Music video by Tame Impala performing Elephant. (C) 2012 Modular Recordings
My father heard this and said he didn't remember hearing this particular song back in the late 60's when he was in his early 20's. He was surprised to know that the lead singer - Kevin Parker - is even younger than I am. That's how good these guys are; my dad thought they were an old psychedelic 60's band that he'd forgotten about during Woodstock.
The lead singer is actually the one who writes and plays all of the instruments on the albums, the rest of the band is only for live shows
Sounding like it’s an old song doesn’t necessarily mean the song will be good. It could be absolute trash and sound like the sixties. Not that this particular song is bad, just that your reasoning why it’s good is wrong
@@books2438 odds of songs sucking back then is significantly smaller than them sucking now. And even if that wasn’t the case, the biggest difference is in theme. Back then, songs could speak of anything. Now, 90% of them speak of sex.
Absolutely, so powerful and strong lyricists and melody makers. They really encapsulated the '70s psych rock sound deftly without sounding trite. Very authentic and real. They could have had anyone fooled!
@@books2438 meh
Man the drummer Kevin Parker is so good. I also love their guitarist Kevin Parker, but while the bass is pretty good and Kevin Parker is very talented. The vocals by Kevin Parker are the best part by far

He is his own band
I love how the bass and drums thud along like it’s an elephant walking

Tame Impala is so good, Kevin Parker’s decade old songs get covered and they get #1 in the hottest 100.
Thanks wiggles,I have a new band to discover!!!!!
I like the Wiggles' version better!!
@@bcgibson22 are you 5 years old?
@@AJ-oj5eu I like the Wiggles’ version better as well they smashed it it’s not surprising that they topped Triple J’s Hottest 100 I actually voted for them sometimes a cover version of song can sound better than the original version and the version that topped the Hottest 100 is a perfect example of that
@@59771006 the wiggles are a children's band. I assume you are a grown up? If so , you and people like you, need to start acting like one, before it's too late for the world.
Really heavy bass is what makes this song rock.
Dolan Kang That and the excellent psychedelic tangent the song takes @ 1:10 to 2:44
Guitar is actually what makes that bass sound because of how much fuzz its using
All going to tape, just past the red. That has a lot to do with it.
Listen to 7Horse meth lab zoso sticker and Numb by Gary something
the bass is like magic, never stops , keeps going.
The music video looks exactly how I thought it would look after hearing the audio. Something infectious about that bassline. We don't need choruses when the bassline hits THAT GOOD
We need more music like this today
If you like adventurous music without a chorus, check out Metropolis Part I by Dream Theater.
Yea eighth note droning is fabulous and super infectious
You're gonna LOVE the original Dr Who theme then....
Bbng classics even some demarco and soy Pablo can take me away without lyrics
This song was an experience live! Loved it! It felt like a psychedelic dream. Best show I have ever seen live!
Right, that's what I feel with this kind of music. Psychedelic vibes
Yes!!! Live is amazing
This is sick as hell. Like their newer stuff is great but this is a instant classic. What a gem

Great to see someone like Parker to recreate the psychedelic music of the 60s I grew up with. Parker is a musical genius to blend so many diverse sounds.Really mind bending.

The first time I heard Tame Impala was 2015. Elephant was on the radio. I assumed it was some John Lennon deep cut I had never heard. I pulled over and googled "John Lennon elephant song" and then laughed my ass off when I learned it wasn't him. Then I discovered one of my favorite bands ever.
One of the most underrated songs to this day!
I can't explain how incredible this song and album is while tripping
Ted Gallegos haha, no, please do explain!
Ted Gallegos yeah, but so is most stuff. I have some curtains you absolutely must try.
I can only imagine brother
its fucking great. first time i was introduced to them i was tripping. love my woke friends
Don't get me started on the music video
Finally! I've found a current band with that late 60s/early 70s psychedelic rock vibe that I love! I'm so pumped to listen to the rest of their music!!

This sounds like it was released in 1972
It even looks like
that's the best of this album, sounds so latest sixties, from another dimension
Thats why its so great
tis' why it's so good!
It’s like there’s a string tied between current time and the 70’s it’s wild
sounds like that one wiggles song
Take your Like and get out 😂
They forgot that fruit salad bit though
yummy yummy
😂😂😂😂😂
😂
The Rickenbacker guitar and the Hofner bass are just a wonderful delight haha
Ok, so just heard this for the first time, and am trying to remember when I've ever needed to hear a song like this more. It's good to know that music will never die
Sounds like if zeppelin and floyd came together and got John Lennon to sing
With a little Black Sabbath chucked in for good measure.
and add a little sprinkle of Kyuss on top of it
cream?
No, I prefer it black, like my men.
and for the drum the white stripes or jack white
✨ *LYRICS* ✨
Well, he feels like an elephant
Shaking his big grey trunk for the hell of it
He knows that you're dreaming about being loved by him.
Too bad your chances are slim
And it's not like mister shook to get shy when they ask him who is on top
There must be something deep down in the dark down there
He's not too easily scared
He's got friends but they got fear
Wouldn't care too much if he just disappeared
Oh, look see there he is now coming down the stairs
Here he comes
He pulled the mirrors off his Cadillac
'Cause he doesn't like it looking like he looks back
He talks like his opinion is a simple fact
Somebody grabbed his collar
He cried the whole way home
No one been remembered a thing when they saw him again
That's how it is 'til the end
Yeah
💯🔥🔥🔥🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 lol I feel it
Thank you very much
That line about the mirrors gets me every time.
You forgot the bit that goes "fruit salad, yummy yummy".
you forgot the bridge where they go FRUIT SALAD! YUMMY YUMMY
1:13 is the greatest sound this band has ever concocted
tama impale my beloved
this is like psyched/stoner rock mixed with electronic pop and it's amazing
Listening after hearing the Wiggles cover on like a version. Wiggles absolutely smashed it!

Yesss
Fruit salad
Smashed it like mashed potatoes !!
Same here. Wiggles did an amazing cover
It's like John Lennon was resurrected and featured as a surprise celebrity at a rave concert..priceless
For real tho. It sounds like him
I didn't know I wanted that to happen now.
Definitely John Lennonesq
KEVIN PARKER IS JOHN LENNON’S REINCARNATE
not really. Why even compare it?
It's all about those backbeat "YEAAA-" sound clips.
Masterpiece, simply flawless! Love also those filters, wondering which ones. Hall of fame
Honestly just here checking to see if tame impala did the 'fruit salad yummy yummy' part that the wiggles did
I’d say I’m disappointed but it’s actually a cool song regardless
I was half expecting it here 1:10
They didn't need to, because this is the original version. The Wiggles covered it and spliced "Fruit Salad" (one of the Wiggles songs) into it.
Ummm... I wasted my time checking wiggles... This is not about the music is it? This is like Puddles singing MCR >:-(

What's so cool about this, is that this song is around 15 years old and they just started using it for a car commercial! Classics never die! They live forever!
i just wanna point some stuff out, the bassist uses a paul mcartney bass, the guitarist uses a john lennon 60's style guitar, the drummer uses a jazz setup kinda drum set kinda like ringo, the singer sounds alot like john lennon and they are clearly on acid
I thought he sounded a lot like John Lennon too when I first listened to them but now Kevin just sounds like Kevin and John sounds like John. I see the similarities though

There are already a lot of great comments about this song BUT watching Kevin perform this LIVE at a concert is unlike anything you can hear at home, etc. no matter what kind of drugs you're on. It's a completely different and AMAZING experience.
