This interview of Sam by Holly Newson was excellent. Sam revealed a deep insight into the events that shaped him. He shows respect for the lessons of his own past, despite the professional setbacks and personal challenges. He is introspective, sensitive, persevering, good humored and genuine. He’s constantly done interviews and promotional events around the world over the last decade, and he does them very well, no matter the circumstances, but this was one of the GOOD ones!

The book is great. He's very vulnerable and honest about the ups and downs of becoming an actor and the lessons along the way. Pages 137/138 brought tears to my eyes. Such a humble man and great actor.

Lovely interview surrounding your Waypoints book. I just finished reading it yesterday, and was so touched by your personal struggles on the West Highland Trail, with family issues, and with getting established in your acting career. You are an inspiration to us all of us creatives who chase our dreams seriously. It would appear that you have managed both acting career success as well as starting your Sassenach liquor business with quality products on offer to keep income coming in when Outlander ends and you are on hiatus between new projects. Your hard work, planning, and effort have finally gotten you to a great place with artistic and financial success.
I mentor a lot of younger creatives starting out on their life adventures, so I will share how I managed my creative path. I did something similar when I wanted to be a jewelry and enameling artist, but needed to balance my need to be a creative while addressing the need to have a steady income to support myself in the real world while developing and improving my craft. While my early practical career options were eclectic like yours (included waiting tables, working in a real estate multiple listing service office, and medical assistant and administrator among other things), I eventually ended up in Development at a local public broadcasting station and beginning with my skills in the computer sciences to initiate a much-needed overhaul of their dinosaur era TV pledge, thank-you gift product inventory and audience services system with new Apple technology and making it more flexible in on-air situations. The PBS station and I also felled fewer forests of trees replacing giant paper reports with a relational database online system that was more useful and efficient. Once my new management system was adapted and fine-tuned by their upper management, caught the attention of their head office in Washington DC, and upper management there expanded my methods nationally after being developed for seven years, and my update project with PBS was finished, I began my own computer consultancy business in the middle of the hot technology boom. Now, I work with many local Boston MA area businesses, the military, and non-profits to improve their public outreach via technology as well. I also participate in lectures nationally and worldwide on technology creation, creative website design, and internet security in an environment rife with expanding unwelcome malware. My technology lectures have taken me twice to Glasgow in 1995 and again in 2005, with a possible third lecture series and a side trip to visit the Edinburgh Festival and Fringe events later in 2024. My company and I have kept me more than solvent for decades, and I have the flexibility and income to continue with my metal making and enameling work as well. Like your Mom Chrissie, whom I was introduced to in 2005 at an art gallery while vacationing in Edinburgh for the Festival, my creative jewelry and decorative artwork appears in galleries, at exhibitions, and in sales in shops, as well as getting interested inquiries for acquisition of some of my work at my local art museum. It sounds like your lifeplan is following a similar path and will continue to bring you future success and artistic fulfillment as well.

Sam’s autobiography ‘Waypoints’ on Audio is a very open and candid insight into his life from an early age to the present day, I was completely hooked from day one, I was spellbound for seven hours and lost all track of time, listening to his soft distinctive accent describing the Scottish Highlands I found myself transported to a time I spent on ‘Loch Lomond’ some thirty years ago, the only difference was I wasn’t drenched from head to foot in pouring rain, and ready to call it a day, I knew Sam has an inner determination to succeed and he did magnificently! by the end of his journey I was sad to see him disappear into the Highland mist, but thankfully he wasn’t alone he had made friends along the way albeit fleeting at times, with a lovely young lady named Lucy! who apparently had never heard of Jamie Fraser the ‘King of Men’ or ‘Outlander’ this is a very nice informative chat with Sam Holly, thank you 🙏 for sharing it with us 🤗

Hi Blue, don’t think we have bears in England any more! can’t remember seeing them in the Wild life Parks in Scotland only Wolves 🐺 I know what you mean about ants 🐜 we have plenty of those! It’s strange when we have such an intriguing guy like Sam, I was thinking while I followed him on Audio book ‘The West highland Way’ with great enthusiasm, when it got dark I was hoping he wouldn’t pitch his tent ⛺️ on something undesirable, instead of wishing I was in there with him 😅 naughty nana! 🥴

OMG you guys cracked me up for a hit minute. But where I live we do have alligators and bears and snakes...oh my!
As I listened all I. Could envision was What If.... I had recently listened to a vid documentary about Missing 911. Variety of ppl who just up and disappeared... mainly in Vast State parks and wilderness areas. In US Canada new Zealand etc. Issues were some returned days or months later is very strange circumstances but NO memory!! Wearing other clothing etc often in other cities or countries. Some never were found. But they were right NEXT to someone when the just literally DISAPPEARED.
So I thought wow .. glad this didn't happen to Sam. I used to camp in open areas... But now. I'm not so sure about it. It seems to be confined to wilderness places.
The person who wrote the book was retired police and familiar with investigations. Very credible. He was being interviewed. Hope Sam is more cautious in future endeavors like this ... But nevertheless I hope to eventually listen to his audio soon. 🍷

LOL, he thinks he's an ancient Heilander but really he's just another city kid. Sam, stop BEFORE dark to set up camp. You don't want to wake up in the morning and find you've pitched that tent over an ant hill, or a generous leaving of bear scat.

    • @GalwayGirl1

@@GalwayGirl1 As I understand, there are not supposed to be any bears in Scotland, so a pile of scat (meaning the bear is nearby) would leave me worried some. But! Since I live where bears are common in the places one might camp, I think I would prefer bears to ants, though I don't want that scat under the tent with me, especially if it's fresh. We do have a breed of large biting red ant, though not the famous fire ants they have in the South. So I put up camp before the sun goes down. Makes finding firewood easier too.😄🤭

@@Blue-rl5dp No, there are no big predators like bears or wolves in Scotland. The greatest danger probably actually comes from an anthill. But You don't have it easy when you go camping in your highlands with bears and biting red ants.
