I have both Fenders and a $100 Squier just like yours and noticed the same thing, the cheap Squier sounds good and feels good with light attack and lowered pickups, I guess if I want more dynamics I can throw in some new pickups, otherwise it’s just a bit different, no problem, time to practice. Thanks for the advice!

Since then i have played Ibanez and Schecter guitars but lately ive been thinking about getting a Fender. I prefer the Fender MIJ. As a real gear head, I agree 100% on simply leaving it as is. I had a period where I had a musical "drought" as I call it and just lost allot of motivation to play. Living situation changed and wound up having to borrow some random pawn shop guitar from a friend (brand Jay Tursor, no idea beyond that). After setting this guitar up with fresh strings and a needed setup, I was pleasantly surprised to hear how little difference there was vs between this and some of my higher priced instruments. Sure, there was a difference but not one that I could even justify making in crazy modifications unless it just "the one" or had a deep rooted sentimental reason.
Tell me what you think about this but personally I believe ALL guitarists should learn how to do proper but basic setups (neck straightness, string height, intonation, pickup height) as I feel this gives one a different appreciation for their instrument but also can really teach you about the quality of one instrument vs the other. Perhaps it's just the side of music culture I'm on, but whenever I talk to people about this it seems like I'm speaking another language, or worst case scenario, they said they "set it up" and the string radius flattens out int he middle... Ugh. I could ramble on.
Anyways, loving the videos! It keeps me inspired to keep at learning... I spent most of my time just playing Van Halen style but I'm incredibly burnt out on wondering why my parts never "gel" together (lack of chord relation or simply bored of hearing overplayed fifths). Blah, I'll leave it at that lol. Have a good one!

So I don't know anything about this guitar and I was struggling with some instabilities and getting frustrated from time to time, but I recently realized that it's all about technique and the tone is in the fingers. Hey I started when I was 11 and I learned from power chords and bar chords and I've been playing for 15 years now and I can really play well...but I'll tell you...if I knew then what Ive learned from this guy in the last three weeks I'd be ten times the musician I am today. He has the right amount of theory to feeling ratio when playing or teaching. But it's always smart to know WHAT you are playing like Tomo advises in his videos and Not just memorizing. Goals and achievements come with endless hours of hard work...mainly because music is almost like life...there's so many alleys you can go down...and hell you can even make your own alleys with music. So just explore and practice right. You'll do great!

Haven't modded it and I probably wont. I hate modding and only do it to get a broken guitar to work if it doesn't work. If i get it cheap and somethings wrong ill fix it then upgrade it since im already working on it.

This is great !!! Could have bought a MIJ Squier in '85 but didn't like the neck radius (had a '75 Strat).
These were like $349 then. Bought an Arbor 'woodstock' I still have. Flatter neck and fatter tone. I think $260 with a HSC.
Sq, $12/1400. Arbor, maybe $50 now. to quote Obituary "I Really Don't Care"..
ha, last guitar I bought I paid $75.00 for, New, DeltaTone HSS, almost 10 years ago. cherry finish on the back that turns to a cool CSB. I just play at home now but this has more playing time than the other 9 I own.

    • @TomoFujitaMusic
      @TomoFujitaMusic  4 роки тому +8

Startocaster is very versatile for pickup choices and the body shape! (great for improving your techniques) Telecaster has more distinctive tone from only two pickups. You would play more rear pickup which is very special tone! You cannot get from Stratocaster. So I would recommend Telecaster!

I LOVE the way you check a guitar - no shredding like a madman and complicated licks like you see in stores. Usually I play open chords, bar chords very slowly - almost arpeggio, to hear each note ringing out. But your sequence of chords is better - I will try to learn it.
For the records, I have 30+ guitars. Including Squiers and MIA Fenders. The worst playing is the Tele MIA Deluxe. One of the best is a Squier Strat Affinity. Same applies to Gibson vs Epiphone. Lots of issues with the brand new Gibson (proudly made in USA) - all fine with the far East Pis - that do sound absolutely GREAT and came perfect out of the box. Unfortunately too many people are fascinated by the label, and not by the object they hold in their hands.

How come you didn't play the squier like you did the other?
I understand how it makes you play different, because of the dynamics. But I think you should of played the squier with the same attitude, the same enthusiasm, as you did the fender Japan guitar.
To me, you are being unfair and biased towards the squier. Of course, everyone is going to choose the fender Japan. Just asking cause I expected an honest comparison. That's not what I saw.
But I really do appreciate that you say that you have to work on your touch, rather than to change things on the guitar. That is very wise knowledge. I dig that approach.
Maybe you should of played the squier with the same touch as you have on the fender Japan, so we could hear the dynamics that you are referring to. Good video but it lacked on a true comparison.
Not bring a prick or something, just giving my opinion on what I thought on it
