This Series will focus on the teachings and Preachings of Maha Swami brought out through a family of four generations. So it is a Series on Periyavaa linked by this family. The head of the family BAPURAJAPURAM BALAKRISHNA SASTRIGAL had been with Maha Periyavaa since 1960 and follows HIS footsteps meticulously.
'PERIYAVAA' series will provide an insight into the life of KANCHI MAHAN, HIS Upadesams, HIS untiring efforts to reinstate SANATHANA DHARMA, VEDA SAMRAKHANAM and also highlight HIS views on varied subjects including art & culture, science, politics and how a human being should conduct himself in his day to day life!
The highlight of this Series is almost all the artistes are facing the camera for the first time!
The series will focus on the seer who is believed to be the REINCARNATION OF LORD PARAMASIVAN himself, having descended on the Earth to propagate Sanathana Dharma and lead humanity to the path of righteousness.
The prime aim of the Series will be to highlight the purpose of HIS being on this Universe and what HE lived for, rather than capturing the miracles attributed to HIM.
The series is to be totally funded by the Rasikas with their contributions
This is, therefore, an earnest appeal to all the Devotees of Maha Periyavaa to come forward and contribute ‘Yatha Shakthi’ and ensure that the lofty ideals fructify.

In my humblest opinion the showing of Periyawa touching his nose , should be very sparingly displayed. Every episode need not have it. Everyone has some shortcomings or the other, but we do not pinpoint it everytime. The focus should be on his tapas, vairagya, in Tamil," Aram", etc . He always emphasised on following our Dharma, etc.

Father said the family to goto Kanchi by night train and left for Trichy . Before they left the house to catch the train , next telegram came which was from mutt.

Doesn't mother needs to permit? That was told in Adi Shankara's story rt... Appo Inga amma kitta sollama how they did this...

The question is: shouldn't the boy taking sanyasa get explicit permission from his mother before doing so? That was what Adi Shankara Himself did - isn't it there in His story that a crocodile caught Him in the river and He asked His mother to allow Him to take sanyasa at the time? If Adi Shankara had to take permission, isn't it the same for others? Here, mother's permission has been intentionally not taken illaya... She was asked to come in another vehicle!
She never said you should not go... Which mother will tell her son this? Also, this is not explicit permission... illaya?

In “ What life has taught me”, an article by Periyavaa ( in Bhavan’s journal), narrates : “In the beginning of the year 1907, when I was studying in a Christian Mission School at Tindivanam, a town in the South Arcot District, I heard one day that the Sankaracharya of Kamakoti Peetha who was amidst us in our town in the previous year, attained siddhi at Kalavai, a village about 10 miles from Arcot and 25 miles from Kanchipuram. Information was received that a maternal cousin of mine who, after some study in Rig Veda, had joined the camp of the Acharya offering his services to him, was installed on the Peetha.
He was the only son of the widowed and destitute sister of my mother and there was not a soul in the camp to console her. At this juncture, my father who was a Supervisor of Schools in the Tindivanam Taluk, planned to proceed with his family to Kalavai, some 60 miles from Tindivanam in his own bullock cart. But on account of an educational conference at Trichinopoly, he cancelled the program.
My mother with myself and other children started for Kalavai to console her sister on her son assuming the Sannyasa Asrama. We traveled by rail to Kanchipuram, and halted at the Sankaracharya Mutt there. I had my ablutions at the Kumara Koshta Tiratha. A carriage of the Mutt has come there from Kalavai with persons to buy articles for the Maha Pooja on the 10th day after the passing away of the late Acharya Paramaguru. But one of them, a hereditary maistri of Mutt, asked me to accompany him. A separate cart was engaged for the rest of the family to follow me.
During our journey, the maistri hinted to met that I might not return home and that the rest of my life might have to be spent in the Mutt itself. At first I thought that my elder cousin having become the Head of the Mutt, it might have been his wish that I was to live with him. I was then only 13 years of age and so I wondered as to what use I might be to him in the institution.
But the maistri gradually began to clarify as miles rolled on, that the Acharya, my cousin in the Poorvashram, had fever which developed into delirium and that was why I was being separated from the family to be quickly taken to Kalavai. He told me that he was commissioned to go to Tindivanam and fetch me, but he was able to meet me at Kanchipuram itself. I was stunned by this unexpected turn of events. I lay in a kneeling posture in the cart itself if shocked as I was, repeating Rama Rama, the only spiritual prayer I knew, during the rest of the journey.
My mother and the other children some time later only to find that instead of her mission of consoling her sister, she herself was placed in the state of having to be consoled by someone else.”
Here no mentioning of whether permission from parents was taken or not.
But in “Sage of Kanchi “ TMP Mahadevan mentions the permission from father was taken by sending a telegram to Trichy. ( In case of Adi Sankara , since his father was already no more only mother’s permission was required).
But in his book SVS mentions that after leaving his mother in Kanchi mutt, Swaminathan took a bus to Kalavai. ( If I remember correctly the first omnibus services was started by TV Sundaram Iyenger in only 1912).🤔
@@kvs6830 sir but some Upanishads say that one must obtain permission from parents, spouse, children if one wants to attain sanyasa. Amma ta keta othuka maata nu kekama irukalama... Is that allowed? Or is it like an inner drive where if one wants to become sanyasi, he need not ask permission from anyone but his own self? More clarity would be good. Appo appa permission mattum edhuku...
