- Firing a restored 42lb cannon at Port Hudson State Historic Site in Port Hudson, LA. Port Hudson was the last Confederate stronghold along the Mississippi River.
Awesome!!!
We have one of these guns in front of the Idaho state capitol form the fort in Vicksburg. Always wondered what that bad boy could do!
There are a few ships in history that had 42 pound guns.
It would be interesting to see the impact a shell from one of these would have on a ship.
the "fort" was a city filled with civillians
This ain't what the bad boy could do, though! It's only a little powder charge, not even a shell!
Why is there no recoil? Is it because its just an empty charge & no projectile?
Most likely.
Yes
its bogged up on wooden plates, not standing on its wheels, still slides back a good bit, there defo is recoil, but id guess it was an empty shot.
It was a blank.
It is a blank yes. The funny thing is that projectiles actually make a louder sound, becouse of the air/gas sealeant infront of the barrel. I always hate when people think that reanactements sound the same.
Sure as Hell would not want to be on the receiving end of that son of a b
hms victory really be out there with 30 bronze 42 pounder cannons 🤣
I don't think this gun weighs 42 pounds.
Sure it does, its made of fiberglass and full of helium.😝 Just kidding, 42lb cannon was referring to shot size, assuming a solid iron ball at approximately 6.68 inch diameter weighs about 42 pounds.
That's how much the cannon ball it shoot weighs.
🙂👍
Pretty unimpressive without a warshot
