I use bins like that for litter box. My dog was always trying to get into the litter, so I used the cover and I put a hole in the top. It's too high for the dog to get his head in and reach down to the poop. The cats climb on top of it and just go down into the hole. You can make little vent holes around the sides too. I also line the inside with a cheap tray to keep it easier to clean. I keep them next to outlets where I have those little motion sensor night lights, so when the cats go in it lights up for them. Works out well.
This is a great way to get around kitties who stand up to pee, also for multi-cat households. I've been doing this for a very long time. But this is way over-engineered. It takes me 5 mins to cut an opening. The cat doesn't care if the entrance is in the middle, and neither do I - it's a giant litter box, right. I keep my entry a lot smaller than this so there's less opening for litter to be kicked out. Yes, leave the bottom of the opening low enough for a senior cat to step over, but high enough for plenty of litter. I use a hairdryer (to soften the plastic) and a utility knife for a beautiful clean, smooth cut and curved corners. When you get these totes warm enough they cut like butter. I haven't ever needed the top - in fact I leave them in the store. (His 'burnt up plastic' is a non issue with a hairdryer and utility knife.)👍
I would have instead made the entrance a large hole at one end. With the square cut I still see the cat possibly facing the wall and peeing outside the square cut.
Yeah, it happens. But oddly enough only very rarely. I have always had a 'stander' or two over the decades and only a handful of accidents. But every cat is an individual - and that's why we love these quirky creatures and invite them and their toilets into our homes! 👍❤️❤️
Just FYI - never place multiple litter boxes in one room. You're wasting the additional toileting space because the cats will view those boxes as a SINGLE toileting area.
These are great but that being said if your cat is raising his behind higher up to pee you might need to have his kidneys and bladder checked for UTI as sometimes they have this issue an it stings and burns when they pee causing them to raise their behind up higher and that does not need to go unchecked just saying. But I do love these boxes that you made.❤
Always good to have any behavioral changes in the litter box checked by the vet! 👍 But a lot of boy kitties do stand-up to pee. And I don't mean spraying.
I used the same large bin for kitty box, but I cut a hole about midway on one end. I Just used a steak knife!! My kitty moves litter like shes digging for treasure 😮 ! No more flying litter around. Wish I'd of thought of this years ago! 😊
A bit, yes. Those corners where the wheels are on the bottom are a pain to scoop. They'll pee in those corners and sometimes you can't get it in one scoop ya gotta dig around it a little.
Yes, it can be. But these are a game changer, especially if you are dealing with a standing kitty. Clay-based litters are harder to clean in any box and are definitely more difficult to get out of those channels, but it's not bad. I've switched to corn based litter: it's easy on the elbow, doesn't create a gooey sludge in the bottom of the box and doesn't stick to the plastic so adamantly. If I want to cut costs I can even mix clumping clay with corn-based litter and still be happy.
My outside Cat Got Injured and has a bad Recovering arm, i made the same before seeing the video and i was thinking i was the only one lol, so i made two holes on mine, one like the one you made and the other at the end because he has a bad arm, he kept rubbing it on his poo and kept having to clean him and floor mats/ floor, etc when i only had a hole on the side when i first cut it, so with two hole he can back up and safely cover his poop with litter without him getting covered in poop, Really Recommend it and it holds a good amount of Poop, i only recommend two holes for injured and claustrophobic cats as the box keeps the smell down and the more its open the more smells can get out, but its not too bad if you know how to manage your box, Props for the Video!!
Great, thanks for asking! I probably could’ve went with a smaller box. They’re so big when it comes time to change out the litter and clean them it can be a little awkward. But my one cat hasn’t been able to pee over the side yet! Haha 👌
Not good when trying to scoop! I made a couple of these in the past and because of the shape of the bottom of the box it was hard to get the urine out. If you can find one that is flat on the bottom and corners then that is best
If my last comment didn’t show up due to copy & paste, it’s from “Victorian garden cattery” “The original” is what the vid is called. Reply to let me know. Again, will save your own sanity, time, tons of $$$, and your kitties health. Reply to let me know if you made it your own, which I’ll bet you’ll do. 😊
Very true, you could do that if you want to. It would be easier too. Thing is some of our cats at the filming of this video were 17 years old and always used open litter boxes so we thought they'd be freaked out haha.

Glad to hear! And less mess is always great!
i beat scooping might be bit awkward due to the grooves on the bottom.

TY ❤ I guarantee my cat will hold her butt over the doorway onto the floor haha 😂
Thank you for video. I have one cat that stands to pee.
Ughh, I can relate. One of my boys aims for the ceiling! Haha
Because we all have a sawz all.

How is it working out????

@@KevinMeyers83Do they throw the litter out the front door?
@@simplypositivemefor the most part, no. Once in a blue moon they’ll make a mess

you need a lot more boxes according to one utuber she said 2 boxes per cat.
This is good only if the house is " Large"
Why cut the top it looks better with no one seeing in the cats have privacy as well

Some cats won't use a covered litter box. How could you not know this!
thank you soooooooooooooooooooooo much! i have 6 cats.......................with boxes set up in an unused entry
Glad I could help!
Those would be really nice if they didn't have a side cut out.
So leave the lid on the tote and make it a top entry box! 🤷♀️
❤❤❤❤❤
Would not make a good teacher. Explanation too talky.
