    This video is a great example of halter breaking! I showed this to my younger friends all the time (5-13 yr olds) it helped them so much like how to helped me my first time. Thank you for the helpful, good, and useful information! ❤

    Good video! I found it helpful for one of my FFA lambs that seemed to be scared of the halter. The only thing I would add is that instead of associating the halter with feed time is instead treats. At shows and fairs when the halters needed, the sheep can become confused in the busy environment, when that familiar item no long means food time.
    Thanks you again!

    I have 2 show lambs 1 is pretty good at walking the other I can't get to walk and I have 1 month and 2 days till show I'm not trying to go in with a halter but I might have to

      I think it’s easier to start with the halter and take it away later.

    Is there a way you can do a video of how you halter break a wild goat?

  • @vivigpaddi

    Nice video! Do you have any tips if you’ve been training your lambs and they get worse? Mine were doing really well and now they flop down and refuse to walk unless it’s back to their pen.

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  4 місяці тому +1

      It happens. They seem to go through phases. You can try walking them by hand without the halter and some sheep will do better when following a “well behaved” buddy until they get used to it again.

      @@LinessaFarms thanks. they’ve actually been doing a lot better, but i think that’s my plan anyway because i’m required for the fair.

    What age can you start halter training? Thanks so much for your videos ❤

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  2 роки тому

      You can start working with them at 4-6 weeks. This would be sitting with them, talking to them, getting them used to you touching them, etc… after weaning you can dig in to the halter. Halter breaking them when they are still on mom seems to just upset everyone.

    I've got a yearling with her baby. The baby, I'm sure, will be easy, but how hard will it be to train mom? She wasn't interested in following feed, but did have snack breaks along the way. Assuming its the same as the babies for the older animals, how long of a session do you work with them?

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  Рік тому +1

      I would halter her before feeding, leave her haltered during feeding and try to walk her a little after. It shouldn’t take too long for her to associate the halter with meal time. Start at 5-10 minutes a day and work your way up as she gets more used to it.

    I got my sheep last week and I cannot halter break it I tie it up nd it starts jumping and I have to untie her because it feels unsafe

    • @LinessaFarms
      @LinessaFarms  2 роки тому

      Grab the halter right next to the head so you have more control and can prevent her from doing this. As she gets better, you can give her more line.
