I'm 24 and hearing you talk about how you felt lost at 23/24 was so validating to hear. It's the worst time honestly lol
EDIT: I did not expect this to blow up so much and resonate with so many people!! I feel so much less alone and I hope you all do too🥲❣

I was a phlebotomist at Quest Diagnostics for 2 years and I can tell you that's a super common response! So sorry you had to do it again! PSA: Quest is not set up to help patients who have issues like this so always plan ahead! There's no numbing spray, there's no pediatric expertise, and the company keeps track of every blood draw time so if the phleb doesn't help a ton, it's because it directly affects their job performance/raises/promotions. There's also no training other than "tell the patient to sit down and call 911" literally that's it. You only need a phleb certification and maybe a state license (depends on the state) so we really aren't equipped to properly help those who need it :/

i’m a medical laboratory scientist and quest, labcorp, etc. sucks major ass on the lab side so it’s so upsetting to hear that it has a negative effect on the patient side as well :(

    • @lo17107
      @lo17107 11 місяців тому

@@Dingdong0130 idk what the issue is with those labs. The labcorp near me was hardly ever open even during work hours because they were super short staffed or there was just nobody that showed up. I had an appointment for blood work that I needed to get done one day and they called me an hour before to cancel it with no explanation, just 'we need to cancel your appointment'. My doctor won't even send blood work orders to Labcorp cause it's so unreliable.
But phlebotomists are life savers. Sometimes it is difficult to get an IV in my veins for some reason and multiple nurses would try for like 20 minutes, then a phlebotomist would coe in and get it done in like under a minute.

I was very sad on my 23rd birthday, not only because the only close friend I had made me feel miserable all the time, and I was trapped in a house with them and my parents, but it was also March 24th, 2020, so it was a very scary and uncertain time, and I had just been sent home to Minnesota early from a college program in Denver, CO, where I was thriving and doing so much, so it literally felt like I woke up from a dream and remembered how mundane my life was. It was awful.
Just 3 years later, I have a close group of friends who know how to set healthy boundaries and communicate well, I'm going to all kinds of events, I'm in my first single (no roommates) apartment, and I'm working towards a healthier lifestyle, both mentally and physically.
So people in their early 20s, when I tell you it gets better, it really does, but you have to do the work to make your life what you want it to be.

Mom instincts definitely don’t come naturally to everyone, so I’m very impressed that you’re taking the initiative to learn all you can. I was sure I knew everything, and even though I think I did great, I still wish I could go back and teach myself everything I know now, and unfortunately that is a perpetual mom feeling. The older you get, the more you know, and the more you want to go back and do everything perfect.

Dude I failed my first glucose test and had to do the 3 hour. And I puked all throughout my pregnancy every single day. That was also the first time I experienced passing out from dehydration. I lost so much weight I was like how am I going to survive this. But now we have a very happy and healthy 8 month old. The first pregnancy is so scary cuz everything your feeling is so new and weird and you never know what to freak out about or if it’s just a normal pregnancy thing that you didn’t know about. I’m so happy and excited for you and Cody and it’s so awesome to see y’all’s journey with this 😊😊😊

All my friends who've been pregnant said they had no issue with it! So I've felt like it was just me. Ugh sorry you had to go through that, but thank you for sharing so I feel less alone. My glucose test was a fucking disaster. I already threw up that morning because I felt incredibly sick. I decided to be sneaky and have a muesli bar because I couldn't have not eaten. I got there and drank the drink. The drink went down fine, I sat down for 45 minutes. My stomach was turning so much and I ran out the front of the pathology clinic and projectile vomited everywhere and peed my pants 😅 I didnt make the hour, so I couldn't continue the test and I went home. It was miserable 😂

My doctor decided to not make me do it again and instead gave me a glucometer and I had to prick my finger for 3 weeks for nothing because I didn't have GD 🤦‍♀ The true joys of pregnancy

Your reaction to that drink you had to take sounds like your body reacted to it as if it were food poisoning or maybe the drink was just full of artificial crap. One time I ate shredded dairy free cheese from daiya on something, and within hours I started to feel adrenaline and like I was having a panic attack and a weird headache. Soon after that I wound up throwing up. I've had it happen to me from store bought pizzas too; I think it's b/c of the preservatives on them. Sometimes our bodies just have intense reactions to preservatives and other fake crap in foods/drinks, not sure if the case with you. Congrats on being pregnant and not diabetic! :)

I get that. Later in the video she said that another test result showed that she’s not actually diabetic, so I was thinking maybe her body reacted intensely for another reason. Like who drinks that much corn syrup or whatever it was, in one sitting? And other people seem to react strongly to the drink too but then turn out to not be diabetic. Regardless, it’s hard to really know what exactly is causing someone’s body to react strong and then for others it’s fine

16 weeks over here and I love hearing what other pregnant people are feeling! I’ve been loving being sober but have also found it hard to be amidst a bunch of drunk people at social events. I usually only end up hanging out for a short time. My husband and I are going to an all inclusive in Mexico for our babymoon (we originally booked it before we were pregnant so we could drink and eat and party) so I’m SUPER nervous for that! But excited to see what it will be like without the alcohol fog.

Have a lactation consultant lined up. You will need help getting your baby to feed properly after birth. Like, have someone secured for the day of your birth if possible. I know that hospitals provide them, but I really suggest getting your own. I used a woman from west LA who has a service called "Best Milk LA." She was awesome. At your consultation, make sure that your consultant can help your baby take to the bottle. Being able to nurse AND bottle-feed your baby will be so critical for you to get rest in those most intense postpartum weeks and months. You want hubs to be able to feed your baby while you get that much needed rest.
Get a really good hands-free pump that can go into your sports bra for pumping on the move and then a hospital-grade electric pump that you can use while sitting down.
Create a nursing chair area, your main nursing spot. You'll be feeding your baby every 2 hours, and you're gonna be constantly thirsty and hungry. Make sure your nursing chair is comfy, reclines (ideally), comes with a foot rest, has a built-in table or can easily set next to a table, where you can easily keep snacks, hydration, your device, a charging area.
I would HIGHLY recommend hiring a postpartum doula, who will just be there to help take care of stuff while you recover. Unless a trusted family or friend can fulfill that role, which is even better.
There will be very little time to cook, at least that was my experience. So set up a meal delivery service, so you won't have to think about meals.
Oh and leggings with pockets. Stock up on those and great nursing tops. You will need so many pockets, all the time.

Omg this comment is so wonderful and informative but also scaring the shit out of me 😂 I’m 4 months pregnant with my first and haven’t thought about any of this!

@@jessicapreston9808 Better to be scared now than after the baby is born. There is so much focus on the pregnancy and the birth, but not enough about the most critical part -- the fourth trimester. I was not prepared enough. I did none of the things that I advise in my comment. I was extremely focused on the birth, which certainly benefited me, because I had a healthy delivery without any interventions. BUT, the weeks that followed were extremely intense, and I wish I had prepared better for those.

My boyfriend and I during like the second year of dating went through a rough patch, just bickering a lot and it got to where we almost were like this is not worth it...which looking back seems wild because he is my best friend and we get along so well now...but his dad is a psychologist so we asked him for a little advice. He told us to, "Listen to respond not to react" and honestly that's just a really great way to look at communication.

Girl literally same on all the pregnancy stuff, I feel so seen!! The glucose test and passing out- you're not the only one! I've never passed out before in my life and the glucose and blood tests really got me for some reason. And then they made me do the 3 hour test anyway!
I also got anxious about kick counts and the best advice I got to mitigate the obsessiveness was WHEN you feel kicks, see if you count 10 in 10 minutes and if you do, everything's probably good (obv do what your doctor says, but if you're having a hard time maybe ask about another way of doing things).
Also, if your hospital baby prep classes are anything like the ones we did, it's good prep but you might have a hard time with the shaken baby awareness videos! They made me really scared that I was going to harm my baby even though in my mind I am very confident I would never do so. It's a very effective caution against letting other people take care of your baby, for sure. Anyway. Love your pregnancy updates! Good luck with all the upcoming prep and baby things!

    Speaking as a mom myself,
don’t put too much energy into the kick counts.
It’s actually a more old school thing not even every OB has you do them.
I was told to feel out baby’s normal movements and how much they personally move.
Dr told me if anything seems off of my baby’s normal then go get checked out.

    • @aylaatwood5009
      @aylaatwood5009 11 місяців тому

Yes! I commented separately about this. My OB told me that some babies don’t move 10 times in 2 hours, which is totally normal, so babies just aren’t as active as others. He said the same thing about me knowing when and how often my baby moves and to go by that. Kinda sad to hear drs are still using kick counts because I know that would have caused me anxiety.

I’ve been a notorious fainter at the doctors for years lol it’s so real that you just disappear into dreamland for what feels like hours. It feels like the best sleep ever and then you wake up and realize you passed out and everything sucks

I’m 35 weeks today! My doctor said I didn’t have to fast with the glucose test. And i 100% know if I didn’t eat I would have been so sick. That’s crazy.
Also with the kicks I was the exact same way!! Was worried but a doctor told me ANY movement counts. And to drink cold water and lay on your left side when you count them. It’s easy to not feel them when we are busy throughout the day! You are doing great mama! 🎉❤

I will be 22 weeks pregnant on Tuesday the 24th of Oct. and I can’t tell you how much I relate to the doctor issues. I have luckily had a very healthy pregnancy but regardless every single doctors appointment I either throw up or almost pass out due to nerves and anxiety. Every other day or time I would be fine, but I’m a wreck there lol. So I know the glucose test is gonna suck ass for me. I’ve had so much fun being on this journey at the same time!! So happy for you! 🖤

Same. It sounds like a terrible suggestion especially for first time parents - you’ll drive yourself nuts trying to get it right. Seems like mom and/or physician will generally have a sense of something isn’t happening as it should at that stage of preg.

Relate to the birthday part soooo much. Every birthday has been so bad for me so I got into this mode of "I don't care, they suck anyway." But I do care. Especially finding someone now that makes them so much better than they ever have been.
