Takes a real man with real balls to sit down and talk about his losses and TKO losses or knockout losses so Ramsey you are the real deal! and I love you man God bless you!
@@rockengy-912 it's not about what you feel dumbass it's about the brain damage. The more damage you get the less you worry about it cuz your too dumb to care lol.
I like that you pause before continuing, shows that you respect your audience enough to pause and really think through what you are saying. Most people just talk so fast and think afterwards. :) I started doing that and it’s given my communication skills better results.
It might just be becasue otehr youtubers employ the use of "jump-cuts" or just edit out the parts where they pause, but regardless, I agree, not everything has to be fast paced. I just noticed my typing was pretty fast-paced back there hence the spelling errors, but I aint gunna edit that in leiu of the subject matter lol.
you can get add ons that increase the speed. The one I use can go up to 16x (though sound cuts off past 4x for some reason) addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/videospeed/
I like how he gets straight to the point and then gives additional thoughts that you can choose to watch or not to watch. It's like the opposite of clickbait.
I started watching you because of the self defense videos, and stayed because you're and interesting and engaging person. Some of the content I'm not particularly interested in, but watch anyway, as I seem to gain knowledge from you.
The closest I got to being knocked out was the first time sparring with my teacher. I was the only one who showed up that day and I needed a partner. Keep in mind, this guy was a marine, his walls were decorated with black belt certificates from various martial arts, we actually had to take some down to put mirrors up. I thought I was good, I could take down pretty much anyone else in the class, but I'd never sparred him before. So, this guy, who vowed to never go easy on me because he wanted me to be able to kick his behind one day, is about to spar with me. I'm excited, I get to test my mettle against someone who actually knows what they're doing and has tons of experience. No restrictions, we only had one rule, and that was no closed fist to the face. We didnt wanna knock each other out, so only palm strikes (you'll see in a moment that rule didnt help me any). As soon as we begin, three blindingly fast palm strikes to my chin dazed me. He stopped right there because he saw I was dazed and I swear if he threw another one I'd have been down because I was already groggy there while I was standing. I remember everything getting blurry and my arms dropping. He made sure I was okay, and after shaking my head like a dog I was able to regain full consciousness. He gave me a few quick tips, he strengthened my defense, and we continued. He still whooped me like nobodies business that day, but I enjoyed it because I knew I'd get better. Took him 6 years to bring me to a point of holding my own against him and I'm certain it's only because his age got the better of him. My greatest achievement will always be the time I was able to back him up and keep him in a corner. He brought me to heights I had to strain my eyes to see before, and Mr. Dewey, you remind me a lot of him.
I respected you before this but nothing like I do now. You faced up to your mortality and frailty and have accepted them and dealt with them, and you are still in the fight game, you still spar. You've not let fear conquer you, and you try to help others. You may not realize how great this is, but trust me, it is inspiring. Keep at it, keep going. Not many people can do what you are doing. Thanks for posting!
I was knocked out in a full contact taekwondo national sparring fight brutal fights old school. I was out only for a few minutes but it was very very weird. When you see the cartoons with stars spinning around the head i thought that was just animation. But you actually see it for me it was kind of like bright sparkles spinning freaked me out.
Tac Blades I got hit in the head but it didn’t knock me out, it gave a me a concussion though. What happened was, when I got hit, everything in my field of view went black and I saw a streak of light in my eyes, it was weird. I then regained my vision and I had a throbbing headache and I felt bad. I felt dizzy. It felt almost sickening, my migraine got worse, I went home, took some ibuprofen and went straight to bed. The person who had hit me didn’t actually intend to do it, we were playing some weird chicken game similar to flag football and he tripped, as he tripped, his leg came up and hit me right under the cheekbone and his heel impacted my ear.
Some dude kicked me in the neck real hard during a competition and I was just shook af. I couldn't breathe for like 2 seconds but I could continue. I ended up losing TT
I got flying spin kicked in the head hard once. Smashed my head into a corner of a stairway bottom and top. Never knocked out but fuck humans dont hurt me and that shit hurt . Specially when i jumped down a flight of stairs and hit the corner on the stairway celing at the bottom of the stairs. Ive been bodyslammed on hard surface that just knocks the wind outta me rly bad makes u dizzy. I kinda dont feel pain much. Mangled my arm once and i only was yelling because i wanted people to shut the fuck up and stop asking to look at my disfigured arm and call 911
My IQ just increased 70% after watching this video! Man! listening to you is like reading a very interesting book. Your voice is very captivating. I dunno why you’re giving all this knowledge for free bcz I think it’s worth loads of money! You literally just narrated a best selling book there in 20 minutes! 🙏🏻
I got knocked out in 72 and never fought again, I was eighteen, I had multiple vision for over three weeks. In 1972 the docs just scratched their heads, one said you will probably recover slowly and the other said you might not recover at all. Also you’ve had a serious fractured skull when you were young, which was true though I didn’t know how serious. They said I should never have been fighting in the first place and both suggested that I never fight again. Yeah well I thought I would take up something less dangerous, so I took up rock climbing, must have the stupid gene in me. From that knockout I noticed an almost imperceptible hiss and fifteen years later I could hear every heartbeat as a pulsing hiss. Forty seven years later it’s much louder, in fact it’s louder than normal conversation, in fact almost anything really. I have trained my brain not to hear it; wish I hadn’t typed this now because that’s all I hear but it will retreat into the background if I concentrate on something else. Be glad of your silence as I would love to experience it again but I never will.
Thank you for sharing, so sorry. I have family who have done time in prison, confinement. And after neglect for long periods, they’ve shared hearing something that lasted with them. Even after their time and it exhausts them, I’m so very sorry
Sounds like possible tinnitus or maybe still a very rare condition called SCC dehiscence syndrome secondary to trauma , follow it up man I feel for you, all the best
Dude that's tinnitus. I've had it since getting knocked out. It's remained pretty much the same throughout and aslong as you don't think about it, it doesn't really bother me.
To be honest, I would never have guessed that you had a speaking issue. It appears the videos were a successful method for you, congrats! Maybe I should try this for my stammer, but I've got a face for radio more than video.
Honestly I saw something odd but couldn't put a finger on it. Nothing weird or unsettling however, just a "there's something" but not ridiculous in any way
I’ve lost most of my eyesight back in 2004 when I trained here in the States with a mix of Muay Thai and BJJ. I almost became completely blind from all the full contact sparring and subsequent retinal detachments. Bad mixture of poor training partners and a genetic predisposition for retinal detachments. Also scar tissue in my eye from the healing process ultimately messed me up bad. Ive been medically banned obviously from ever practicing again and I still wish I could fufill my dream of learning a bunch of other different styles and fighting professionally. Or at least becoming better overall for myself. The point of this is, like your story, you never really realize what you give up in order to get what you want till it after it is gone. I am sorry to hear about your own health issues but I can guess you’d do it all again in a heartbeat. Even after my meer 2-3 years of training 16 years later I wish I could practice again. But Ian still thankful I have at least some sight left. Thank you for all of your videos and stories my friend. -Ryan
I have read that UFC lightweight Justin Gaetjhe also suffered from terrible eye sight due to blows he has taken to head while sparring and fights, but after some kinda retina repair surgery his eye is almost back to normal, I hope that might help you too I guess it must've been really hard for you losing eye sight I can't even imagine
@@umaransari9765 Yeah that’s how it started for me too. The problem was during the repairs and recovery though. I would’ve been fine just like that guy was, it just was an unlucky situation that almost costed me my entire eyesight. It has been extremely hard, big life changing events tend to echo through the years you’re left on the planet. I chose to gain strength from it though and that’s something I couldn’t have ever been taught. I appreciate your comment though. All the best
@@kozmo7 it's hard for me to understand what you have went through and are going through, losing my eye sight is one of the biggest fear, hats off to you how you dealt with this situation
@@umaransari9765 No worries and thank you. It’s one of my biggest fears too, but honestly, we never really get to choose what happens to us in life. We only get to choose how we deal with it. I just chose to be stronger. I’m no different from you or anyone else, that’s the beauty of free will. Cheers my friend
I’ve been knocked out twice. It doesn’t hurt like a normal injury. You know you’ve been knocked out while your vision shakes. Then you fall in slow motion, like time slows down. Then time speeds up as you hit the ground. Both times I’ve been knocked out I could hear the crowd going “ooooooooo!” as you lose consciousness. That’s actually worst than losing the fight. Oh, and for you people that say traditional martial arts doesn’t work, I’ve been knocked out by a spinning forearm.
Interesting. My first experience with being knocked out was the opposite. One minute I was standing next I was on my ass. I remember being in a verbal confrontation, I remember seeing his shoulder move, I remember getting hit but don't have memory of the pain that must of come with the hit. Then things were black with sparks of light and suddenly I was on the ground. I found going from standing to my ass with no inbetween very confusing and that made it scary. No slow mo for me, just blank.
times i realized i was knocked out i heard that " OoOoOoOoo" From the crowd. The other time my legs went one way and my top half went the other the world was spinning. I ran into spartan style into a haymaker lmaooooo i really wish it was caught on camera ahah
One of the most enjoyable facets of your channel is your slower rate of speech. I've noticed that even speaking in this manner with others allows one to perfect their delivery and produce what sometimes feels like an "endless thought" which I find very satisfying. I do this in my daily life as well and it made me realize long ago that there is a lot more time than people commonly perceive. You have a new subscriber! Thank you for the content!
Once when I was fighting in the Toughman Contest... all of a sudden I found myself standing in a pitch black room. Then I felt a punch to my face, and realized I must be in a fight and my hands were down. After I got my hands up, I was punched in the face again, but now was able to see, so I started going after my opponent... but the ref gave me a standing eight count, and my opponent ran the rest of the round. :/ That was my first loss, and the only time I was stunned in a fight. I didn't feel a thing.
Something that many people don't understand until it happens. Being stunned or knocked out is a result of the brain either being overloaded and unable to process correctly, or suddenly made to stop. There is little to no thought. What we experience as pain is nothing more that how our brain reacts to the signals from our body (or the lack of signal). Well, if you aren't thinking, you aren't going to process what happened entirely, if at all.
My friends and i used to mess around with some boxing gloves. We quickly realized that they weren't the puffy, harmless gloves they appear to be. One good shot will put you out, pro or not
@@792bnz facts! I always said I hate getting hit with boxing gloves. Rather bare knuckle or mma gloves. Boxing gloves numbs your whole senses to me lol i love both but I rather box than do mma but mma is safer but boxing pays more and I like the science but I’m not beat for permanent head trauma
I think your explanation of memory is a great example of why nostalgia is such a powerful thing. You see video of Vietnam veterans being reunited with old service rifles and it’s like they never left service, or you see old gymnasts or weightlifters be brought in a gym and it’s like they never stopped. In the same way, when you experience something, you are “stretching” or “conditioning” that muscle, especially if it was a repetitive thing (a tv show, a song). When you go back to that media, it is using that part of your brain and it’s “stretching” that muscle that hasn’t been used in a long time.
Brave man right here. Real as they come. God bless you man. Glad you're okay and mentoring us whether we've experienced this or Not! I love the content and how articulate you are in breaking down these situations.
Got KOed in car accident...honestly I didnt feel a thing and I dont remember impact. All I remember was spinning in car, next Im looking at the most beautiful nurses ever saw. I had a ticket in my pocket for not showing insurance and dont remember signing it. Dont remember cop or ambulance or couple stitches in hand, nothing. And no pain either. And I never regained any memory from accident just coming to at hospital sitting in a chair behind the counter with nurses asking me questions, whats your name, where do you live, stuff like that. Diagnosis...concussion. I do remember once I did come to it was sudden and all of a sudden I was aware I was in accident and Im at hospital, but no memory from spinning car to that moment. Thats my KO story.
I love synchronicities, when the right piece of information comes along at just the right time. Due to my own cranial trauma as well as medications I've taken I deal with memory issues as well as word-finding issues when speaking (but not so much when typing or when I have the time to let the processes still) so everything from the subjective experiences you've related, your insights on the nature and location of consciousness and memory, and even developing areas where you recognize a weakness has been perfectly relevant and useful. Thank you.
Ramsey....a few months ago I randomly found your channel and I have been hooked ever since. Your martial arts insight, philosophical knowledge and relating it to real life is truly inspirational. Keep it up...because I want to keep learning. 👍
Absolutely inspiring video, thank you. Years ago I was kicked in the head so hard that the lights went out, but I remained on my feet (so something between a knockout and remaining fully conscious). Once the lights came back on a few seconds later, I was able to continue sparing and went back at my opponent. However, I realized after the sparing match that I could not remember the last few minutes before the hit, and I had a tremendous headache that ended up lasting 2-3 days. In retrospect I probably had a concussion, but at age 17 didn't think much of it. It took a couple of weeks before I could remember those lost minutes, but I am grateful they came back. This video has so much value, both in terms of educating viewers about knockouts and their dangers, but also insight into the man we are watching bare parts of his soul that are deeply personal and inspiring. Thank you again for making this video, liked and subscribed.
And there’s a reason I have so much respect for fighters like pernell Whittaker and mayweather jr. They mastered the art of defense and used it to perfection
I make a living off my memory as a physician. I too was involved in contact sports and boxing really put the cherry in top. I've had to do alot of cognitive therapy and training. Overall I'm very happy with my memory recovery and it's actually very sharp now. But I've noticed some behavioral changes. Mostly being short tempered at time or I'll get very frustrated at small things at times and I was never like this. Im 36 and I dont like this about my self. I was never like this This all happened when I stepped back from fighting. I checked my hormones and testosterone are optimal and I have no shortages of any other chemical hormone. Also admittedly I find my self talking I do slurr certain words if I'm talking fast. I hear my self but I cant control it at times. Memories are emotions. Hence why computers differ.
I got KO'ed once in a nightclub - guy smashed a bottle on my head. I was out for like 6 seconds or so, and then - and this freaked the guy out - I sprang up like some kind of zombie, still 100% ready to go at it, but spurting blood everywhere from a 2" gash on my head. I'm kinda glad with hindsight that the bouncers stopped me & calmed me down, because I really did need immediate medical attention. I could have bled out there & then & I'd have been too busy still trying to kick the guy's ass. We're both ok with it now, ancient history. I got 7 stitches that night & learned a valuable lesson.
Hey man, do you think going to clubs/partying was worth it? I'm 17 nearly 18, all of my friends go clubbing, getting hammered. I don't really find it appealing, as I like boxing or doing something physical. I guess I just have a fear of missing out, missing out on girls, missing out on fun times meeting people. Was it worth it?
@@Nikora.Biddle I had loads of fun & made a bunch of friends who I'm still in contact with, and we get together virtually over Twitch & Discord to do DJ sets and whatnot. I wouldn't have missed it for the world, really. Balance in all things though: experience all of life's rich banquet, but don't get addicted to anything. Anyway, dancing's pretty physical, as is moshing. Quite a few of my friends were martial artists of one sort or another. A couple of them worked as doormen. It's not mutually exclusive by a long chalk.
I really like how you take a second of silence, I wish more people would do that, I am tired of people who trying to explain or express something while rushing instead of enjoy the moment of conversation by taking a second of silence. Also I like how you take big breaths, its very calming, other people can make me feel like someone is squeezing my throat, coz I can take a second to breath.
I had a similar experience to your 40 min knockout. Mine was work related accident. Fell and hit back of my head. Was extremely lucky i took the hit on a tendon that attaches to back of the skull. Punched a hole through it. Little bit above and it would be serious skull fracture or little bit lower and i would have broken my neck. In any case...this KO felt like it lasted for years. I was in a different place living a happy life the entire time and when i woke up i was so lost and confused. Took some 5 to 10 years to get over it. Its no joke.
First of all: Good thing you recovered so well and are still working on improvement. Best wishes to you and stay well. Personal experience with KO: Had only kind of a TKO so far, it was during training, had to spar ( Boxing ) with a freshmeat who had twice my bodyweight. What I didn't know, was that a friend of his had broken his frontal sinus during a "friendly sparring" with him. I noticed that he was scared but didn't think much about it, my thought was that as soon as he would realise that my hits aren't meant to hurt him, but merely "touching" his face, that it's all just a game... weeell I was wrong... my advantage in speed and technique scared him even more and he went full panic-mode. Suddenly he jumped forward and threw me with his right against the mirrorwall of the gym, I dropped my guard in order to catch myself before smashing into the mirror and in that moment he landed a full bodyweight jumped in left-haymaker into my face. Broke the nose, took a cave in hole at the side of it (luckily it healed well), my sight went dark and shook, my ears rattled, my legs went jelly, stumbling to the side. I was fully aware that I wouldn't have been able to defend myself any further from this point on and finished the session.
Thank you for this video, I got T.K.O 2 times and K.O 1 time but I never went unconscious. So it was great to know how it feels. But I think that anyone who gets unconscious feel it diferent differently than others.
Man, this video was actually super beautiful!! I love these windows into your world and experiences, you seem like an absolute legend. Thanks for sharing brother.
Really thank you for this video sir. You were very honest and I learnt a lot about fighting. Much respect. I was a bleeder during training and my trainer was pushing me hard to not give up but it was taking a toll on me day by day and I gave up. Probably today he thinks I am a coward. I feel so ashamed of myself everytime I think about it.
Last part of the video is so relatable. I may be a clutterer too (if that's the correct term), I don't actually stutter but sometimes I wanna say like 5 words (usually synonyms) at the same time and what comes out is just a bunch of nonsense, I have to stop talking and start again (it started right before my final exams in high school). I find that pausing and taking the time to talk helps a lot, like "re-organizing my thoughts", but people seems to get frustrated, so I totally get what you're saying :) Now, back to the important info: I have two days to catch up with 3 podcasts. Wish me luck. :D
As always, I love your feedback! As far as cluttering is concerned, when I learned what it was, it got a lot easier to control, and much easier to express myself vocally. Good luck with the podcasts!
Yep :D when it started they told me "it's just stress, I'll be gone in a couple of days" (it was right before my finals). 17 years later it's still going XD
One time I was drunk at a party and the big homie sucker punched me I was drunk ,i woke up looked at my face wondering if I got in a fight .i call my friend ASAP he tells me the big homie knocked me out with a 4 lpunch combo and my whole body went stiff then my head hit the ground even harder then the punches themselves so I guess I got double knocked out
Fascinating video. I was playing rugby and bent down to pick up the ball and someone's elbow collected me in the head. I lost total control of my body and couldn't move, but I could still see everything as my body tumbled to the ground. I felt the pressure of me hitting the field, but no pain. A second later all my coordination kicked back in and I picked myself straight up and went on with things. I don't know if that was classed as being stunned or a flash KO. Your stories are horrifying btw.
Ah. Role-model material right here. I came by your channel just today via one of those female self-defence parodies. I needed a bit of cheap (but timely) humour. Happy that I went on to check some more of your videos though. As a Psychology student and a prospective martial artist, I find this sort of first-person account very interesting.
man...this was intense. your honesty and the moments, the experiences you lived which are quite detrimental for a man.. I don't know.. I just respect you...
I saw the time and was curious how long does it take to explain a knockout. Now I'm here wishing the video was longer. This is amazing work. Thank you, you really opened my perspective on things. No flashy openings, no fake acts, just the truth.
I've been knocked out a couple of times, first time playing lunchtime rugby ran into a tackle, I was in darkness in my mind with no awareness of anything wondering where I was then I thought I've been knocked out wake up, when I did open my eyes it was like I had the biggest hangover ever. Second time I saw a palm strike fend coming (didn't feel it hit) and I woke up hitting the ground( no headache). Third time I got choked out, choke was across the throat as well as a blood choke, felt like I was being killed don't remember going out but woke up with a huge headache. Third time was at boxing sparring, didn't go down but must have got clicked out for a second as it was like waking up from a great night's sleep to find a guy punching you and trying to work out WTF is going on here. Fourth time was doing something called rangiki where you have mma gloves on you face each other in a semi horse stance( not allowed to move from here), find a range where both can land shots and go at it, I got hit with something, it was like if you turn an old TV off and on, went black and that little white dot and on again, no headache didn't go down, I hate long comments too
I love your slower delivery and the pauses. It allows me to actually process the information you're throwing out there. I can't focus so easily on heavily edited vids. Puts things in a new perspective to know that whenever you like or reply to a comment you're actually sitting on the toilet!! Cheers ;)
I remember being dazed, and recovering, and when I was dazed, and thinking what had happened. It really was not so bad. People need to understand to absorb damage instead of take it. Role with the punch.
I think I got knocked out once. Just messing around with friends who had gloves. Caught a good left behind the temple just above the ear. Felt like my head left my head. Like a rubber band being stretched out in one direction. At the peak of the stretch my vision shut off and came back on. Then the other end of the rubber band got let go and my actual head caught up to where it felt like my head was with a snap. I stumbled side ways, torso turning toward the ground and caught myself from full on slamming into it with my hands (like a really deep push up). Now the way my friends told me it after, is that he made contact and I stood there leaning for about 10-15 seconds wide eyed, looking dead ahead, with a blank face (as if I was trying to see something behind them). Then I lost my balance and just sort of auto piloted my way to the ground... Kinda wish there was video of that. Must have looked pretty damn funny.
Dude great vid- I’ve never been flatlined but a couple flash knockdowns in sparring - the way you discuss these experiences, completely without ego, is amazing. And as other commented your voice is great too! Thank you so much.
I've been knocked out 1 time kickboxing during sparring. Got rocked by a kick to the head, could barely stand for a few seconds then recovered. I was new to kickboxing and thought I tripped but looking back I was clearly rocked badly. Stupidly I continued and later got knocked out by a right hook (about 10 minutes after I got rocked). There is no pain at all being knocked out. I literally didn't even know that I was knocked out. One second I was sparring one person then the next I was sparring someone else. I have 0 memory of what happened in between. I only remember people looking at me strange and that's the only way that I knew something happened. My friend told me that he saw me on one knee facing the floor (no memory of this) and after I kept asking him what happened even though he told me many times again and again the information wouldn't sink in. About a hour after being knocked out I was sick many times and felt very ill for a few hours. I can only describe this as having a hangover, it's very similar (which may suggest how bad alcohol is for us) Lesson for all in martial arts: If you get rocked in sparring bite your pride and call it a day and save yourself because once you have been rocked you are more pone to being knocked out. I wish I did just that.
I don’t even fight. I have so much respect for martial artists and I’m only an armchair sports psychologist.. You seem like such a good person. God Bless you for your videos. One just popped up on my feed and I’ve watched ever since
I've been knocked out a good few times. Most were 🤔 momentary. The last time I ended up waking up right as I was falling. Managed to double leg takedown and mounted him. I'm nursing a fractured jaw right now because of that punch. The times where I've been properly knocked out I woke up and didn't really remember anything. The times where I've been out for a split second I can remember. Usually felt like a truck hitting me.
I'm not really into Martial Arts, but I'm subscribed to this channel. For some reason it always feels like I'm having a conversation with Ramsey in his videos even if i'm not talking. I really enjoy these videos and the stories.
Thank you very much for making this amazing video , you answered my question perfectly and i enjoyed you giving us alittle bit more background info about why you are doing youtube Ps:ramsey why dont you monetize your videos so that you'll be able to fix your blind spot in the future?
huge respect ramsey , you open up , tell things like they were... no bs .. and u swallow ur pride.. im a fan .. i hope that one day i can meet you for train.. keep going. amazing work
I didn't know you could actually have your lights punched - on - Human memory is strange. It seems to me that knowing where you were when you learned something is excellent for recalling things. Like all our information has a string of loose associations that all depend on eachother. It seems like finding a route to a place, only sometimes the roads disappear, and we don't know how to get where we were going anymore.
A like is not enough to express our gratitude for you sharing your pain and wisdom with the world and at the end saying ''go out and train'' when you've had so much of it already and still keep that willpower and fighting spirit even thought life has beaten you up pretty badly already, you sir are an inspiration
It doesn't feel like much of anything. One moment I was getting backed into the ropes and the next thing I knew I was seeing the overhead lights as I slowly came to. Got caught clean on the jaw with a shot I didn't see coming and that was that.
Ramsey do you have any students who attend your classes but also attend different martial arts gyms that provide the same classes such as boxing and jiu jitsu? How do you feel about that as a teacher and if there are any that attend other gyms do you feel it benefits them to become a greater fighter even if you teach the same arts in your gym?
Yeah, actually. I have an open door policy at my gym. No politics about where my students can and can’t train. I want them to win fights, and if extra training at another gym is helping them do that, then good. I discussed this issue with my friend Kyle who runs another MMA gym in Shanghai on my last podcast. Give it a listen!
I have been (not professionally) looking at the brain for the last three years or so. Also, I don't have any hard or fast opinions regarding politics, or religion or philosophy - particularly with philosophy as it seems we ditched a lot of spiritual aspects (lets say) in favour of the material (and there is a reasonable historical context for that - dare I say y'know, like, Nazis, etc). But, we're hear now in the 21st century. And it seems we are moving on from the 'material' - to what I don't know? I mean, studying 'consciousness' as an academic pursuit wasn't considered a serious career choice until the 1990's. I believe we were going down the route of dismissing consciousness? - that's the impression I get. My take is to think about a concept called 'entropy'. Many would say 'entropy' - the second law of thermodynamics - solves a lot of problems about the nature of the cosmos: 'entropy' determines which way physical process procede, which means 'entropy' is what determines (it seems on a fundamental level) which way time itself flows. Otherwise there appears nothing in the laws of physics that prevents a broken cup from spontaneously reforming and jumping up onto a table top (while at the same time you knock another cup off the table and see it smash on the floor). But the thing with entropy is that it is probablistic: things with 'low entropy' are deemed 'ordered' whereas things with 'high entropy' are deemed disordered - but it's more subtle than that... The 'order' or 'disorder' comes from looking at the numebr of possible states a thing can be in. Low entropy things can only be in a few states. While high entropy things can be in many states. A typical example given is something like a chess board of different sizes or sand castles: with a chess board of different sizes (say 2 x 2 squares, or 4 x 4 squares, or the standard 8 x 8 square chess board) there will be less possible arrangements for the chess pieces on a small board (2 x 2) than a standard board (8 x 8) and so a small board has 'lower entropy' than a standard chess board that has 'higher entropy'. In terms of sand castles (to help explain the chess board example better) - a sand castle contains millions of grains of sand. There are many different arrangements of sand grains you can have to make up a sand castle - but there are many many many more different arrangements of sand grains you can have to make just a plain old heap of sand. I can't really prove that, but I am sure when analysed, you would find much larger arrangements of grains of sand to make a heap of sand than a sand castle (Prof. brain cox says so anyway - so I believe him :P)... ...tying it up: both the small chess board (with its few arrangements of chess pieces) and the sand castle (with its relatively few arrangements of sand grains) are 'rare' states compared with a standard 8 x8 chess board or a regular heap of sand... ...the reason why we have heaps of sand rather than sand castles (or similarly ordered features) appearing in nature is because nature seems to be lazy. Nature tends towards increasing entropy (the second law of thermodynamics described above). And nature does this because, with all the many many more configurations of sand available that go into making a heap of sand than a sand castle (for example), a heap of sand is just the most likely arrangement of sand we are likely to get. ...The more rare something is (the less probable it is) then lower it's entropy is. And generally smaller things tend to be more ordered and have the lowest entropy. Which is why the universe is expanding - i.e. the entropy of the universe is always increasing and so it has to get bigger as a result. But wait a minute? - isn't this suggesting that the universe came into existence purely because (according to the 'big bang theory' of the universe appearing out of a 'singularity' or infinitesimal small point) its starting condition of being very small with very high order (very low entropy) was incredibly rare... if probabilistically IMPOSSIBLE? It would seem to be a paradox??? - the universe exists because it's very existence is impossible? Just to stop rambling and very quickly relate this to consciousness (I've said enough already :P). What about us? - In the grand scheme of things, we are nether small nor big. Ordered or disorered. The very letters I have been using in this comment - according to Claude Shannon - have an average entropy of 2.62 (whatever that means? - in terms of computing it requires an average of 2.62 bits per letter of the english language.. so with this comment, I have used about 4,500 letters [with spaces] which works out at approx 12,000 bits of data). But also we find that the laws of quantum physics for the very small, are not compatible with Einstein's laws of gravity (and space time) which concern the very large. And yet we are in the middle here as well - there appears no concensus regarding the laws of physics for our experiences. Quantum physics doesn't include gravity, with means it doesn't include 'acceleration'. Acceleration is an everyday occurance for human beings and yet - unless using newtons out dated laws - we can't adequately describe it using our laws. By coincidence, the cosmic microwave background radiation left over from the 'big bang' is also in this middle range between the conflicting theories of quantum physics and einsteins laws of gravity. So in conclusion. Everything we consciously experience is built on probabilistic outcomes and doesn't conform to the laws of physics as we currently understand them (there is no unified theory of physics at present). I mean what is something if it occurs by chance? - in a philiosophical sense, what is something if it is probabilistic or based on luck? - is it only definable in terms of the paradox I discussed earlier? I mean just think about that in terms of anxiety - we worry about things because of 'uncertainty'. Without 'anxiety' we wouldn't even be conscious I expect. And yet 'probability' doesn't even seem to be a tangable physical thing in itself - it doesn't seem to be a materialistic concept. Is it spiritual? - you tell me... LOL!!!!
This is irrelavant but Imagine the wicked witch of the west - from The wizard of Oz - when she melts after the bucket of water is thrown over her - but without any clothes on. And older - much older. And a lot rougher to. Disturbing in a way that isn't fantasy. All too real. There - you can think about something else now.
Thank you Ramsey for another excellent video with many words of wisdom. I too was knocked out repeatedly. I experience the same memory issues you describe, including short term memory loss, the need to pause mid conversation, etc which others seem to find awkward. I have had plenty of amnesias and have had recall in reverse (as you mentioned), and intermixed chronological order. I find BJJ training to be therapeutic to brain injury (and my PTSD) as there is so much to learn and remember, and that builds my memory skills especially muscle memory. All the while I am learning self defence skills and confidence that may make a difference should I again be attacked. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise, and your humanity.
I just spent like three hours watching your videos after stumbling into this dude. The cluttering writing system was among the most useful, I had no idea that was a thing, I just naturally did that when writing short stories or poems or whatever since it made the most sense, it feels like making a skeleton then adding random muscle groups then rearranging like a collage then adding skin etc. etc. I feel like I got punched in the interior of my mind I related so hard to that. Easiest subscription to a channel in my life.
RAMSEY, It looked like you were fighting your EVIL TWIN in the video! LoL.😂😂 IN MY EXPERIENCE, besides the memory loss and time displacement, at the MOMENT, IF, I was clipped on the side of the head, there was a CONSTANT BUZZING-RINGING (ear drum damage). Also, when the LIGHTS GO OUT in a KO, there is often FLASHES of LIGHT like fireworks. These are BRAIN CELLS DYING. Then the weird hallucinations are the brains attempt to get back in control of a limp body--yet not "computing" what happened, as it s running on subconscious autopilot. Like a laptop one drops down a flight of stairs and is cracked badly, that tries to start despite the hardware being damaged (brain). LASTLY, the after effects include painful cluster head aches, debilitating migraines, sometimes speech loss (words you know but can't verbalize), which only get worse with time, as the mucus membrane protecting your brain, the jell padding between your brain when your skull (cerebrospinal fluid) was damaged, and continues to thin out as one ages.
Never heard of you but as someone who suffered a brain injury I felt yours words greatly. Particularly the end. Much love you're a pleasure to listen to :).

Me too
The closest I got to being knocked out was the first time sparring with my teacher.
What does him being a Marine have to do with anything?

I was knocked out in a full contact taekwondo national sparring fight brutal fights old school. I was out only for a few minutes but it was very very weird.

Mad respect for you man! Really hope i dont ever have to experience injuries like that.
Oh, and for you people that say traditional martial arts doesn’t work, I’ve been knocked out by a spinning forearm.
blockmasterscott I gatta be honest... you perfectly described getting knocked out on an old boxing game I had on a game console 😂😂😂

That was my first loss, and the only time I was stunned in a fight.

Thank you.

You're terrific, Ramsey. Thank you for sharing and bless you.

Precious teaching in the last few seconds of this video, Thank You and Respect!

I find that pausing and taking the time to talk helps a lot, like "re-organizing my thoughts", but people seems to get frustrated, so I totally get what you're saying :)
Now, back to the important info: I have two days to catch up with 3 podcasts. Wish me luck. :D
As always, I love your feedback! As far as cluttering is concerned, when I learned what it was, it got a lot easier to control, and much easier to express myself vocally. Good luck with the podcasts!
That’s a thing?! I do that all the time!
Yep :D when it started they told me "it's just stress, I'll be gone in a couple of days" (it was right before my finals). 17 years later it's still going XD
One time I was drunk at a party and the big homie sucker punched me I was drunk ,i woke up looked at my face wondering if I got in a fight .i call my friend ASAP he tells me the big homie knocked me out with a 4 lpunch combo and my whole body went stiff then my head hit the ground even harder then the punches themselves so I guess I got double knocked out
I think I’m retarded now idk can’t tell
Very well said, man. Love your reasoning and philosophy.
You are such a good man in every way
The people that left you laying there for 40 minutes deserve to get bashed man, thanks for sharing your stories 🥊
I didn't know knockout was so serious & damaging !!!
This is an amazing video, inspiring, I am not just talking about the knockout part.
Antropomorphical running refrigerator... WTF???
Watch Requiem for a dream and so should @Ramsey Dewey
"Anthropomorphic"
Attributing human qualities to animals or inanimate objects, iirc.
kickinbackinOC imagine looking that up on google to sound smart
Cube X I Giorno Giovanna have a dream
One of the most chill videos of all time I. Would usually just leave a quarter in videos like these
I think I got knocked out once.
Ps never fought any fighter of the caliber you have - wasn’t trying to act like we on the same level.
I can only describe this as having a hangover, it's very similar (which may suggest how bad alcohol is for us)
Lesson for all in martial arts: If you get rocked in sparring bite your pride and call it a day and save yourself because once you have been rocked you are more pone to being knocked out. I wish I did just that.
Your honesty impresses me! Thanks for sharing that.
You definitely need more Views and likes Ramsey :( Such quality content though
I don’t even fight. I have so much respect for martial artists and I’m only an armchair sports psychologist..
You seem like such a good person. God Bless you for your videos. One just popped up on my feed and I’ve watched ever since
Thanks for sharing. Btw, that school needs to be shut down for doing nothing when you was unconscious for 30 mins
This was an absolutely crazy video. I have gained quite a bit form this. And a lot of respect to you. Thanks
Thank you very much for making this amazing video , you answered my question perfectly and i enjoyed you giving us alittle bit more background info about why you are doing youtube
Ps:ramsey why dont you monetize your videos so that you'll be able to fix your blind spot in the future?
You’re welcome! My account actually just got approved for monetization yesterday, after waiting for approval for years and years.
good question mate
Ramsey Dewey oh great best of luck ramsey let's just hope youtube doesn't demonetize you for no reaso.
huge respect ramsey , you open up , tell things like they were... no bs .. and u swallow ur pride.. im a fan .. i hope that one day i can meet you for train.. keep going. amazing work
Your voice would be perfect for explaining the secrets of the universe; Quantum Physics, Einstein's Field Equations, Thermodynamics and so on. 🙂
You are so incredibly intelligent!!!! It’s so interesting to watch your videos! Thank you! ❤️
Thank you!
Holy shit, you have a cool voice!! I wanna hear you say "..Two all beef patties.. two slices of cheese..." etc
Thank you for being so open about this Ramsey. Enjoy and learn a lot from ur content. Thank you.
I didn't know you could actually have your lights punched - on -
Human memory is strange.
You’re amazing
One of the most inspiring videos I have ever watched.
Thanks for sharing
Good video, Ramsey. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us. God bless you. 😊👍
LOL!!!!
Your comment burned my brain
This is irrelavant but Imagine the wicked witch of the west - from The wizard of Oz - when she melts after the bucket of water is thrown over her - but without any clothes on. And older - much older. And a lot rougher to. Disturbing in a way that isn't fantasy. All too real. There - you can think about something else now.
That poor witch. I havent seen that movie tho, I am from Norway.
They say being knocked out feels like falling in love for the first time.
Plop Olp feels bad man
Punch-Drunk Love
Is love supposed to feel like an eternity of the best sleep you'd ever had or ever will have? Granted, I was choked out, not knocked out.
??? but breaking up feels worse....
Falling in love with the ground.
I was knocked out by a tackle that I had dreamed years earlier
I was smiling like an idiot
thank you very much for sharing sir. keep on having a good healthy mind and good attitude. falling down is worthy if u grow from it. respect.
You should work for the radio
Always great videos. Just listening to your calm philosophy is relaxing and causes a positive process of self reflection. Thanks!
I got knocked out by a stinky breath once... I lost my sense of smell...
I really like how you take your time to properly explain in a slow and very understanding way what you mean.
Reading my comment on the toilet
I’m reading this comment on the toilet right now!
Seriously,
I just came from a concert and taking a nice and relaxing dump .
This one is one of your best, most personal video imo.
RAMSEY, It looked like you were fighting your EVIL TWIN in the video! LoL.😂😂
IN MY EXPERIENCE, besides the memory loss and time displacement, at the MOMENT, IF, I was clipped on the side of the head, there was a CONSTANT BUZZING-RINGING (ear drum damage).
*Knockedinn't*
Brendan Jackson thank you
how could anyone dislike this video, it was one of the most interesting and self awakening videos ive ever watched, and to others it might be just some guy ranting but for me it was him opening my eyes to things ive never thought abt
