@@SirReginaldBlomfield1234 yes I certainly expected better from such a prestigious store like M&S, quality is all very well, but if the quantity is lacking, especially for what I see as quite a pricey item, then good value it isn't. M&S use to make a beef ,carrot and onion suet pudding. They were so popular they use to sell out within a few days of delivery and then they stopped selling them. They were the best suet puddings I've ever had.
Yeah, I suspect they get good products like that and then they sell out so fast and are of sufficient quality and price that they dont sell any other similar products so profits go down, ASDA and Morrisons also used to have products like that, ASDAs bacon and beans, 50p a tin was great then they stopped selling it as was always sold out and nobody bought any other products, and Morrisons did an all day breakfast in a tin which was 79p and was good but no ody bought the more expensive ones so they also stopped selling those.

Hi Gareth, I’m going to make my own this week in the air fryer, l just cook the steak the day before, and l just use a dumpling mix and roll it out, it only takes 20 minutes in the air fryer.
Thank you for this, a bit on the expensive side considering the filling. Remember Goblin suet meat puddings? We had a lot of them when first wed in the early 70's. I saw them recently in Asda, tempting
Hi Gareth, Always enjoy your videos. Have tried the Frae Bentos Steak Suet Pudding, thought it was alright but not great. Will have to look out for the M&S one.
I've had the same problem with other suet puds, including tinned ones. I ended up eating half suet and throwing the rest away as there simply wasn't enough meat. Me, I like plenty of good beef in a pie (like you). Thanks for the review.
My Mrs works at co op and she bought a family steak pie home and I'm usually not that keen on pies this was fab full of meat tasty pastry was nice too well worth a try.
I haven't had a steak suet pudding for a few years, but my wallet can't stretch to 3 notes for something so small and not a lot of meat. Still a good video Gareth. 👍
I love the fray bentos ones..we shop at m&s alot so will try this, fray bentos ones are best done in the can but they are hard to find now, m&s do some things very well but in the last few years i have found them cutting corners with fillings etc.
My local beef farm shop makes pie of such excellent quality you can't really tell the difference between their steak and potato pie and their steak pie because there's so much meat, priced at four for £6. M&S have made a reputation now as a grocer and will be looking at reducing cost and increasing profit until people catch on. That was a £1.50 pud with prestige pricing.
I'm sure it tastes fine mate - most M&S stuff does, doesn't it? But I would've expected more filling from them That was a little disappointing? Thanks yet again for the review. Regards, Dave
Sadly the lack of filling is the same for nearly all shop bought pies. I can recommend the Greggs steak pies sold in Iceland - a pack of two for £3. would love you to review these if you get a chance. better than their steak bakes in my opinion. They also sell a chicken version which aren't quite as good.
Gareth ... Think the Steak ran off with the Kidneys ! 😂 Agree with your views, there just wasn't enough filling, but of course you can't see that until after cooking them. Looked nice all the same though and you did seem to enjoy what you got. Great review, thank you as always 👍👏😉
Great review Gaz that was in my opinion let down by the price and as for traceability they can tell you that it comes from the farms that they get cows from and not a exact farm ( I am a livestock farmer) just so you know there traceability is keep up with the fantastic reviews as always 👏👏👍👍
My wife and I have had a few M & S meal deals and they have all be great value for money - even the beef joint meals. But this appears to be poor value at £3. Really rather small with little filling. I'll be giving it a miss. Thanks for the warning Gaz.
If Aldi can been generous with the meat in the pie you tried couple of days ago, you'd think M&S pie would be. Looks good though, but bit pricey. Do like your pie reviews 👍😊
We recently bought M&S steak slices and chicken slices, I think they were £2.50 for 2. They were hands down the worst bakes we’ve ever bought and both went in the bin. Under seasoned, awful meat/gravy in both and hard tasteless pastry. I suggest you review them for a laugh 😜
Some manufacturers must price their products based on the fact you'll only buy once, because no one would pay that again for a pudding half full of air
Used to love the steak puddings they sold in Ashton-under-Lyne Market. Not been up there for some years, but might go back this summer. I doubt they'll be £3 each though!
Gareth I would try it it looks good but as you get minimal amount of meat for the highest price they could charge you.. it is expensive but quality does pay . Glad you enjoyed it see you on your next review
Another great pie week review. I don't think 3 quid is that bad at all, but then that would be in comparison to a pie that I purchased last week in a small delicatessan shop. I can only describe that particular pie costing just over five pounds as having a sloppy wet 'cow pat' taste all wrapped in a white rubbery leather looking 70's jacket.
They are very tasty, I buy them in pkt of four which cost £6.00. Nice with mash and cabbage. The same size you just brought, a bit dear £3.00 for a single one.
*Very very interesting when I saw suet pudding and this was impeccably investigated and tasted * *I would like to try this as I’ve not tried one for years* Awesome bald foodie guy 👌👌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*
Always enjoy the forensic examination of the product you are reviewing. Are we getting VFM in 2023 ? Expect high standards from M&S, usually deliver, but have noticed pie fillings across the board found wanting.
Hi Gareth, well that looked disappointing from M+S imo but I'm sure what was in it was nice, great that it's British meat, for me I only have the Hollands steak and kidney puddings I honestly haven't tasted a better pud at 4 for £3.80/£4.00 cheers for the heads up on this one mate ✌️🍻
It's a shame that it was lacking filling but it did look really tasty. Have you tried a Radfords pie? I'd love to know how the chicken in gravy and their steak pies taste. They're based in Lancaster.
Thanks for the review, Gareth. The M&S steak and kidney puds are packed with meat and are £4.75 for 2, I think they are better value than this one looks to be.
Steak and kidney suet pudding is my favourite (homemade of course). My mum grew up in Lancashire and ate them regularly, she got me into them😋That one was very small and expensive but at least it gave you a delicious taste sensation.
There comes a point where sometimes the quality is good, but the amount of filling is poor in relation to the price. A beef suet pudding should be full of meat and some onion. I prefer to have some kidney in mine as well. I haven't made one from scratch for quite a few years now. I also like my suet pastry to be less crispy and more soggy. I also made it with a Guinness gravy. Put some in the pudding and use the rest over my veg and mash, lovely.
Eat what you bloody well want to ! no one should tell you what you can or can't eat ! my Mrs would never tell me she doesn't like me eating this that or the other, she even buys me a crate of beer if she pops out to the shops !
Looks like the meat had already gone back to the farm. I do like a good steak & kidney pudding but good ones are hard to find. Waitrose sell a pack of 2 for £5, they are filled to the top and have plenty of meat including generous sizeable chunks of kidney.
