- WELCOME TO ZAKOPANE!!! We can't believe it is SO SNOWY! We haven't had SNOW for YEARS so couldn't believe it when we arrived yesterday from Krakow! We have been so excited to explore but even more excited now that it is covered in snow, -10 and we are loving IT!

Harriet and I never got to Zakopane. But it must have been a lot of fun playing in the snow. Like kids in a candy store. The UK doesn't get snow like that. Harriet and I are originally from Boston. Ma.

At this time of the year, the cheese is made of cow's milk, because there is simply no sheep's milk. It will appear in the spring when the sheeps return to the meadows. We invite you to spring.

I was shivering all the way till the end. Funny how a personal experience on Camelback mountain has done that to me. A couple of devoted adventure seekers first talked us into skiing through packed ice conditions. I had felt a rib crack but we'd just gotten started. Meaning, we were driving north thru the Catskills mountains to get ourselves to Montreal the next day where it was 20 degrees colder. What makes it totally memorable to me was that I was about to get on a flight to Cairo. I wasn't expecting to negotiate a very narrow tunnel and enter the Red Pyramid's main chamber. That crack on my rib was tortuous, but you cannot not go into the Pyramid's chamber when given the opportunity. This memory is something I will always associate with skiing. It will never happen again.

There is a winter sport activity you could have done in Zakopane - its called a `Skki Trikke` which you can hire for about 20 euro`s a day, you don`t need to learn any skiing (you will master it in 15 mins) or buy any ski wear except wear warm clothing & winter footwear.
Zakopane is one of my favorate place to visit. I went to skiing several times. Absolutely beautiful!

Its 2 weeks half term from schools - so its packed

@@dabbleandtravel Poland is large so 2 weeks until 29 Jan whole South of Poland had a half term.
Then from the 30th of Jan kids from Warsaw and the North of Poland traveled to the mountains for a 2 week break.
They , this time had less luck as 3 avalanche already happened nr. Zakopane area fortunately at night.

Hi, about the Browar Góralski - unfortunately it's neither craft not local beer. It's being made by Browar Staropolski - large brewery in central Poland and they just pretend it's local, craft beer.
Actually you can buy the same beer all over Poland just with different names - in Zakopane they claim it's from mountains, in Pomerania they pretend thay make it somewhere by the sea etc. In every tourist destination you can buy their mediocire beers (the same beers just with differet labels) pretending to be craft and local.
Does anyone know when Zakopane is lit up for Christmas?😊 in Malta the holiday atmosphere with the lights, etc starts around 7th December - I wonder if it’s different in Zakopane?

i ve been there every year when i was young. i live 5h drive from zakopane. now its hard to find accommodation , u need to book it in advance , prices are up dramatically. to many tourists found out about that place. no offence, i am happy u enjoyed it i hope u will visit again. i am just saying its harder to spent weekend or holiday there for locals and its more expensive now ;(
We can totally understand that , sometimes things are best kept secret! But pleased for the local business owners; who are getting more custom 😁
the gingerbread beer doesn't taste like gingerbread because the Polish-English translation is very wrong (don't know who came up with that). gingerbread and "Polish gingerbread" are completely different things. in Polish, it's called piernik or pierniki. if you google it you'll see that they are completely different from a typical gingerbread. Pierniki are often filled with plum jam that's why you can taste plum in your beer.
Also come in summer! especially in the mountains, that's a completely different experience.

Turns out that my prediction was correct after all, not that it was a difficult guess :D Anyway - consider Bania Hotel in Bialka Tatrzanska, close by Zakopane. Top-notch hotel with all the amenities PLUS a skiing school with rent-a-ski outlets and whatnot. Highly recommended
