as a prank.
Why do so may that react to this mistake the Captain Harlock references for something like Code Geass???? Still, this has to be the first reaction to Gintama where the reactor actually got the Evangelion reference.
Sooo.... Another name you can give this anime is "the try not to get copyright strike challange anime" just because of the shear amount of call-out to other animes it has. So yeah
Gintama actually does not have any copyright license, their production team just apologized quickly😆
65% Comedy
35% Serious stuff which is actually very very good..
Unique show which will probably never be replicated in the current environment..

Kagura doesn't really eat dogfood tho. That one episode was symbolic, she's just wolfing down sukonbu and egg on rice

This show is so random, they even managed to hire the singer of One Piece OP 1 to perform that song at Gintama matsuri event 😂
They also managed to hire the real japanese va for jackie chan, in that one jackie chan episode

One of my all time favorite Gintama digs at other shows was when Gintama explained filler, and how it can screw up an anime adaptation.
