@MuskokaFreerider 7 minute mark when you pushed the sled out with the tunnel strapped to your waste was absolutely priceless and genius all at the same time. Can't wait to watch this build all summer and keep my sledding itch under control.
Flinstone power baby
@@MuskokaFreerider if you are still looking for a small gauge for the light weight build i have one i’m willing to trade off of a 2024 g5 freeride. Let me know if your interested
Carbon skid where you at! Muskoka is gettin Kuster-ee :)
This is where all the money went!
Love it! Can’t wait to see the finished version! 💪
Wow I wasn’t expecting this be as in depth as it’s turning out to be. Nice job man looking forward to this
175” YES!! Can’t wait for people to see what a 175 can doo compared to a 165. Love this build!
Love it! Snowmobile season is all seasons even if you’re not riding 🤘🏼
I knew you’d come to the dark side of the moon with a can!!! Nice work Matt!
Ti arms and Carbon Skid are killer! no sway is awesome, i've always deleted mine on every sled.
Dave at Redline Performance in Sylvan Lake makes a water to air intercooler for the factory turbos as well as a stage 4 high boost tune that uses race fuel. You need that in your life 😊
Your going to want to do some sort of heat management to combat the removed heat shielding I’d suggest doing a lot of exhaust heat tape and some gold adhesive heat barrier on the back of the hood and side panels and stuff like that
That thing will be a Weapon !!! i have rode a lot on a 175 they aren't as nibble but everywhere else they excel .... see you in Edmonton sled show bring lots of Merch !!
175... gonna be taking the limo up the hill :P Cant wait to see this build!
Renton coil spring for front titanium shock springs, clutch springs, titanium bolts, A arms, chrome moly steering post...
My 2022 165 N/A big bore weights 338lbs dry and 395wet....
Good luck on your build 😊
5 & a half minutes in, so I'm not sure if you bring it up later in the video but eliminating the oil injection & running mixed fuel, will eliminate a lot of weight.
So awesome you are finally going light weight is what you need in the mountains makes a big difference way to go Muskoka Freerider keep it up cant wait for the next video.
This is going to be sick!!! I have thought about purchasing Titanium fasteners off of the internet. I don't know if you would save money doing that, opposed to purchasing from Alt Impact, or X supplier, but theoretically, if you have the proper bolt length, proper thread pitch, everything could be replaced and ordered from X supplier. You can also switch out certain fasteners. There's probably steel in places (plastics, switches, brake reservoir) where you could get away with aluminum bolts, or even plastic darts or zip ties. I wonder if you could get away with Carbon fiber handle bars (mountain bikes). You could also get a hot knife and might be able to trim plastics, gussets, or vents down, but not completely away. As Louis from PowerModz said, "Ounces count!!!"
You can drill out a lot of bolts to save weight. Old stock car racing trick.
I cut 50lbs off my Skidoo Summit X last year by getting my fat a$$ back into shape...went from 240 down to 190...I"m back to 202 at the end of the summer, but should be under 190 by Christmas. I don't think you have 50 lbs to lose.
Awesome summer content
Excited to see you on a 175, I think you're gonna love it on the deep days! But, you're modding the wrong sled! The ZX 700 is what we want to see!
lol nawww
Hahah I’ll be honest I have zero interest in modding that old sled.
This is 100x the fun
Niceeeeee!!!! Titanium can here we come!!!
It’s so funny cause last season when Dawson was climbing the shoots I said “watch he’ll have a chute rocket next year” 😂😂
We need an update 🤘👏
Can’t wait to see you make noise with that can. Haha gunna be a sick ride man!
Cant wait to see it when it's all.dpne!
Can't go wrong with stripping weight out of spinny stuff. Titanium clutch hardware goes a long way. Also getting the stator and brake rotor shaved down at ZRP will help. Belt drive? I do love seeing lightweight builds. Makes me jealous being a trail rider. Mountain sleds get all the cool parts.
Yeah I thought that but not sure what kinda weight you can shave on the stator with that all the electronics of the etec.
I’ve never seen a reliable belt drive set up on a ski doo. They just don’t work as well as the Polaris. Will see what happens though.
Haha yea a lot more mod options when it comes to mountain stuff. Better start mtn riding
An easy but costly weight saving mod is to go full on titanium pipes and can. Consider air shocks all around. If you talk with some of the guys that run this years air shocks you can get a feel of how well others like em. I know some say those are now possible to use even for heavy usage, due to weight benefits are more important then shock performance. I you don't plan to do big drops it might work well for you. Carbon fiber fuel tank as well as carbon hood and side panels will also save you a lot of weight. To be brutal, I don't think the lightweight game is possible without sinking in hard cash into custom lightweight parts. Sure it costs a few bucks, but this lightweight sled is not a sled you will sell by the end of season to build a new next year. This will be you secret weapon sled. That come out to play when conditions calls for it. And you can easily get 3-4 seasons of riding or even more out of it as secondary sled or even your third choice sled. Just bite the bullet and man up for the cost, I know you will enjoy it every time you use it. Maybe a little tune up for the motor as well while you're at it? And I guess as a youtuber you get to to put the expenses of the build as a tax write off? Maybe you can get a sponsor or two to help fund the custom lightweight parts?
In the late 1990s an Arctic Cat engineer took a ZR sled, cut it down the middle narrowing it quite a bit and made the first Firecat prototype.😬
Isn't there some fancy light weight Ti clutch also Matt?
Unsprung mass gains to counter the longer track?
This is awesome! Can’t wait keep the vids going!
I took my 9R 155 at 508lbs to a 165 at 451lbs. A lot of custom work as well as alll the TI/Alum bolts. Ti bolts require some FU money. 7-800$/lb...
Where’d you get all your bolts
Whole tunnel out of cf..alu backplates for the track mounting point's (adhesive+rivet's).
That’d be pretty cool but a little outta budget haha
@MuskokaFreerider DIY man DIY
Awesome!!! But you could have just bought an alpha one, put turbo on would be same weight with way less work…
Do you have a part number for the gas tank
Awesome, can't wait!!
Thank you for sharing 😊
Chasing the one percent ... good luck 👍
Lighten the flywheel, lighten the brake rotor, titanium clutch bolts, Specialty Motorsports belt drive, carbon sled rear skid, fox float shocks, good old boondocker turbo snorkel straight up out of the hood, port the track, remove the track clips, no scratchers on rails, Can Skidoo do oil injection delete?
update!!
You finally got your F250 Lariat you ordered like 2 years ago? I see a 8ft box!
Good thing your in tight with Harper!
If you can't remove panels use a hole saw to reduce weight.
Mountain fit makes a headlight delete panel
Looks like xero is working on a hood for gen 5s think youll pick one up once they are available?
I didn’t see that till after I decided on another route lol
Can't wait to see er done
Love your videos, and good luck with your build!
Thank you!
The science experiments woulda been neat to see more of 👌😂🤣. What a tease showing us that lil bit 🤦♂️😝. Should be quite the ripper when you’re done 🤙
Haha if it goes well I’ll show some of it
Can't wait to see it at Hay-days
This will be a interesting one to follow!
CHUTE SLED!!!! Yesss
How’s it going on the sledd bro. Give us an update!
Yessssss about time you got a can 😂😂
Question, dont you need some lights? Seen quite a few returns on the dark 😊
I’ll just pack 2 headlamps I think
Can’t wait for hay days
2:48 you say “dethawed” in 🇨🇦. We say “unthawed” in Minnesota 🇺🇸 hahahhaha
Which both mean frozen. 😂"Thawed" is sufficient
👍 👍
In ND we say defrosted 😂
I was honestly a little surprised with the 175” chute route… I figured a nice light flickable sled for the trees and freeriding.
theres a good chance ill have it set up to swap from 175 to 154 easy
@@MuskokaFreerider how would you then manage the extra tunnel length? Even if you ran a chopped suetup for the 175, I would have to assume that a 165 "short version" would be more realistic. Did you have the link to the other lightweight builds?
@@whittaker727 the tunnel is a 165 expert so it’s already the short tunnel. The 175 stack will just stick out further past the tunnel. And when he switches it back to a 165 it’s the same as a stock expert.
This is awesome. Love to see a good Frankensled.
May sound like a stupid suggestion but ... how much does a seat weigh? Would you consider just not using one? For mountain and tree riding, you rarely ever sit down anyway. Maybe some sort of lightweight 'cushion' (for lack of a better word)?
Anywho, this is awesome and I cant wait to see the end product.
I sit down enough that I still want some kid of seat. Mostly for the trail and lunch lol
@@MuskokaFreerider LOL lunch. Well done.
Totally understandable and probably the right move. Was just thinking outloud more than anything.
First comment maskoka love your videos I ride a 2023 lynx shredder at the moment thing rips.
This is awesome.
make your own molds, and do some carbon fibre layups of all the body pieces (a friend and I use to do with our polaris pro and dragons) . Titanium A-arms, and steering post?
That’s what I’m trying, so far not going great 😂
Thats so cool Muskokafreerider luv your videos, I have a hard time sidehilling/tree riding on my skidoo 165 g4 turbo, is it way easier with a 146 or 155 track? just asking because of your experience
Mod sleds! 👏💯
Aren't you worried about durability issues with the carbon fiber stuff? It doesn't take shock forces very well. And you're always at 100 when you're riding.
Will see how it goes I guess
Dimond S Ti can is basically stock decibels but sounds better. Plus saves alot of weight. Nothing wrong with that! Atleast its not a GGB😂
Diamond S on a Summit 850 NA is very loud! Not like a race can but still very loud. I removed mine because of the decibel level
Everyone has their opinions on loud cans I guess, personally have a diamond s on my Poo 850 and have been around Doo 850s withem. I dont think they are loud....then again have a few GGB mountain cans in my group. (and ran one for while)
I should copy this with the ol lynx shredder! The lynx should just put a yamaha sticker on it for how heavy it is
Lynx needs a diet for suuuure haha
Hey I have a question I've been trying to edit my videos but none of them work so I'm wondering what you use?
Think you’ll still get ice buildup unless you do a thermal break between the tunnel and cooler
I will on the running board but I won’t on the back of the tunnel
Hey Matt, what are you doing with those hand guards?
Stoked !
I think I’d rather have hot clutches vs primary clutches that fall off on a regular basis!😂
😂😂
Watch out on the clutch cover. I forgot mine, a piece of belt came out, felt like my leg was broken. I loved my 175, with your abilities trees would be no problem. Bow ties are hard tho. My 175 was in a 165 chassis.
I knowwwwww, I’ll probably do something with cf for a shield.
I’m excited just to have a 175 haha also scared of the stupid places I’m going to put myself
@@MuskokaFreerider don’t go cf on that, not worth it as it’ll delaminate when the first belt goes. Just not worth the cash (or a left leg), just do a slim short guard on the back of the panel out of alu, preferrably stamped for rigidity.
You coming out to the Edmonton sled show again, missed you last time hoping to catch you there?
Planning to!
Updates buddy
Nifty !
I hear the number 8 pounds thrown around alot for a fresh wrap. surprised you only had about 2.
It was a matte wrap so already thin plus I didn’t have any of the wrap on the back of the tunnel or belly pan
What HP are you running with that sled?
Chute slayer coming soon! Go big or go home, right? A summer diet is the cheapest weight you’ll ever shed, but you’re a skinny dude already 😆 it’ll be fun to watch the progress, then send it up a chute like that crazy mofo on the blue 2018 summit x. Damn I had to watch one that a few times!
That's interesting that you like the ski-doo with the swaybar, I can't stand riding them with the swaybar connected.
Mostly for riding up the trail it sucks
you could go with fox float shoks
That’s the plan
I have some new lightweight fox qs3 coilovers available in Ontario good price
This is gonna be a gooder.
Hopefully!
do this in a few years but with a 146 inch skid and track
Very cool
How much those Backwood bumpers weigh? Stock ones must be lighter.
They don’t weigh much honestly. I will probably just run the back bumper and no front
Ruh roh....Matt got bitten by the chute bug!
I’m going to have so much money in to this sled I’ll by to scared to send it up chutes lol
@@MuskokaFreerider Are you gonna have a tune done and run on 115 or anything or keeping the motor stock?
TUNE IT!!
@@MuskokaFreeriderNo worries, climb chutes sitting down, eating Charleston chews. Wait at the top while everyone else chase their sleds down the mountain. That's gonna be a sweeeeet ride!
If you’re looking for carbon fiber made parts. Let me know
I’d trade gauges off my 23’ Summit for some merch 👀
Do clutches and bolts
Ok, I want to know about the science experiment lol. what was that boiling green stuff. LOL
Gelcoat haha
Im wondering if you are selling any parts that you are not using ?
Finally running an aftermarket can!😂
Shhhh
Check out the fox light weight shocks
Most likely going to run air shocks. Not going to loose any weight up front but will drop a couple pounds in the rear
Hey Mat I need a 165 track for my gen 4 Expert are you selling that track by chance ?
Yeah this track is basically brand new
@@MuskokaFreerider ok let’s make it happen
the magneto is lighter from a non shot sled
Muskoka going to have a can 😅😅😅
Fuxkin ay Matt! Lookin good buddy. What cha mean spent too much?! 🤷♂️ 😆 🤣 catch me out here central oregon s0me time!
Why are you not posting eny more vidoes😢
The back woods rear bumper weights 7 lbs. Maybe they can build you a lighter one
Start with a Polaris, they are just lighter to start with.
For sure. The etec motor has a lot of extra weight
If you want to keep some weight off during the day wax is your friend, wax the inside and outside of your tunnel, skis, suspension components, outside hood panels etc, it will last for several rides
Just a fat old guy who has a tough time trying to losing weight himself lol
no snow no problem just make a video where you modify your Ski-doo
