- USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) is the fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier in the United States Navy. Its home port is Norfolk, Virginia, and it is a member of the United States Atlantic Fleet. The USS Abraham Lincoln has just finished a four-year, $4 billion makeover in Virginia. It was returned to the fleet on May 12th, 2017, marking the successful completion of its refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) carried out at Newport News Shipyard.

I was out on the Lincoln for a week in 1993 when I was a civil service eng for PHD-NSWC. I had permission to bring my personal 35m SLR. They let me walk the fight deck one day when we where cruising toward San Diego from Alemeda NavAir Station. I sat as a hood ornament for an hour on most forward point on flight deck. Cool stuff. I bet they said "look at that dude"....I don't care...wouldn't you?

Air wings will often deploy on different carriers. I was on the Lincoln for Westpac '95 with CVW-11 air wing. We returned from that cruise in (maybe?) October of 95 and in December CVW-11 was starting workups on the Kitty Hawk for a deployment to come in 1997.

exhaust sample is a joke made by millitary , they ask recruits to get exhaust samples. just for the laugh when a recruit comes back with an empty trashbag that he held infront of exhaust, search it , laugh ur ass off while seeing them poor guys getting black faces from the exhaust gases, very funny

Hi Sir I am looking for a man who worked in USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN,I met him in Subic last Oct 1991 hes name is Michael Coligde I am not sure for the spelling of his last name it sound like that,
His companion called him como he is 43 yrs old his birthday is Aug 27,when I met him he mentioned that he is in that ship for 16 yrs,he also mention he work in communication,Maybe you can help me I just want to know about him ,its almost 30 yrs now,My big gratitude if you can help me,Thanks and God Bless

Who has to wash dishes aboard the ship? Like do all the lower ranks take turns doing it or is there a specific set of people that do it?

The always enjoyable mess cranking. 3 months, or at least it used to be, of pure bliss. Not.
I did 3 tours of the mess decks. I was not liked very much. I had a massive problem with people telling me what to do.
Still had a great time. It's the best thing for a young kid.
