It baffles me as to why Eddie Hazel is rarely mentioned in music circles by anyone except the most avid guitarists. I never hear non musicians (music fans) talk about him. That's a crime! He should be as well known as Hendrix, Clapton, Vaughan, etc. He was a blues guitarist through and through, but managed to blend his blues style into the funk music of Parliament and make it sound phenomenal!
Eddie Hazel is criminally underrated. That tone and groove is so beautiful to listen to and savor. Eddie out there, painting fucking rainbows with that guitar. Sheer euphoric bliss!!
This is what it's all about. The groove and feel is as good as it gets. Eddie is ripping it yet playing with brilliant control within that irresistible back beat. Nothing like it today.

There is a tendency for certain people to dismiss Michael Hampton as inferior to Eddie Hazel, like you can't have two bad ass brothers on stage, let alone maybe three or four. George Clinton said that himself "they don't really want to acknowledge that there is more than one bad brother up there, they gotta pick only one". If you listen to all the FUNKADELIC guitarist they have different styles. Eddie was very soulful, Michael is more rock "Blackbyrd" can get jazz fusionist on a MF. When I lived in Sherman Oaks I met Eddie at the liquor store and he was riding his bike and he and I started talking and I invited him to come over since I lived next door and that started a friendship that lasted until the day he moved back to New Jersey . But guess what for the first week or so I did not know what he did and so I finally asked him and he told me and then later I was in his apt and a guitar was sitting in it's stand so I asked him to play for me and he picked it up and picked on it for 15 sec and put it back. Well I still did not know anything about him and it was not until after his death that I started researching him and I came to this conclusion and that is I am a dumb ass . I had him as a friend in the palm of my hand and I never questioned him hard enough for him to tell me all about himself. Because if I had I would have taken the steps to video him and photograph him and make a documentary about his life but I just did not know and I have been sad ever since. I can tell you he was a damn cool guy and I loved having him as a friend and I miss my friend today

Well I still did not know anything about him and it was not until after his death that I started researching him and I came to this conclusion and that is I am a dumb ass . I had him as a friend in the palm of my hand and I never questioned him hard enough for him to tell me all about himself. Because if I had I would have taken the steps to video him and photograph him and make a documentary about his life but I just did not know and I have been sad ever since. I can tell you he was a damn cool guy and I loved having him as a friend and I miss my friend today
