I have owned the 991a. I always got good audio reports. Nice having HF, VHF and UHF in one box. The radio does have some quirks, but once you get used to it there are no problems. I would definitely buy one again. Not to mention it also has C4FM as well.
Really the main deciding factor is whether or not you want 2m and 440 or not. Personally I prefer a separate radio for 2m and 440. I owned a 991A for a few months and sold it and bought an Icom 7300.

What makes the FT991A so great on 2m/70cm is that it does those bands in SSB/AM/FM/C4FM modes. I think this is overlooked by most reviewers. 2m SSB is fantastic fun, and having the capability to play with 2m tropospheric ducting adds another dimension to this radio you simply can not achieve by adding a typical FM 2m/70cm mobile to an FT-710 station.
Getting to grips with my FT710 have had some good contacts already been very impressed so far have added a 24”dvi d monitor to enhance the experience in my tiny shack. My Ft818nd is feeling left out as is the Ftm400 73s M7CVK
The lack of an external monitor really hurts the 991A. I think I'm getting the 710 and then a separate UHF unit down the line. Perhaps the FTM-200 or 300.
Hi. Have you had a chance to operate on the FT-891? Can you compare 710 to 891 from receiver's perspective. I have the 891 and it works great, but will I get a much better receiver with the 710? I'll get a better UI, waterfall and other goodies, but would I make more QSOs with the same antenna setup? 73!

As a 991a owner I’ve been considering something like the 710 as potentially being a better dx rig as dx is my primary interest. Is the 710 remarkably better for dx than the 991a in your opinion? Are there any stand out features of the 710 that will make dx’ing better than the 991a can offer? I’m a headset user anyway so audio from the rigs speaker may not be particularly important. i worked with yaesu ft 991 , on hf bands is quite good but on vhf and uhf it did not hear well as dedicated radio for vhf and uhf. all in one its a compromise. there is no comparison with yaesu ft 710, yaesu ft 710 has much better screen, high resolutions, sdr spectrom scope in real time (yaesu ft 991 its delayed)
I think I'm sending my dx10 back for a 991a I really should have taken the all mode. Now I need to get a 2m 440 base to add to it not sure what I was thinking but dx10 is too much going on and it's all gizmo stuff that would be better off investing into the antenna. Convince me to keep the dx10.
Hi, I heard that 991A can operate in digital mode on HF. Is it possible for you to make some QSOs on HF in C4FM and SSB for comparison? Do you think using digital modes on HF is useful at all? Do you think it will be a thing in the future? 73 from Poland!
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones C4FM on HF is the only why I may consider 991A. All modes all bands allows you to mix modes and bands but you need to find someone with the same options on the other end to make QSO :)
I think the traditional band scope is so much better than the 3D scope. I find the 3D strictly cosmetic and totally useless. The 710 looks like a great radio. So far, I'm sticking with my 991A. Barry, KU3X

Hi i have used above Radios on FT8 but not very much they all do a great job antenna & settings make a big difference even my X6100 does great.73

HDMI requires license fees while DVI does not. Maybe that´s the reason.

Seems that FT-710 has much better audio quality. FT-991A sounds somewhat dull. Not enough video time to judge properly.
