Popeye is at fault for that, however. She was a poor mother and honestly should've been sterilized. If she had been, the monstrosity known as SP wouldn't have ever existed. I'm sure that sounds harsh, but the fact that her failure to properly raise SP resulted in him having a short lifespan just makes me feel like it would've been better had he never even been brought into this world...and not only was he way too old to be nursing, not only was he obese, but he was also a spoiled brat that regularly bullied other juveniles hence why so many of the mothers avoided him and Popeye. They learn how to crack nuts to eat the meat. They also learn what plants to eat when the feel sick. They learn this all from mom sitting there watching. They learn body language and facial expressions what pant hoots are and what they mean. They are not dependant on mom's milk but it is a good source.of protein..

You should be concerned. Because chimp juveniles are much larger than let’s say Maq juveniles the mother does not have enough milk to sustain both and if the juvenile isn’t weaned very soon the baby is in jeopardy of losing weight and becoming Malnourished, if she hasn’t already.

In the wild a chimp mother perhaps wouldn't be having another baby so soon, but if she did, she'd probably wean the bigger kids sooner because of it. But basically, our modern conception that breastfeeding is exclusively only for infants is a relatively new and alien idea that does not comport with our evolutionary history, or the overall evolutionary history of the great apes. The early weaning practiced by humans today is a cultural advent made possible by advances in technology and nutrition.
