The power of Tebaldi - yes. The beauty of Caballé - I would not agree with that. The drama of Callas - almost. Though quite impressive, I find her voice too heavy and dark for Leonora.
@@richat30 Of the three mentioned, only Callas could sing the trills Verdi demanded of Leonora. Tebaldi didn't have a trill. Caballe faked a trill with a funny goat-like bleat. Tamowa almost has a trill but not quite. Listen to Callas here and you hear every trill sung perfectly and molded into the melodic line, not as an ornament, but as an expression of Leonora's anxiety. And listen to the last trill and hear Callas even to a mesa di voce on a trill. I had the pleasure of listening to the incredible Anna in Paris at L'Eglise de Saint Louis in the Verdi Requiem, with Ghiaurov, it was like a private performanceJRT
voce splendida, assolutamente verdiana, ( ma grande anche quando interpreta opere di Mozart) , la sua voce sa essere carica di drammaticità e possiede rare capacità espressive che solo in una voce verdiana ci si aspetta di sentire
Her tone quality is glorious . She has a few pitch problems in the upper register which is a shame , but this is live performance. Every note and word is sung with conviction.
Thank you! In our(Dutch)encyclopedia 1944 is mentioned.I will change that. That makes Anna TS. 46 years when performing here. Her debut was in 1965 , so in 1987 she was still remarkably good, such power! Why do we never hear her name in the range of excellent Leonore's? Strange(?)enough I think Anna Moffo's version of this aria(also on UA-cam)is the best ever, but she never sang the whole opera. The two Anna's score high in this aria, each in their own way. I don't like comparing, just enjoying!

@bodiloto Thankfully I understand Italian, but you should write in English to people who write comments in English. That aside, you are entitled your opinion, but I disagree. She had a very big voice and were absolutely suited to sing Verdi as well as verismo, in my opinion. I do, on the other hand, agree to the fact that she was a great so-called "Mozartian" soprano as well.
@5:08 she struggled to find the pitch, the voice was starting to tired a little bit, on the last not she managed to keep it centered through great diaphragm support but she couldn't quite bring the squillo into it. Other than that, it was a glorious performance!

An amazing Leonora! Combines the power of Tebaldi, the beauty of Caballe, the drama of Callas but all in Anna's own unique way.
