- The end of the year- it always seems to sneak up on us. This year I was ‘blessed’ with some forced time off- time well spent resting and reflecting. Today I give you the numbers- how did we do this year?
I’ll be setting some new goals- not resolutions per se- just read listing goals like I did last year this time. I wrote them down and all but two of them came to fruition.
I enjoy being a business owner- I enjoy the freedom, and the flexibility. But most of all I enjoy the hard work and the rewards that come with it.

Jeff, Happy New Year. As you consider a new tractor I am curious on your thoughts for the Norwood Winch. Having seen yours in action I am really interested in adding to a gen1 2032r. Has your opinion changed at all? I understand that a larger winch may be an option if you purchase a larger tractor, but curious if you would leave it if you buy the same general size tractor. Thank you.
I still love the Norwood winch. It’ll be fine with any tractor with a category 1 3pt and a hydraulic connection.

Top question did your suppliers make the same on a log as you. I know the answer to that question. Now that I own the mill I know for a fact every mill was robbing me. Cost more to produce the long than the lumber and the logger don't get 25 percent of the end value of when it leaves mill. Cedar for example going mill price here is 4.00 but the logger get .75. something really wrong with that or oak logger gets .40 saw mill gets 2.00
There are so many variables in the loggers cost that that is an impossible question to answer. My cost is fixed. The logs are delivered, I pay per agreed price and I mill them and sell the lumber by the board ft.
@@thelogfather5002 ya lots of variables but doing both sides I know loggers always get the short end on the profit end. Last year's average for me to log cedar was 40 cents a bf. Cut skid haul then pay land owner and only clear 30 cents bf but did 100k bf
@@Andrew-sanders I get it completely… I probably pay better than anyone- but I’m such a small scale, by me being fair- isn’t really going to turn the tables. My dad was a logger- he knew how to make it profitable, he also ran a mill too. I have a good picture of both sides of the industry. I’ll log my own land on a small scale- when I can and buy logs from folks like myself. We do ok.
@@thelogfather5002 I got most mill owners around here mad if I have to buy a load to mill I give half of what I sell for. I am small scale to can't change a lot ether but can make people say if he can do it why not you. I cut and mill about 2k a week being a one man operator

Nice clean shop. Mine looks like a mobil mechanic truck rolled 10 times at high speed. Sure Pleased you are on the mend, we got some kind of head cold it has been over a week now but we are recovering as well.

As you know there is always more to a life story than meets the eye, a lot more.
My shop is a bit of a shambles most days. But I have everything I need to fix, fabricate, modify and maintain just about anything.
I’d say I feel just about normal- maybe a little less energy than normal- but getting better everyday- except for the cough!

hey Jeff just bought a range road 300 with the 103 deck It maybe a stretch but id like to figure this quickbooks app that you use and kind of a run threw on how you use it for the fire wood side I figured after watching you processor vids and being so happy with it you might no how to speak my language with this technology app lol God bless
Quick Books is great- takes a little getting use to- then they change the app as soon as I feel I have it mastered. They say they make it better each time- but I say leave well enough alone! I’ll see if I can make a little tutorial sometime. It’s a handy tool!

I wouldn't worry about the change of content with the expedition content. As much as anything at this point Jeff, IMO people buy into you and who you are and your perspectives on life and business.

What kind of motor due you recommend for a Vanagon camper ? We have a 91 Westfalia and are thinking about replacing the tired engine in the future. It’s a stock 2.1 Automatic that has run well
but lots of small systems replacements. Good rebuilders are scarce these days. Lots of Subaru
