    Looks like my place before I moved 3 years ago..........I dumped over 15 metric tons of TV and Radio Broadcast equipment to the scrap yard and another10 odd tons to the waste recycle centre........I still have 8 40 foot shipping containers of it lol.......I still can't find anything I want when I want it.....
    The really sad thing is we used to have a scrap yard about 30 mins away from my old place, and they used to scrap Tech stuff from tender process's, and there was 6 big AM broadcast station amps siting there.......each one was about 5kw or so, complete with Valves and everything needed to get them going.........I had intentions of going back to pick them up for scrap value, but a couple of months passed, and when I went back they were gone.....not only them....the whole place !!!!.....bloody developers had brought the place and bulldozed the whole place......I was gutted the place was full of great stuff.....all gone.

    • @ElPasoTubeAmps
      @ElPasoTubeAmps  7 років тому

      Wow... too bad there isn't a video of the place you speak of. Crazy the things we love to do and see. To me, the top of the beauty heap, are the big transmitters built with 833A and the such. I guess I was mesmerized by those instruments when I was a kid and was taken to a small AM station in the little town I lived in in Alabama. I remember the call letters as WRAB (Arab, Alabama) I imagine many of those 1960 era AM stations are gone nowadays.

    • @harbselectronicslab3551
      @harbselectronicslab3551 7 років тому +1

      Yeah, it seemed so different the way things were back then.........I was the kid who spend "TV Time" sitting behind the TV set peering in through the slots in the back of the set mesmerised by the glowing valves lol.....it must have shown, because when that TV finally quit my Dad gave it to me as my 5th birthday present with a handful of tools to pull it apart........and to ride my bike around in the bush and find an old radio or something else that contained Valves was like finding a gold nugget......I think my friends thought I was nuts.....they were probably right lol.
      Anyway I ended up a Broadcast Engineer after a few false starts with other jobs, so have been able to pretty much satisfy my craving for electronics.....although that in itself lead to me starting an Outside Broadcast facility which kind of killed the fun to a degree.....to much running around checking everyone else's work.
      I have wound that business down to a large degree now and only do the jobs I want to (used to be 720 OB's a year !)........and am totally enjoying the time to do my thing and even watch guys like yourself and Uncle Doug enjoying what you do......
      Funnily enough I seem to get more pleasure out of fixing Amps, both RF and Audio that anything else, and the odd 2 way / Ham radio as well.
      Anyway enough of me babbling.......yes I kick myself about that scrap place......and a few others due to not being able to get into because of Gov "must destroy contracts" grrrrr I hate that.......there is one place left that I know of.... 5 hours from here. not as good, but still a few gems in the rough ;)

    • @ElPasoTubeAmps
      @ElPasoTubeAmps  7 років тому +1

      Heaven help us, you are as weird as me as I did the same thing wondering what the heck is going on inside the box with all those beautiful tubes. I would ride my bicycle up and down the alleys going through the trash cans of the TV repair shops taking the tubes back in to have them tested. I bet I still have some of those tubes in my stash from 55 years ago.
      I wanted to go into RF or audio but computers was my career and a really good one. I am blessed to have been and seen and done all the things I got to do in a job as a government contractor with all the agencies and military-industrial-contracts.
      There are still gems in the rough to be had and restored so don't ever quit looking... :-)

    Very nice, I thought It was just me filling up my garage with electronic test equipment. As for a hobbyist, not to many years ago, that $$$$$$$ HP test equipment was not obtainable, unless you had very deep pockets. I have been very fortunate to be able to acquired some very good HP stuff these last couple of years. Was that a Heathkit Model IG-5280 RF oscillator? I built a bunch of their kits..

    • @ElPasoTubeAmps
      @ElPasoTubeAmps  7 років тому

      We are very fortunate to be able to pick up this equipment nowadays for prices that we can afford and have much of it still work very well. I can't comment on the Heathkit as I did not notice it. I built Heathkits back in the 1960's also but always wanted better.

    I think that I would personally live there if something like this was available in Australia, to my knowledge this sort of thing doesn't exist down under! It's such a pity that American shipping charges cost more than the product itself.... Australia would clear out that warehouse in two days but government's just don't understand how to get the economy moving forward in the right direction...

    • @ElPasoTubeAmps
      @ElPasoTubeAmps  5 років тому +1

      I agree with you. It is most unfortunate shipping is so expensive between our countries as we are so much alike and so much cheaper shipping between the USA and China.
      I really like the fellow that owns this equipment but he wants so much money for everything and ends up selling such a tiny fraction of it, he is basically a hoarder. That is his right and I respect it but I figure the vast majority of this stuff will end up in the landfill (hopefully much of it recycled) as it is way too expensive for the local buyers to pay. Many other places like this have existed in the past decades but they all end up the same.

    • @PeterMilanovski
      @PeterMilanovski 5 років тому

      ElPaso TubeAmps I wonder if it would work out more cost effective if a shipping container was filled and sent over... did you say that you get free or cheap shipping charges from China? if that's the case then we just have to find a Chinese shipping company who can just forward the parcel... because we get free shipping from China even though it takes a good month to get here... Yeah I don't know LoL but what I do know is that there is a market for this in Australia and no one is servicing it... The first person who makes this happen will have that segment of the market all to themselves..... I have seen other videos of swap meets in the US and the prices are crazy cheap compared with the same thing here IF you can find it LoL... You would think as allies our government's would be looking after all of us! But when did the government's ever actually think about the people who put them there in the first place... The world needs more people like Julian Assange to keep the bastards honest... Anyway, I don't really want to get into the politics... I'm not really into tube amplification but I do appreciate it, I like my solid state T03 transistor powered amplifiers and I see a lot in tube amplifiers that would work in solid state... I just watched your video on using audio line transformers as output transformers... I have been thinking of trying out a transformer coupled output solid state amp... I just have to wrap my head around the impedance of primary and secondary sides to know if I can buy one or wind my own? microwave transformers are cheap and no to hard to rewind... old arc welders have some nice and big transformers.... my son got me an arc welder for father's day and I nearly fell over when I opened it up and saw the transformer inside! It's huge! my first thought was tube amplifier! The welder was only $80AU. you literally couldn't get the transformer on it's own for that price LoL... have you ever rewound a transformer? I haven't seen all your videos yet but I'm slowly getting there one at a time LoL..

      It displays THD and is pretty good. You may be able to use it with the internal sound card of a laptop or PC but it will likely work better with an outboard USB sound unit. Hope this helps.

    Hi David,
    Did you mean when you die and go to HELL, you'll have to fix all of this stuff??? I can just imagine once you get it all repaired, calibrated and cleaned up, everything gets a new hard to find BUG and you have to start over and over and over...
    Oh, you have to repair each piece in place in those tight and dusty isles. All you get to work with is a cheap straight and Phillips screwdriver, a pair of pliers, rusty pocket knife and radio shack VOM with a sticking meter and weak batteries. The floors are covered with screws, nails and other miscellaneous hardware and you are barefoot. All spare parts are questionable, the lighting is poor and it's HOT... HOT as HELL...Hi hi
    Think I'll start going to church more often!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @ElPasoTubeAmps
      @ElPasoTubeAmps  7 років тому

      Glenn, I have to admit, you described it best - an eternal extension of how I have to work on many things now. :-) I think I have the hot as hell covered already in the summer sun of El Paso. I was just up on the roof of a house installing a log periodic antenna for TV so I can cancel the satellite and save some money. At least it is below 100 and overcast a bit - pretty rate for the desert. I hear it is never too late (to attend more church...)
