I don't understand why don't you just record the video and audio directly in the camera, if you use a single mic, single cam, and even the audio is recorded in analogue (transformed from digital to analogue and back)? Both the audio and video would end up on the SD card anyway. Why route it through an extra mixer and recorder? Your camera has no audio-in? If you had two cameras or mic, and you want to mix those into a single file (and don't want to edit afterwards), maybe.
I love the inclusion of the Atomos. Portability was the main reason I bought the Streamer X. Instead of the Atomos, I use my iPad Pro with Camo Studio so I can have a two camera setup if needed and it can record to an external ssd if needed. Great information!
Great video, as always! I don't know if you've seen Caleb Pike's (DSLR VIDEO SHOOTER) video on the monitor mount for the Rode Streamer X and the Ninja V. It's a 3d-printed baseplate with a monitor mount. It makes it into a really nifty setup! and eliminates the need for the mini-tripod for the monitor. the 3d-printed solution also has an optional caddy swapper that allows you to quickly go from recording to editing off the ssd
Great video Kri! I have everything you have available to me and never really thought about routing it this way. Great editing BTW - really great presentation.
Ya Know, I love the setup. Seems like the YoloBox will do all of this with 1 piece of gear. I will record, and capture audio and stream. All in one -- Great Video
Great video. How do you do multitrack audio recordings into a DAW? Currently using a Rodecaster Duo with "Main Multitrack" available for each audio channel.
I don’t believe it’s possible to do what you’re describing since a DAW would read your duo as one input. You’d have to upload each track separately to whatever software you’re using to split them. Happy to learn if there’s a way to do this though!
nice setup! Any suggestions on how could I record from my Sony camera to a drive on my PC/MAC or to a NAS directly? (by passing the SD or Atomos...with similar quality to internal camera capture?)
I use an Atomos Ninja V to record externally via HDMI for my sony cameras. Hoping they'll allow external recording via USB-C in the future but for now, this is one of the very few options they provide for recording externally.
Thank you for the video, great information. I do pose the question, why go through the streamer x on the go, with no laptop? Why not capture on the camera, or atomos connected from camera for an (on the go) interview? What’s the extra benefits passing through the streamer x? Thank you
Good question! In this case, I'm passing everything through the Streamer X so I can take advantage of the settings that the SX has to offer. From there, I record to the Atomos Ninja. There are a number of different ways you could do this, but this is the smallest I was able to put together with the gear I have.
@@kriedholm I found it on Wayfair. It looks like the Mckinnon Freestanding Room Divider by Upper Square. Thanks for replying. It looks really cool and elevates how your studio looks. Definitely smaller that I thought it was though (I thought it was a complete wall cladding). Nice find on your part.
Hi Kri, I love watching your videos! I’m wondering if I could connect the Stresmer X directly to the camera and a USB microphone like the Rode XDM-100 without using a recording device like the Ninja 5. Do you know if I could record my audio and video directly into a laptop? Thank you!
Thank you! Unfortunately you can't use a USB mic with the Streamer X at this time BUT you can record audio/video on your computer using the device. I use Quicktime to record videos on my mac.
Nice set up. However, I am a little confused on what the streamer x offers you. It seems to me that the Ninja V does everything for you. Couldn't you simply cut the streamer x out of the setup? I am just curious and processing the workflow. Thanks.
I think most people see the Streamer X as a streaming device only but you can really do so much with it. You can pre-program the pads to produce your entire video or show including set design, use multiple mic options, send signal to record or stream on a computer, and the list goes on. It’s fun experimenting with the possibilities and this is just one example. @evanthecameraman
Maybe I missed the point. Why aren't you recording directly to camera, avoiding both the streamer X and the Atomos Ninja? All you'd need instead was the wireless receiver connected to the camera.
Kri - this setup looks kick a**. I do like the idea of always routing audio through the rode streamer or a rodecaster - mainly because I truly like how the rode consoles process this audio. Have you been just as pleased with the audio processing from the streamer x as on your rodecaster pro?
Yeah, this one was fun to set up. The RCP2 and SX have the same preamp, which is amazing. I'm pleased with both, but will mention that if you want more finite audio settings and controls, the RCP2 (or duo) is the way to go.
@@kriedholm appreciate the response. I’ll pull the trigger on the streamer x. Also have been quite happy with rose’s customer service over the years. They were good about honoring two replacements of my rcp2. While it was a brief pain, there was no hesitation from them which says a lot.
I must have missed something. This looks like it’s doing the same thing as just having the camera by itself with a Rode GO mic or similar. I’m just not following the reason you add the X and Atomos and essentially complicate the workflow if all you’re aiming to do is record both audio and video into a single file.
What are your thoughts on this setup?

The practical aspect of your videos is the best selling point of your channel and the videos are very helpful. Thank you!
I appreciate that and thanks for tuning in!
I believe Rode Unify software offers Mix Minus for the Streamer X where you can separate the audio from the video coming in from the HDMI.
Thanks for the info!

Appreciate it, Pete!
Love this little setup 🔥🔥 Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
Can i connect a usb c mic? I'm using a deity d4
The people who are 3d printing a housing for the monitor and streamer x to be an all in one unit is amazing... I love this setup
Enjoy the creativity that’s out there. Thanks for tuning in!

Oh nice will have to check it out.
I believe your Analog Audio you are sending back to the Ninja V is going to be out of sync. You can correct it in the Ninja V. However if it works. 🙂
Thanks!

I appreciated this video. Any A/V sync issues with the final file when running audio through wireless via the mic > Streamer X > Atomos this way?
Thank you and I haven't run into any sync issues with this setup.
Super info. Thanks Kri.
You got it and thanks for tuning in!
good job. Nice
Thanks!
Off-topic but what are those 3D, interlocking sound panels in the background? Where can I find them? They look awesome!
They were a FB marketplace find!

Thanks for your videos. Great stuff. May I ask you where your gray wall panel is from?
Snagged this gem off of FB Marketplace
Does it can use for Singing livestreams on Yt? Or just for Podcast.
Sure, why not!
Great video.
Thank you - appreciate you tuning in.
?? Why would you need the wireless go receiver when the wireless go 2 can pair directly with the Streamer X ?
You can only pair 1 rode wireless mic directly to the streamer x. By using the receiver, you can use > 1 mic.
And in this configuration, is there room for the xlr microphone? And what is your camera? Hug.
If you're ok with a larger-sized setup, a XLR mic will work just fine. I'm showcasing the a6700 in this video.

Unable to connect the osmo pocket 3 to the streamer x at this time because the pocket 3 doesn't support HDMI output

That’s def an option but then you miss out on the extra functionality that the streamer x and ninja v can add to your workflow.
Amazing video!
Do you think is it possible to connect an IPhone instead of Sony?
Not with the Streamer X, but you can with the Mackie Mainstream. I have a video coming out about this tomorrow!

Not sure why you're even using the Rode Streamer X in this setup, instead of just the Rode receiver. Wouldn't you achieve an even more compact setup?
You could do that as well!
👍👍
Thanks for tuning in!
Using the Osmo Pocket 3 would be even more portable than this.
It would!
