So many of you are missing the point. This is a handicapped room. Having the toilet close for a wheelchair bound traveler is important, and needed. The shared toilets down the hall are not accessible.
Were you able to get in the cabin in elec chair? Was it tight trying to maneuver into the room? Could you get around train in chair or stay in room for duration of trip?
Dated a guy who was disabled, and we both agreed that these accommodations should be used and available for those who need it. BBBUUUTTT we also agreed that hotels, trains, plains, etc should just make these places more spacious period. He did not like being treated or looked at as different due to his disability. The Justice Dept and Amtrak have worked well together to get the trains and the stations to be complaint with the ADA. It is great to see the better rooms, but the addition of better access to the trains is really important. It’s great that they are working together to make real changes. Fixing the stations, makes the use of these sleepers a reality for many wheelchair users.
please remember that this is not just a fancy, "upgrade" to your other options. this is for disabled people, not able-bodied people who want more room. we need these accommodations and can't get them if other people who don't need it use it.
Thank you for clarifying that. It makes sense. I hadn’t thought about that. I wonder if they let people booking, know that? I mean in hindsight now I realize that makes sense but honestly I just thought of it as an upgrade at first 😬 That would be awkward. Again, thanks. 😊👍
But remember also, if no disabled person purchases them within 2 weeks of the trains departure time, I believe it has always been Amtrak policy to sell them to anyone
When our daughter was 5 we booked a roomette to go from New York to Florida. I packed sheets because I had no idea how fancy the ride would be. Our attendant was amazing and set up the beds for us as well as keeping the snacks in the hall fully stocked. My husband had the top bunk, and our daughter was small enough for us to share the bottom bunk. During the day, the toilet lid doubled as a seat. The meals were definitely restaurant quality. It felt like we were on the Orient Express. Wish we had a room like this at the time, but our trip was 23 years ago. Thanks for the tour!
Thank you so much for this! Traveling with a wheelchair or other accessibility needs has HUGE risks for us! (I especially appreciate the measuring tape use!) It's hard when booking a hotel or trip and wondering, will my husband be able to get everywhere? Will he be able to use a bathroom when needed? What kind of shower accommodations are available? And more. Most people don't even need to worry about "Will I be able to use the toilet or shower at my destination?" because *of course* they'll be able to use the toilet. I'm glad these rooms and room tours are available to help us know what we can expect :)
I am disabled, and would LOVE this room! So much easier for me to maneuver and manage, especially on this Viewliner (?), where the dining car is on the same level! I have trouble with stairs.
25 years ago I went cross country via amtrak. I loved it. As my mobility worsened, I feared those days were over forever. Thank you for the video. I see its still possible for me!! Does a power chair fit in these rooms?
Make sure the accommodations are similar to this… I traveled from Boston to Louisiana once and the single sleeper was out of the 1940’s! I found the conductor and showed him the brochure that was similar to this and he told me what did I expect? I got my money back….and a free ride.✌🏾
As a power wheelchair user the unenclosed toilet on the viewliner 2 car featured in this video looks far easier to transfer onto than the enclosed toilet on a viewliner 1 car.
Thank you for doing this video. I use a walker, but still have problems walking. There is no space for a walker in coach, and worse , no space in a room. This would definitely be the best and most comfortable option for numerous reasons for me. Thanks again.
This is actually the nicer accessible bedroom the one's on the superliner are smaller and don't have a shower. The other thing is they bring you all your meals since the dining car isn't accessible. The superliner also doesn't have the larger size bed either. It's important to have that room when you're traveling as someone who has a disability because depending on what you have going on you may need various items in the bed plus room for changing with assistance ect.
PLEASE PLEASE remind your viewers and yourselves NOT to book this or any accessible room unless you actually need it or are disabled. I’m disabled and as a traveler it can be extremely difficult, one of the biggest challenges is delays because of people using and booking services they don’t need so that when those who need them need them they face delays. If you can book other rooms do that because someone who needs the ADA room can’t book other rooms. The size of the room is to accommodate a wheelchair bound traveler. And make it easy for them to navigate the space alone if need be.
You can’t book these rooms without calling Amtrak and requesting an accessible room, so it’s not really possible for people to book them online just trying to get an upgraded size room.
I rarely have trouble with hotels and asked the AmTrak agent about the availability of rooms that are wheelchair accessible and she indicated it would be very rare if I planned accordingly not to be able to get booked. Sadly many that are wheelchair bound give up, become disgruntled, angry at the world and miss out on a lot of life. However, you want to talk about something that really makes me mad is parking. That’s a whole other subject and total disrespect for those truly handicap vs lazy.
@@DP-awesomeness anything is possible. Thangs that supposedly not possible are done every day. For instance, there are many people that have illegal placards and use them for things like this. Hard to fathom but very true. And very sad.
Oh go to hell. This is the size all the rooms should be. You think that just because a person is abled bodied, we want to slither into broom closet sized spaces? No! These bigger rooms will be booked by all because the standard rooms are too small for anyone. Just like bathroom stalls are too small for everyone.

You have given me another reason to come home and come back to the states I am a dwarf and a ViewLiner is waiting for me... I will post this so my friends of the Little People community have this information as well. Thank you!!!!!
I remember traveling in sleeper cars and the toilets backed up for over 24 hours.. The people who had toilets in their rooms couldn't even stay in their room because of the smell. I was so glad our rooms did not have bathrooms in them.
IF you pull the bed out, there MUST be additional room for the wheelchair to remain in the room. There is a reason why these are "so big" it's to allow WHEELCHAIRS enough space to get in and get out. What you see as "huge" is NOT huge to a disabled person and allows just enough space (for us) to be able to toilet and to sleep. You will be addressing disabled folks, NOT the general public on using these HP sleeper car rooms. And, it shouldn't cost anymore than a regular car because its discriminatory, equal access via the ADA.
I found this channel yesterday, I’ve never been on a train, didn’t even realize I would want to but I’ve binged watched tons of your videos since yesterday just because you are so freaking sweet and Robs cool too I guess 😂 and now a train vacation sounds super cool, you sold me 💖💖

What a pleasant surprise to come across your video. I was just encouraging my parents to take a trip via AmTrack. Your video will be shared with them. Thank you!!!!
I ride Amtrak often. I am a double amputee but have never been able to book a ADA room.....either Viewliner or Superliner. Room looks nice I'd love to get to use one on my next trip. thx
Nice video. Just a few things when you book the accessible bedroom, they bring your meals to you (included in ticket) fhere is not a wide enough space for wheelchair users to go between dinning/ lounge cars. turn down bed service comes with the room so they don't expect wheelchair or accessible passengers to try. The turning radius for wheelchairs is tight. Wheelchair users would want to know these things because of our chair limitations. I was one of the people asking for this video so thank you!❤
Thank you for posting. I have a disabled daughter and I am hoping to go see my oldest son as soon as I am able. I don't know that these rooms are strictly for disabled people however I hope to be able to afford something like this because she's never been able to get out of the state much less ride a train. Between her disabilities and mine hopefully we can go.
Excellent! I believe this is the idea most people have of overnight accommodations on trains (if they have seen them in movies). I wish we had updated trains with this much room in all private cabins. Thank you for taking us along.
Thank you for making this video! I wish more travel channels would make videos on accessibility or at the very least mention if there’s even an accessible option especially in Asia.
Amtrak's Accessible Bedrooms makes traveling with small children who are disabled much easier. There is plenty of room for strollers, extra space for kids to move around and stretch their legs, and privacy for an occasional diaper change. 🙂
That's nice. BUT it's called 'accessible' for a reason. People who NEED accessible rooms CANNOT use the other rooms. Would you use a parking space with the wheelchair symbol on it? No, you wouldn't.
I certainly hope you aren't booking an accessible bedroom just because you have kids. There is usually only a few per train which means every time you do that someone like me literally can't travel. I have 7 kids and get it that travel with kids is hard but you have other options and people like me do not. So please don't do this.

Oh my gosh. How cute is this woman?! Love her comfy, fashionable sleeveless travel ensemble. Wait! There's someone else there filming? Awww...look @ Rob! Adorable. I like these two. I have always wanted to travel by train, but U.S. train travel seems to be quite different than traveling on the Orient Express (not sure if that's a real train) in Europe. This is a very nice room. I think accessible room means handicap. This room is nice, bright, clean, and it looks new. I've seen other Amtrak videos and the sleeping rooms were abysmal. Not a fan of the toilet in the room instead of in its own separate compartment. Is there a sleeping room that has a separate sitting area for reading? Basically I would like to see an Embassy Suites hotel room in an Amtrak sleeping car. Am I being realistic?
Thank you so much! Well, there is a "Bedroom Suite", which is two bedroom rooms put together with a connecting door. That is the biggest you could get on Amtrak.
I had always wanted to travel by train also. Got the opportunity the other year. It was nothing like I had imagined. I wasn't prepared for such a bumpy, shaky, jolting ride. It was a short journey but it felt like the longest ride in the world.
The accessible rooms on superliner like California zephyr the beds are bunkbeds like roomettes the room is big with toilet in room but you dont have the long couch when you close bed they need to make bed like the lakeshore limited

Oh my goodness. This might be my new way of travel because the airplane is just not working for my special needs daughter. The airplane seats just doesn't recline enough but obviously this does and I wouldn't have to leave her alone to go to the bathroom. She could lay down the whole ride. She is quadriplegic, has cerebral palsy & epilepsy. She has titanium rods in her back so sitting to long is a no no. I look forward to trying this way of travel with her. Is there any wifi for internet? Looks fun. I watched 3 of your videos so far & I know as cruise traveler, usually the accessible rooms are bigger than the standard. Thank you for posting this.
These newer rooms with updated furnishings are only available onboard certain Sleeping Cars on the Silver Star and Meteor (New York to Miami). You have given me another reason to come home and come back to the states I am a dwarf and a ViewLiner is waiting for me... I will post this so my friends of the Little People community have this information as well. Thank you!!!!!
Thanks!
Oh my gosh I was laughing out loud watching this video. Thank you for the dimensions, I hope you enjoyed making it as much as we enjoyed watching it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you so much for posting this. This gives me better ideas to travel with my mother.
Thanks for all your detailed, positive, and helpful media💞💞💞
Having a bowel movement in the presence of your family sounds so inviting!
Your family members can go get a cup of coffee or take a walk!
UHMMM IM SURE THE OTHER PERSON CAN LEAVE THE ROOM WHILE U HANDLE UR BUSINESS...ITS NOT AS DIFFICULT AS U THINK.IT IS
Yes , it is called family bonding.
Love it! Thank you both, dear friends!
I remember traveling in sleeper cars and the toilets backed up for over 24 hours.. The people who had toilets in their rooms couldn't even stay in their room because of the smell. I was so glad our rooms did not have bathrooms in them.
Sleepers in the 80/90's looked nothing like that! Just itchy tan blankets!😭💘
We never got a chance to ride one back then!
I found this channel yesterday, I’ve never been on a train, didn’t even realize I would want to but I’ve binged watched tons of your videos since yesterday just because you are so freaking sweet and Robs cool too I guess 😂 and now a train vacation sounds super cool, you sold me 💖💖
Wow, thanks for watching and commenting, we appreciate it!
This is awesome. My daughter is disabled and mobility issues. Now I know what kind of car to get if we travel by train. Thank you!
You are welcome, glad it was helpful!
Superliner Sleepers also have a similar Accessible Bedrooms on the Lower Level
Thank you for this as a mobility challenged person. I would also love to know how to get on the train and off. I love your channel and am a subscriber 😊
The staff will help anyone that needs it, they have a ramp on most trains
This was super helpful. Thanks. All your videos are great!
What a pleasant surprise to come across your video. I was just encouraging my parents to take a trip via AmTrack. Your video will be shared with them. Thank you!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video - you two are adorable together! Loved the measuring tape details - thank you!
Another great video! I’m sorry I missed you in Wilmington. I hope you enjoyed your time!
I ride Amtrak often. I am a double amputee but have never been able to book a ADA room.....either Viewliner or Superliner. Room looks nice I'd love to get to use one on my next trip. thx
You are welcome!
I was one of the people asking for this video so thank you!❤
Thank you for all these videos - excellent service to future travellers!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for doing these videos. I ride Amtrak alot. Thank you again.
Our pleasure!
Amtrak owes you royalties 👍
Thanks!
Hope you get to go!
Another great video...see you soon in The Moynihan Train Lounge!!
Thanks Mac!! You guys are awesome, keep up the good work.
I won't be able to travel without these rooms.needed.more trains need this.
@@FerretKibble My youngest child 🧒 is disabled.
Thank you again for your time.
My Mom is visiting me in NY and I am taking her to Miami on Amtrak Roomette for the first time ever! She doesn't know about it yet tho) I am so excited!
Have a great trip!
@@GroundedLifeTravel Thank you!
If you already took the trip how did you like it and how did your Mom like it.
@@chrisdobrowolski2783 Oh, thank you so much! Yes, we did) My Mom was very excited) Our trip on Amtrak Roomette and Miami was fun and I would do it again!
@@gurvinka That is great that you enjoyed it.
Thank you! I can ride on a view-liner so I’m excited to be able to travel via train!
Thank you from Seattle to LA no shower and not as nice! Lol but love your videos
Amazing video on the Amtrak Accessible Bedroom tour! I just love you two beautiful energy! I will have an opportunity to ride in a accessible bedroom next week I'll be traveling to Atlanta Georgia. Look forward to the experience!❤❤❤
Please tell us how your trip was and thanks.
You can sit on the toilet and read.
You worked hard on this video
This was such a nice little tour of the room! Thank you so much! New sub. I had no idea they had these type of rooms in the train. 😊👍
Thanks for subbing!
Thank you so much for this channel!! I've never travelled on Amtrak, but will definitely start now! Awesome info!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this video!!
Good to know that this exists!
Amazing sharing ❤️
I LIKE IT!! However, i am a huge fan of the Superliner family room!
The accessible rooms on superliner like California zephyr the beds are bunkbeds like roomettes the room is big with toilet in room but you dont have the long couch when you close bed they need to make bed like the lakeshore limited
I just love you guys and enjoy watching the videos. Your voices are so soothing and to cover everything. My husband and I went on 30 cruises and visited about 5 or 6 different islands for a week. We did make it to Alaska after I retired from nursing. Since my husband passed I've not been able to travel plus I started using oxygen 24/7 2 years ago I have a CPAP and I also have to walk with Walker. my question is
Thank you so much! I answered it in your other comment!
Thanks for the tour!!
Great job on the viewing! We have a question: Does Amtrak ever rent out a whole car for someone who is severely disabled and travels with helpers?
I'm not sure about that, but they do put private cars on the back of some trains, if you possibly rent one
@@GroundedLifeTravel Thank you so much for your reply. Very helpful! Can you find out more for us concerning private cars. And their cost to rent?
@@paulinekingmusic5632 from what I see its at'east a few thousand $ per day I think the room in the videep would we be ok for most people
thank you, you are a lot help . next month am traveling from nyc to l.a.
Have fun!
What’s worse? Or which is better: sharing a toilet down the hall with others, or having to constantly be so close to a toilet?
Better to smell your own than someone else's.
Odor can be managed
So the toilet is just right there, i guess the room is for only 1 person??
@@angela.a.martinez7635 Go to the lounge or dining car while the other person goes if you are sharing.
Sharing a toilet with others.. Ew
Love the measuring tape demonstration!!
Thanks!
These newer rooms with updated furnishings are only available onboard certain Sleeping Cars on the Silver Star and Meteor (New York to Miami). All other Viewliner Routes (Crescent: NYC to NOLA | Cardinal: NYC to CHI | Lake Shore Limited: NYC to CHI | Northeast Regional WAS to BOS) will still have older Viewliner I equipment. The new upholstery and design features are only located onboard the newer Viewliner II cars.
Yes, this was the Silver Star
Thank you so much for doing this video. I have taken a Superliner but never a Viewliner. This is the newer equipment which is set up better.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I definitely wanted to see this type of accommodation - thank you. Questions: Do they provide soap and shampoo for guests or do we bring our own supplies? Do they make up the beds and provide blankets, etc.?
Pay attention . You would see all you have asked about. You can always bring what items you feel you want to have with you
@@eileenmcdonald1599 did you have to be sooooo rude? Be nice.
Im pretty impressed!! I've never travelled on the train but have always wanted to! Thanks for this!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks so much for this video. Are you also planning to show a Superliner Accessible room soon?
Yes, soon;-)
What a big room! I will be leaving Monday on my NY to Dallas trip in coach, wish I had this room or even a roomette!
How'd it go? We r planning to go cross country next spring....
The Viewliner II is looking pretty fresh, though... can’t wait for this new interior design to make it’s way across the rest of the rail-fleet
Agreed, we really thought it was nice, upgrades are great!
