oh really? how many safety recalls have you had to fix? My 2018 RTL had a total of 5. You're unhappy about over 20 mpg in a PU truck that weighs 4,500 lbs and has a 3.5L V6?! FYI - even a Tacoma 4cyl RWD gets worse mileage. Even a Maverick 4wd gets only 25mpg combined. @@1ST_PERSONSHOOTER So far, I haven't reset the tripometer since I bought it and I'm at an average of 20.7 for both city and highway. I've done more miles on the highway. I admit though, the first 100 miles I wasn't driving carefully and was at like 17 with mostly city.
2017 Ridgeline had a little -known Service Bulletin for flickering lights (headlights, interior). Took the service tech for a drive, pointed it out to him, and of course he failed to see what I saw. I went back to the stealership with the Honda bulletin in hand and they fixed it.
Thanks again for the great video! So far what major maintenance you had so far with your Ridgeline? Like timing belt replacement? Transmission issues or anything like that? Thanks!
I believe the 2020 models already had a few safety recalls. Only use 89+ octane and dump in fuel injector cleaner in there every few months since there is a defect in your engine where around 50k your fuel injectors will clog when you get the dreaded check engine light illuminate.
Nice...OCD'ing on the wires tho my guy. I'd get a 2 port USB adapter for the 12v, and run the wires under the passenger floor mat, thru the A-pillar--stuff it with some folded napkins to keep the wires from coming out the headboard. That's just me tho. Thanks for the high mileage insight!
My 2006 had 750000 km before the rear sub frame rusted out. Engine, drivetrain and exhaust was all original. My 2017 is not going to fare as well. Had too replace the injectors to resolve code issues. At 208000 it would appear the torque converter is going. Replaced rear 4 wheel drive harness and rear diff motor twice now. Love the truck just not happy with the costs of maintenance.

Never knew that there’s a Honda pick up truck. Its probably because its not available here in South east asia. Nice truck and pretty reliable as well 200k miles in 3 yrs is a lot.
They’re interesting vehicles. Based off the Honda Pilot & Passport, with a Unibody design instead of a traditional body-on-frame design. Gives a large SUV feel to it.
127k on my 2018 rtle, I have the p0741 code, had fuel injectors done at 35k. I like the little truck but I hate how much it has cost me in maintenance. Probably my last Honda especially with the transmission issue. Loved all my other Hondas, this one being the most expensive is also the worse one I have ever had.
I have a question. What good this truck for with such a short truck bed? You cant haul 8x4, you cant even put two motorcycles up there. What is the utility of this truck?
Honestly it’s been good with a couple 7 foot shelves with the tailgate down, a mattress, some shingles, and it’s seen some bags and such for road trips. I know they do have an accessory which keeps the end of the bed blocked with the tailgate down so you can load bikes or ATV’s on there.
I have a 2019 Ridgeline and I haul 4’ x 8’ sheets all the time. With the gate down, an 8 footer will stick out about 18” but that isn’t a problem for me. The only issue is if you back up, your rear camera is now looking at the ground and telling you you are too close!
I see the car seat base in the back. How is the room for the kidos in the back. I have one in a baby carrier like yourself and another in a forward facing? Did you have to move your seat up for them to fit?
The room is pretty good! My seat isn’t all the way back so there’s good room for the seat. Only thing I’ll probably change soon are the rear door hinges to the refreshed Ridgeline ones. Doors will open much further
Look up the Alex on Autos review of the Ridgeline from 2017, he demonstrated the ability to put 3 car seats in the rear, any combo of forward or rear facing. I have had 2 car seats in mine starting with a rear and front facing, and now onto their high-backed boosters (big Graco units) and there is room for my six-foot tall self to sit in between them. Without the car seats, I can have the front seat adjusted for myself to have my legs pretty relaxed and still have plenty of knee room in the rear if I sit behind my seat. Not surprising given the Honda has the largest cab dimensions of any mid-sized truck, it is almost identical in size to a Silverado double-cab.
oh man, great point! yep, big problem with Torque converters on the 2017-2020 models!! This is a honda yes, but honda reliability for ridgeline sucks - also check out all the safety recalls on it.
My 2018 Ridgeline Back Edition has 131,000 miles. I’ve had fuel injectors changed via warranty and 39,000 miles and I had a torque converter change (Honda paid for half the cost) at 110,000 miles. Other than the higher maintenance intervals as compared to my Tacoma it’s a good truck.
That's a shame... Honda issued a service-bulletin back in Sept. for the problematic 6AT tranny extending the warranty 6yr/120k, I think. I got rid of it once the tranny was replaced, because the new tranny was probably the same crap.
It drives soooo much better than a body-on-frame truck. Much better cornering, ride, and overall handling. AWD is awesome in the snow as well - as good or better than any of my Subaru's. The only people who hate on them are people who don't own them. Just about every owner will tell you they love it - including me. I have a 21 RTL-E. My 2018 Honda Ridgeline had 5 safety recalls, made noises and was in the shop for 10 days and honda couldn't find the source and said just keep driving it it may wear down (which 5,000 miles it did) - also, the 2017-2019 ridgelines have a defect with the engines where fuel injectors are pushed in to far and clog up. Many blogs talk about this and around 50k miles i had to get mine fully replaced because check-engine emission light came on. Lots of folks have this issue. Also the 2017-2019 power train (transmission) is used on the ridgleine/odessy and pilot all have many issues with failing between 50k-70k and it costs about 5k repair. I got rid of my 2018 honda ridgeline this January of 2023 and traded it in for a Mazda. I don't miss it at all, A few weeks after dumping it i got an email of yet another recall regarding tailgate camera. So happy don't have to bring that dang thing back into the shop to waste hours for another warrenty repair. Anyway, Honda Civics and the Honda CRV have different teams and they are reliable, for me the Honda Ridgeline had the most recalls then any vehicle i ever owned and I had zero confidence it was going to last. I really love these trucks. I was thinking about buying one brand new, as one dealer in my area is about 3,000 under MSRP. Just some concerns i have: Ive heard they can have transmission problems?? Also would have to think about disabling the cylinder deactivation. Also ive heard owners reported problems with the fuel system? And as a do it myselfer, i hate hate hate the location of the oil filter. But overall i really like the Ridgeline. Oh i almost forgot, timing belt and water pump replacement are pretty much a $1,500 bill every 105,000 miles.
I haven’t had any issues with mine yet, only being a 6 speed. Keeping on top of transmission services, and making sure the cooler is still in good shape would be my recommendation. The cylinder deactivation I haven’t thought much about it. My guess is there are chips and/or tunes out there to keep it from happening, similar to what people do with their GM trucks. Overall the truck’s been great!
Timing belts have all been up to date. When I got this, it was serviced as well. They typically last 60-100,000 miles (96,000-160,000) as they aren’t as durable as a chain.
Youre newer but with 30k more miles then mine! Will stop using soon, just finished new k swap into my other car, so ridgebutt will get a rebuilt engine, tranny, etc!
Oh, and how many safety recalls did you take care of so far? The 2017-2019 are plaqued with issues - fuel inectors will clog around 45-50k even if you get that honda recommended fuel injector cleaning done (i did and mine still clogged - due to the well know engine defect). Your transmission sucks and numerous issues with it, as long as you don't hual much or drive it hard you may get a good life out of it, if you tow or load up the bed - it's just a matter of time. Oh, have you had to change the battery yet? it is so much fun to do on the ridgeline (being sarcastic).
Your title is wrong. It should say High KM and not mileage. 238km is only 145 miles. I don't even consider that a high miles on a Ridgeline. Only 1/3:way there to be considered as high miles. In order to get to 238 km. You must have replaced your timing belt at least once?
A lot of these exterior items mentioned do not correlate with mileage. They correlate with time which is only 3 years old and look as they should. 230k miles definitely correlate with internal items like engine and transmission
Luckily the engine and transmission both haven’t had any issues. I’m hoping this can make it to 300 without any oil burning issues or slippage. Haven’t seen any symptoms or other failures. Drive modes did great for the snow and spring melting. As for the exterior, the salt on the roads can be brutal, so I’m hoping the previous owner also undercoated the truck as well.

I have only one complaint about my 2022 Honda Ridgeline, the sheet metal is unbelievably prone to door dings. The slightest touch will cause a dent. Other than that, it’s an amazing vehicle.
My 07 Tundra SR5 has 287k, still going strong. I worked pipeline jobs. On really cold days it would idle all day, on hot days idle all day for 9 years. Maintenance is key.

55K on my 2017 RTL. Damn thing is just solid and hard to find something to complain about.
oh really? how many safety recalls have you had to fix? My 2018 RTL had a total of 5. Also, if you are in icey weather make sure you put blue tape over your gas cap because there is no cover on it like on the 2021 models +, so when it rains and then the rain freezes you go to fill up and your gas port breaks on you and you have to take it to honda to sit in the shop for 4 days waiting on a part just isn't fun. Honda cheaped out on that design on the 2017-2019 models and has a lot of issues with that and it was reported to honda by several dealerships having customers with that problem, but they never did a recall for it.

Picked up a 23 Ridgeline RTL just last week. I'm really happy with the purchase other than the gas mileage. I haven't owned a pickup before this.
You're unhappy about over 20 mpg in a PU truck that weighs 4,500 lbs and has a 3.5L V6?! FYI - even a Tacoma 4cyl RWD gets worse mileage. Even a Maverick 4wd gets only 25mpg combined. Have you sat in one of those? Has about as much room inside as an 84 Mazda B2200. Your Ridgeline is about as fuel efficient as a truck is going to get that has a gas engine.

Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this great video! What year is your Ridgeline? Did you add any mods like the S-VCM muzzler or the IdleStopper? Thanks!
Thank you, I actually have a relatively low mileage, 2020 Ridgeline. 26,000 miles, and I hope to get many many more.
I believe the 2020 models already had a few safety recalls. Only use 89+ octane and dump in fuel injector cleaner in there every few months since there is a defect in your engine where around 50k your fuel injectors will clog when you get the dreaded check engine light illuminate.
Yup, good luck with that.
I own an 06 and 14 with 563 and 264,000 km..bulletproof vehicles..best i have owned in 40 years.
I’ll assume the timing chain has been replaced, maintenance item.
I’d be interested to know how much that service cost.
Awesome trucks
It doesn't have a timing chain. It's belt driven. However, it's between 800-1200 US dollars for the service, depending on the shop and dealership.
That's a really nice truck, and in great condition. Which is nice to see.
Has the timing belt been replaced yet? I heard it's recommended at 100k miles but some have gone over 200k miles without the change.
No issues with the cylinder deactivation system? Did you perform the 105000 timing belt/ water pump/serpentine belt recommended maintenance? I have a 2006 I bought new with 92000 miles. It does not have cylinder deactivation so I want to keep it as long as I can.

Gives a large SUV feel to it.
you are lucky - it sucks.
I wonder if the 2020+ Ridgeline 9spd can produce the same?
I wonder the same. That 9 speed transmission is my primary concern.
That engine cover is partially for sound insulation, it’s a little bit quieter with it on. I do not know if it necessarily protects anything?
It protects your eyes from seeing one of the ugliest intake manifolds in automotive history.

127k on my 2018 rtle, I have the p0741 code, had fuel injectors done at 35k. I like the little truck but I hate how much it has cost me in maintenance. Probably my last Honda especially with the transmission issue. Loved all my other Hondas, this one being the most expensive is also the worse one I have ever had.
the fuel injector should have been covered by a recall
Have you had transmission issues ?
I got 75k on my 2017.
How’s your torque converter holding up.
oh man, great point! yep, big problem with Torque converters on the 2017-2020 models!! This is a honda yes, but honda reliability for ridgeline sucks - also check out all the safety recalls on it.
Lol, yeah, only a miserly 48k for me ;(
How has the oil consumption been?
My 2018 Ridgeline Back Edition has 131,000 miles. I’ve had fuel injectors changed via warranty and 39,000 miles and I had a torque converter change (Honda paid for half the cost) at 110,000 miles. Other than the higher maintenance intervals as compared to my Tacoma it’s a good truck.
I find myself with the same code, did Honda fuss over splitting the cost ?
That's a shame... Honda issued a service-bulletin back in Sept. for the problematic 6AT tranny extending the warranty 6yr/120k, I think. I got rid of it once the tranny was replaced, because the new tranny was probably the same crap.
Any rattles or vibrations in the interior while driving? This is pretty common for a high mileage vehicle.
Nothing yet honestly. Anything that rattles just ends up being a pair of sunglasses or empty water bottles lol
How does it drive? I've been eyeing this model since it debuted in 2017. All we drive in my family are Hondas and Acuras.
It's awesome to drive. Actually a pleasure to drive. Love my Ridgey!
It’s great! Smooth, handles well, haven’t had any issues with it whatsoever.
Plus, the vibe of this rig fits me better than other midsize offerings. Even with the facelift (which is a great improvment IMHO), it's not trying to look "tough". It's not a kids toy.

How do you find the ZF 9 speed on the 23? I’m not much into the push-button shifter but it seems cool they added that to newer models.
Any info on timing belt changes and mileage?
Timing belts have all been up to date. When I got this, it was serviced as well. They typically last 60-100,000 miles (96,000-160,000) as they aren’t as durable as a chain.

The heater in this truck sucks and kills your gas mileage since it has to be on "Hi" 24/7 in the winter. Everything else has been great.
Only if you use the "AUTO" feature. I run it in windshield defrost / feet heat with the fan on on 1 or 2 and only change it for summer A/C, or I hit the defrost button for a minute or two if the inside is getting foggy. I live in Seattle where the humidity is 100% Nov thru Apr so I know it works.
