- Tim and Cindie Travis have no jobs, no children, few bills to pay and get around everywhere on their bikes.
For the past 7 ½ years, the Prescott, Ariz., couple has cycled through 24 different countries on four different continents. This week, they were making their way through Central New York and stopped to be interviewed on the Erie Canal Path near Jordan while waiting out a rain storm.
The couple -- he used to be a special education teacher, she worked as a geological consultant -- get by mainly with the proceeds from two, self-published books they've written about their travels and ad sales from their Web site, downtheroad.org . The Web site is constantly being updated with new entrees and to date boasts more than 20,000 photos of the couple's travels.
"We always get to see something new every day," said Tim, 43. "It's like constantly being at a university. Every day is like a science fair or a field trip."
Thanks so much for the kind words and buying our books. We are currently working on a 3rd book about our travels through Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. We are also in negotiations on producing a DVD movie but this will take more time.
Great to have you back here in AZ a few months ago! Safe travels!!!!
We will be working on our third book about southeast Asia this winter. Glad that you enjoyed our books.
Love your books and really can't wait to read your third one. Hopefully it is about your tour in Asia.
OMG! All on bikes!!? New subscriber here. @Charita Jones shouted you out. Freedom is important. You gotta love someone throwing all caution to the wind to experience the best of freedom. Be safe and enjoy the experience together for a good long lifetime✌️&❤
good for you guys that rocks!
will done awesome you two.
we love Arizona
Yes the tent is the heaviest item we carry, we usually make our own food, it is cheaper however, we do eat lunch out from time to time while in the USA. In developing countries like thailand we stay in hotels and eat out.
I have purchased one of your books and really enjoy the website.I know one of these days I am going for it. Just getting some money together. keep up the good work. Also to the guy who made the comment about body composition and exercise, go to a hospital and see some very skinny people who are diabetic. Very ignorant comment.
@DownTheRoad BOOK TITLE RIGHT THERE!
Well you go pals!
I'm about to have a long trip myself, but I haven't chosen a bike for that trip yet,
any tips choosing one?
Cool, I take it the tent is the heaviest item to carry? DO you make all your own food or eat on the road?
Wow thats nothing compared to going from Louisville to Cleveland and back.
(Louisville, Ohio of course!)
So the Internet allows you to do this?
How cool is that?!
Most people can only dream of doing what you do.
Cycling, and exercise in general, will reduce ones weight but it is no guarantee of being thin like a model.
Please, how could I not take such a question about my body anyway but rude. So my question to you is why do you hide behind an alias and make rude comments in public.
How comes the guys overweight after 7 n half years ? = / Somebody please enlighten me? Lol
