Wonderful lofted pass for the first goal by Barnes. What a footballer.

The game is so different now. Look at the Leeds fans at 7:38 applauding Liverpool’s fourth goal. It’s not just a few people either, you can hear quite a lot of applause on the VT. How times have changed!

Was at this game. Didn’t applaud myself but I think by that stage you just had to admire the football. John Barnes was unplayable.
I can only remember Leeds fans applauding an opposition goal once before. The goal in question was scored by Roy Wegerlie (hope I spelt his name correctly) for QPR. He beat half the Leeds team before sticking ball in net.

I don't know why they didn't keep this team together after Kenny quit. It was still pretty much as good as Arsenal, just marginally Arsenal were better - but that was due to Hansen retiring. They only needed a Centre back or two. And a decent GK.

I was very young when this match took place and remember it. First of all, when Barnes scored the fourth goal, the Leeds fans stood up to applause, don't think this was mentioned in this highlights package but should be mentioned. Also, this match sums up Liverpool's problems over an almost 30 year period. Brilliant going forward but suspect defensively. This was an issue as well in the mid to late 1990s with David James in goal and again recently with Brendan Rogers and Jurgen Klopp.
One thing Liverpool can always say, through the generations they play some of the best football the world has seen, whether they win big trophies or not, a nice tradition to have.
By the way, Barnes, Beardsley, Houghton, Rush, what an attacking combination back then.

I was in the kop well pissed off at half time and so glad I wasn't one of the numb skulls who left then. We may have lost, but it was still one of the finest games I've ever had the fortune to see in the flesh.

Some beautiful passers of the ball on display here. Molby, Houghton, Beardsley, McAllister, Strachan....
I wonder how many of them would even get a sniff at a top flight club these days. Not being able to do the 100m dash in 9.5 seconds seems to be more important than accurate, incisive passing ability now sadly.

16 years old and I was there. Liverpool were an awesome team and they ripped us apart the first half. What an amazing second half we were treated to. I am biased but the Leeds United days from around 87 to 92 were the best days. Even better than the champions league challenge and team from around 2000. Obviously I wasn't born in the Revie era.

If this match is played in 2016, one of the two teams wins 3-0 simply because there wouldn't be enough players left on the field for the game to go on due to all the red cards that would be handed out. David Batty would probably be the first to go.
Back then the ref wasn't even giving fouls for tackles and challenges that would be a straight red today not to mention the victim would be writhing in agony as if a raging bull has just flattened them.
