The thing about the Irish jersey is so true though. I had a friend who used to go to France every year and got quite annoyed at the French when he tried to speak to them asking if they spoke English (he was asking in French). They would feign not understanding him. So I told him to add "je suis Irlandais" at the start of the sentence, and everyone would speak back to him in English, not a bother 😁🤣

Hahaha, I wondered how long it would be for the original, German sketch to develop into a new series! Not long at all apparently 😂 The good thing is, it’s another great one lads!
00:44 Very accurate and there is a very interesting reason for this phenomenon. When the Norman conquest happened in 1066, the language of the courts became French until the Pleading in English Act in 1362 when English began to appear in court circles more, making way for English literature such as the Canterbury Tales to be created and celebrated in formal circles. French was very gradually phased out, however many French "posh" words stuck, so some people would still use the French vocabulary whilst others used the English Anglo-Saxon vocabulary, leading to the dual vocabulary we still see today. And as you say, the French way to say all these words is still seen as fancy, even to this day! My favourite example is pork (French porc) and swine (German Schwein).
And this is why, as a French, I'm learning German on a phone set up in English. My prior knowledge of both French and English helps a lot to guess the meaning of a lot of words. Not all, but enough to be a fun exercise.
The disparity between the meat and the animal is due to peasants rearing the meat to sell for nobles to eat. Think Robin Hood. Anglo-Saxon vs Anglo-Norman.

Glad you could go 🤩
Must've been so fun!
I watched this sketch and now I am need of a turtleneck, a glass of wine, glasses, and a constantly choked throat to clear obsessively 😂
Instructions were unclear; you are actually French now.
@@SamFAHntha oh mon Dieu
@@ananyachatterjee197 I have no idea what you said but congratulations, or I'm sorry
Super sketch, comme d'habitude! Cheers from a French fan!
What I learnt about Oxford from that gig, is that Oxford can’t catch or throw. 😅
Spanish next - careful with “embarazada”. 😂
**Sigh**
Due to foreseen circumstances well within my control, I will be watching this sketch approximately 15 thousand times tonight and sharing it with all my friends. Your fault for doing a great job and being so funny. I mean Disneyland??? Come on, that's hilarious. Yep, that's right, this is my SlamFAHntha era. And you know what? I'm not even sorry. Ha, take THAT! 😏💅
(thank you, is what I mean)
Arms: Hey Foil, do you remember the sketch we shot yesterday?
F: No!
Hog: What were those random "french" words you had to learn once and never used again?
F: Do you mean table, cable, faible or voyage, garage, courage, homage, hostage,...
Foil's memory has a very picky bouncer. 😆
Did you change your username after my comment? 🥺
@@SamFAHnthaSure did. I laughed my head off, when I saw it, so I just had to. Love a good nickname. I have a few, but this one is golden. Sammy's, I mean Philomena's nickname stage. 😂
@@JeleFili_savage_Filipomena Hahaha you've made my day.
The eternal fear of The Irishman Abroad: being mistaken for an Englishman. 😬😬😬😬😬
I swear this is my comfort channel. You never disappointed lads.
They've got a different word for EVERYTHING!
To think I've not started on French because I thought it was difficult. This has allayed my concerns! Thanks FAH! 🎉
So you are saying if you had been a French group, we had to call you Foil Bras and (H)og? 😂
Risqué, lads, a risqué thing to put in your sketch 🤣
That ending was a very nice twist
The reason many fancy words in English are French is due to French being the language of the upper class following the Norman conquest while the masses spoke English
What I'm learning here is that Foil is a professional bullshitter 🤔 He's very good at it!
So we are risking our lives for craic, eh? 😂
😂 I wonder where he got that degree and how much it was😅
@@Ensign_Roque remember when he was la bullshat's apprentice? 😆
@@Ensign_Roque Clown College. 12 grand. Which would mean he has 3 degrees!
@@ananyachatterjee197 'L'art de La Bullshat', also 12 grand.
I'm sure hog will have no problem at all "speaking like a snob"!
Brilliant!!
Ha ha ha...Nice. Very funny. I hope you guys do this one for learning other languages. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
As a French girl, you nailed it!
Happy Thursday to you Marine! 😊
No-one will top Kenneth Williams’ Crêpe Suzette song for this scenario.
🇫🇷 You nailed it guys ✅👌👏 Bravo 😂
Anne (French teacher, 28 years in Dublin)
Learning French is super-easy, barely an inconvenience!
"Just speak like a snob!" Kind of ominous, coming from Hog... Is this a prequel sketch?
Brilliant!! Ya did it again, boys!! 😂 👏👏👏
Now I badly want another Snob sketch.
I'd feel sorry for them but... they did this to themselves.
PS me too!
Guys, you might have unironically got me through my French exam that I have in a few days. Thanks.
Morning Philomenas and other people
Good morning, Fellowmena..
