Ex-NFL player who killed 6 had 'severe' CTE, researchers say

- Phillip Adams, a former NFL player accused of killing six people in a mass shooting in Rock Hill before taking his own life in early April, showed signs of severe brain damage caused by CTE, a researcher from Boston University said Tuesday.
Dr. Ann McKee, a neuropathologist and expert on neurogenerative diseases at Boston University, said Adams had severe CTE in both frontal lobes of his brain. Dr. Sabrina Gast, the York County coroner, said Adams' family told officials he had complained of excruciating pain, memory issues and difficulty sleeping late in life.
"His 20-year career put him at high risk for development of CTE," McKee, who conducted the study on Adams' brain, said. "It's a progressive disease that worsens with age. In many instances, it is a disease of the young."
Police say Adams shot and killed Robert Lesslie, 70, his wife Barbara Lesslie, 69, and two of their grandchildren, Adah, 9, and Noah, 5, as well as two HVAC workers, James Lewis, 38, and Robert Shook, 38 on April 7 in Rock Hill.

Jasen Isom of the 49ers has unconfirmed CTE (because he’s still living, for now) but has the memory loss and time gaps, heart stops randomly, must use oxygen , and now walks with a walker. Not even 50 and the NFL isn’t doing squat about it. 4 kids and a wife and the “BEARCAT BROTHERHOOD” go fund me page is all he has… that is sick, sad, and despicable for a money making league to use players then discard them when they retire. Just sickening…
As long as they make money they’re fine sacrificing their players.

I think it’s sick too but they make more money in a few years then many do in a lifetime and it’s never “free” it’s a sport with risks .. yes they should talk about CTE and let people know .. the damage is done in early childhood for some of these people

According to Roger Goddell playing football is 100% safe and there’s no link between cte and playing football. So on draft day when Roger Goddell gives draftees the Judas hug he is saying thank you for donating your brain.
So potentially there are some nfl players and college players who might have CTE ?

@@mgreen351 yup I believe I have it from 8 years of playing football since I was 6 years old anxiety depression sometimes dealing with lost of reality not feeling like myself lost of judgement meaning I would do very stupid things that could get me in trouble without the realization of the outcomes a high school football player died on the field not to long ago he had one of the worst cases of cte seen
I’m so sorry. It’s something that really needs to be discussed more. Student athletes and their parents need to know. There are no excuses. The NFHS doesn’t even acknowledge a link between CTE and football, although the NFL does. This needs to be immediately changed. Football players are football players regardless of their age
@@mgreen351 100% agree with you I will not let my kids play contacts sports the biggest discussion is what can we do to stop it there’s no other answer then to to stop having kids play it no matter how much padding is in a helmet or how soft the turf is what causes a concussion is the brain moving you get hit soft or hard your brain is free floating in a liquid also passed down from families for example my dad played football all his life also concussions weren’t a big deal back then so I had to play with concussions the really bad ones I would rest for a day and be back on the field I believe my dad has it he has anger problems he’s been married 6 times he Carrie’s the same symptoms I do
As a 10 year old I had to be put in a mental hospital for threatening of killing myself what 10 year old who has a good life playing football friends school goes through that without there being a actual problem I blame that on cte I had terrible anger flashouts

Some guys takes hits for decades, retire, become sports casters and businessmen....etc. - they're fine. But a certain percentage of people - higher than what I would have guessed - end up with CTE and it's freaking horrible. I was shocked that of 111 brains donated 110 had degrees of CTE. If I were a parent I wouldn't even let my kid play football. There are plenty of other sports where you don't have to deal with this risk. For that matter, if 110 out of 111 brains examined had this pathology it isn't even a "risk" - it's basically a certainty that a player is gonna have some degree of this damage to the brain. That's crazy.
No because families of players who showed symptoms may have been more inclined to donate the brain.
Not to mention the one brain who didn’t have CTE was a kicker lmao.

I love how almost all the big sports casters said during Aaron Hernandez’s suicide that tons of NFL players have CTE, that doesn’t make you go out and kill someone. Yet, here’s another example they never brought up acting like Aaron was a one off.
Stop the NFL, American football is a monkey game, stop it.
That or some kind of complete game change like flag or two hand, because one way another the game will die with this stuff happening.

It’s an explanation and CTE needs to be talked about no one claims he is innocent the disease did cause his issues and his actions just like other mental illness .

You’re right. We should just ignore it. No need for an explanation. All these ex football players losing their minds must just be a coincidence. I’m sure it will sort itself out…
Mental illness is real, no one claimed he was a victim. They are just providing a potential motive for his irrational actions. As someone else said already, do you think we should just turn a blind eye to the current state of many football players? All of these players doing crazy things and acting “off”. We need more awareness about this, so we can discover treatment options, and things like this stop happening.
