@@joeyjosern doesn't mean it's ok. doesn't mean people should just ignore this inhumane way of thinking about people who need treatment and support. America wasn't always this way. at some point capitalism needs to take a back seat to humanity and compassion. there are enough of smart compassionate people in healthcare to stop capitalism in healthcare!
I truly feel as a patient that this is so true. So many physicians / nurses don't really show the patient the concern or compassion for their patients anymore at all.

Oh my goodness I feel like this is exactly me. quit my primary care NP job 6 months ago and felt all of those things. Everyone is pointing out how I can go into this and that specialty, but I'm just so over healthcare. You aren't alone! Thank you for sharing your experience
Wow! I just graduated as an np 5 months ago. I got 3 jobs offer (nocturnist, primary care, and case management NP). I chose the nocturnist position and hope that I made the right decisions. Cause I would hate to feel like this.

It’s very hard, the transition of RN to NP, with respect to just how much our healthcare system is run in America. Profit over patient is definitely correct. I quit my my job as a registered nurse last two years ago after almost 12 years in the field. It was not an easy decision, but life is too short to dread going to work everyday. No amount of money can buy real happiness Lol 😁but friends I'm not asking you to resign from your job or abandon your business but be wise!!

I worked in a nursing home 15 years ago and had a positive experience. Tried it again a few years ago and it BROKE me. I gained 35lbs in a few mos, was miserable, suicidal ideations. Not good. I’m a strong person and they broke me fast. Find somewhere you’re valued… you deserve it.

@@Tania-rg7jp LPN stress eater here…BUT I refuse to go out like this so I’m in the gym now and riding my bike. My b/p went from 136/80 to MY normal: 110/60/70 in just going on the treadmill a distance 2.5 miles over an hour at least 4 days/ week over 6 weeks. Imho EVERY healthcare worker should exercise. We carry much burdens especially when we do our best to do a good job.
I know everyone can’t do travel nursing but I got my masters and couldn’t find what I wanted to do with so I left me staff job and just travel . It’s more money and prevents burnout . I work 7 months out the year .

Nursing is not easy these days and some people don’t work together. It’s always more work than pay. Prayers is the only thing that helps and keeping spiritually motivated and showing compassion. Each day is a struggle.

The beauty about nursing is that if you get exhausted in a role that you're in, you can readily move onto other things. But I totally get where you're coming from. Hundreds of Nurses I know have quit their jobs because of the lack of feeling supported by administrators or appreciated by their patients.
I worked as an LPN for 10 years. Thought about going further, and now I'm Doing Web Development. I know now that this is the path for me. I had to pray before entering the job, deal with racism, I just fell out of love with nursing. Congratulations on quitting for you. New sub ❤️

I work in a nursing home as a CNA in NYC and you have to just have live in your heart because you do more work than you’re paid for
I’m a physician. I changed jobs after my maternity leave and feel like Jobs wife. I’d rather go back than stay where I am now. I feel like the past few months have been a practice of breaking me. I have no control over my schedule and the e patients are demanding and entitled. Pray for my next move

I honestly can't believe what you just said. Patients are "demanding and entitled..."? You can't be serious. So it's the patient's fault? Remember who you are working for. Patients actually ARE demanding BECAUSE they are entitled to good healthcare.

@@sunshinegirl1967 I wouldn’t say all but there are some patients who make the profession not enjoyable and I can see where this physician is coming from. Healthcare is a physically and emotionally demanding job and things like a lack of gratitude, understanding, and patience really brings on a lot compassion fatigue.
I am an FNP and halfway through my DNP. I can totally relate to how you feel. However, unless you are comfortable and want to work in LTC/nursing homes, you will not enjoy your career in that clinical setting. I knew as an RN I did not like working in nursing homes, so I stayed away from nursing homes. My first NP job was primary care, working with veterans (senior population). I did not like working with seniors and did not want to limit my practice to geriatrics. Therefore, after 4 years, I quit my government job. Now I work as an NP in acute care at one hospital, in administration at another hospital, and as an adjunct professor at a local university where I teach BSN clinical and lecturer in the MSN program. I am happy with the decisions I made and satisfied with my career. I feel like I am making a difference in people's lives and training the next generation of nurses. As an Advanced Practice Nurse, you must find your nitch/niche and continue to grow your practice. You do not have to settle or give up your practice because of a clinical setting that does not work for you.
What is the benefits of DNP compared to just an NP ?
my mom has a friend at church who testified at new years that her job was making her take care of 100 clients in the hospital without extra care and she quit. Honestly, the way they treat individuals is not fair.
After 30 years as a Pacu nurse I retired. My whole family was begging me to and I finally did. The system has turned into a monster devouring every one in it’s path.

@@salma31000 I love the job just not being on call 24 hours a day several days a week. I think you should have a little ICU experience before going to work there because you may have patients with art lines or needing drips ect.

It is crazy how the nurses. I watched through nursing school quit. I been nurse for three years and Im ready to leave the field already. Nursing is unnecessarily difficult. I wish I knew this before I became a nurse.

@@Zizzyyzz that I've been trying to do for some time now. I'm looking at the ability to have a consistent job and decent salary, but is it worth all the stress it causes. My RN friend says she has PTSD. She's devastated every time she has to go to work in the hospital
I’m also a NP, practicing in a LTC setting and I’m leaving when my collaborators retire in 4 months. The new vision for the practice is totally profit over patients, and I’m not sticking around for it. God told me it was time and I listened. I’m going to focus on homeschooling my children and continuing to scale my online income. Best wishes to you 🖤!
I've been a CNA in a nursing home the last 3 years and I graduate as a RN in a few months. I start my nursing externship in a few weeks at a hospital and I don't think I could ever do long-term care again. I hope when I eventually become a NP that I don't have to take a job in long-term care. God bless everything you do, your content inspires me to keep going! 🙌

It’s a shame I feel the exact same way! I have been an NP for 8 years and I am completely burnt out. I fantasize about quitting this profession all together. Bless you and your daughter for all the hard work you do; Thank You! It's sad that the back-wrecking work that you do is so very under-appreciated (financially or otherwise). I have heard some CNA;s say they could make more working at a fast food place. Residents/patients are complicated and require so much hands-on care that if one isn't in the nursing field, they would not be able to understand how much effort it takes to take care of so many with so little time.
Totally get it been a LVN for 7 years and I’m over the clinical setting. I recently became a esthetician and now I’m in school for my BSN just to do Botox and laser aesthetics. I’m completely done with traditional medicine. These companies only care about financial gain and I just can’t be a part of it.

Yes Botox and laser aesthetics! I’m graduating later this year and I do not desire to be in a hospital for too long, I’ll probably do a bit of. WFH nursing as well then NP school and move into aesthetics

Yes, the health care system in America is a disgrace. And I am so disappointed in the State and Federal laws/involvement in making the health care system fair, safe, and satisfactory for all people.

@@thedjshow0528 very self explanatory about how the patients/workers/students/customers & society isn't functioning or getting good healthcare, customers service, and poor education because of the government not prioritizing humanity and corporate greed!! It's all about the profits and numbers instead of providing great safe care. These corporations and systems are making tons of wealth but failing because they undervalue their employees. You see it in every industry. They prioritize greed and power over the wellbeing of patients and workers. The system will collapse because most helping professionals are mass oxudus exiting in drives out of these industries.

@@thedjshow0528 oh no not at all huni. I put systems plural are a mess and failing everyone because I'm a therapist and have clients from all fields. Of course it's terrible in healthcare, mental health, and education but it's all terrible in corporate America, law, banking, helping professions, and customer service in general. I was studying to be a nurse years ago and a mental health therapist now so I've experienced the systems being profit over care from multiple angles unfortunately ; (. I think the systems have to continue to collapse and tons of workers leave to demand change because there's too much corporate/insurance companies/CEOs greed, control, and power.
NPs by me are opening their own clinics. Business is booming and the wait lists are long. People want medical care that holds to ethics and treats people with respect. There's definitely opportunity out there. The clinic I found has a guarantee of 30 minutes per patient with the NP. There isn't a rush feeling.
I feel like a newbie in my 9th yr as a psych RN & 2nd yr as a psych NP. I’ve never worked for anyone as a psych NP so I do have freedom as I opened my tele practice right out of the gate. That’s probably the only thing that’s saving me. I “work” three days a week but man it can be scary carrying so much weight. Many days I would rather focus on trucking & real estate, which I still have my hands in.

Hey Laurie! Great vid! I got out of The clinic setting a family practice and now I do home health care. I ended up getting a $30,000 raise, make my own schedule, and I went from seeing 20 patients a day to 3 to 4 patients per day! I do not recommend a clinic setting as you will not like being Stuck there for eight hours seeing a ton of patients for minimal pay! I love the home healthcare gig and the flexibility that I have!
Mark that is amazing! a raise and less patients I love to see it... Also the fact that you are happy is all that matters as well.
Alex, I’ve been an NP for just over 2 years. RN experience has no relevance when you’re an NP; two different scopes of practice. My recommendation was to stay away from primary care as it’s a ton of work with the least amount of pay. Depending on specialty, experience, and where you live, will dictate salary range just like with RN’s. I’m an FNP, so I can work with any population (kids, adults, geriatrics) and I can work in any specialty, so I always recommend specializing. I also recommend staying out of a clinic setting so you’re not chained to a clinic for 8+ hours and can make your own schedule and have a ton of flexibility. Again, you get none of those perks in primary care.

Has anyone here thought of working in the prison system? The nursing got bad for me I was working until things changed when a friend suggested working in the prison. I said, I could never work in a prison. Eventually put an application in the local prison in Tucson Arizona and they hired me to work in the Infirmary and actually it was the best job I ever had . It was so much different than I Had imagined. The inmates were usually polite with nurses. But it's like anyplace, some good, some not so good. I love prison. Federal prison has few more regulations than PVT prison. Sorry my sentences are a little scattered, but I have a few distractions here that are interfering with my thought process. Just thought I would throw that out there. For me, not as scary as I thought it would be. I actually would pray with inmates and I really liked that.

I am not surprised that you quit eventually. I believe you will get a much better job and this time around you have a better vantage point and more leverage.
I will be starting my first NP job in the next couple of months (in the ED) after almost 2 years of finishing school, and after being an ED nurse for more than 12 years. I am so disappointed in what healthcare has and wonder sometimes if I will be able to make a difference.

Congratulations Laurie! It takes courage to walk away from any unhealthy situation. I saw this coming cause your frustration was obvious for the longest. Healthcare was always was it is but I think Covid exposed more truth about it which is why many of us from all levels of the field are feeling like moving on or starting businesses. Pray and ask God to guide you to the next best job meanwhile if you are unsure of where you want to head next give travel nursing a try, you have plenty of ICU experience and those contracts are worth it these days, build your savings and the future will tell, go with the flow of life, it’s going to be fine, all the best on your future endeavors! I quit my job as a registered ICU nurse because I was burned out from the unsafe nurse to patient ratios. Sadly, so many of us have the calling to help people but the healthcare system is broken and we can't do our jobs safely. Best wishes to you.
Congrats! I quit my job in a SNF/same reason. I felt stretched too thin with unsafe ratios. I was also very disappointed with the amount of charting required; it was ridiculous!! When you spend 2/3 of your time charting, you Know there's a problem !!
I’m an RN and I must say I clicked on this video and I agree with “ healthcare is annoying”. It’s bothersome when you really have a gift & skills to implement but bureaucracy of healthcare overshadows everything! I’m learning to navigate in our profession a little better, where I leave room for myself to work in another capacity or form of myself. Remember we are multifaceted people. I’m an RN that has long term care and med surge experience. I hated working nights and didn’t go back after my covid infection because of long covid. I still want to work and do something to keep current. I have always had an entrepreneurial side so I am starting foot and nail care class on Monday. I plan to to start my own business providing foot and nail care. 😬
That’s a great idea I heard nail salons make a lot of money
With that experience you should try to get into aesthetic nursing where you can give people fillers and botox.

@@KimmyDTV it’s not a nail salon. I would be providing foot and nail care to diabetics for example. Or to elderly, those that don’t have someone to care for their feet. A wound or ulcer on the lower extremity can be devastating. Especially if someone has venous or arterial issues due to their health. But yes I could make more money than working at the bedside.
@@theshinythings123 I thought about aesthetic nursing but I would not fit in. I am natural when it comes to beauty products, prevention. I have started to let my hair go gray. I think it would be odd to provide that type of care when I myself don’t use or follow these type of beauty standards.
product over patients is something that I noticed at 20. I got into medical school at 21 and after reflecting on my healthcare experiences with physicians I knew it was a backward situation. The fact of the matter is that 90 percent of treatments are done on a preventable illness and an individual that is not motivated to get better. On top of that, the keystone of medicine in today's world is profit. The bottom line is valued over any patient and you or any worker is just a puppet in this big money scheme. Unfortunately people need jobs so they work in these fields because they pay well, but if you evaluate the system it is broke.

I have been a nurse for almost 33 years now. Nursing is rough and we have been talking about this for years. The pandemic has only served to exacerbate the problem and highlight the purely financial interests of most health care organizations. They don't care about patients and definitely not about staff. We are juat working machines, tools to line their pockets. It is sad to see what nursing has become. I am proud of you for stepping up and stepping out. Never doubt for a second what God can do. Even though you are unsure of what your next move will be, your peace with your decision is apparent. I am happy for you. I just wonder what this country is going to do. There is currently a mass exodus of health care staff, myself included and so many others that I know. The entire system needs refocusing and revamping.
I am hoping to see more professionals shift to Functional Medicine private practice. But ofcourse that doesn't help the poor because PP doesn't accept insurance. As a patient I only seek out holistic trained MD, DO, Functional. The practice that I go to offers UBI IV OZONE and works to treat the whole body seeking the root cause of illness. Medical professionals need to bring back OZONE therapy to the masses, again.

I worked in a nursing home for almost a year and quit. I worked in the human resources department. I just couldn’t stomach it! it was so sad! My mom was a neonatal nurse and worked as a nurse her entire life. Towards the end she left the hospital setting and only did private duty she was so good to her patients and her patients were so good to her, as well they treated her like family! You have to do what is best for you!

I've been a CNA for 9 years and I've been working in hospice since 2018, well back and forth from hospice and hospital. I love what I do but there is always more. CNAs get no respect so I'm heading back to school to get more letters by my name.

As a nurse working in nursing home got my first job in this setting during the pandemic now almost two years. I am feeling the same way u feel now, nothing is going to change it makes me tired mentally, emotionally, physically. I do love my patients but at what cost.

I hated the nursing home ever since my first semester of nursing school. As a np I feel like I have wasted my time pursuing thus degree. I'm doing housecalls but I'm so so over it. They try to exploit you as much as possible, if they can take your blood, they will and turn around and ask you for more please. I'm scouting out possibilities while using up my time. Congrats on having the hutspa to say no more.

Thank you I have been on a journey that started as an EKG tech and this May I finish my CNA course. I have been discouraged thanks to covid but your channel keep me motivated to keep going. I change my undergrad te to Biology because I do know Medicine is more where I want to go. However I look forward to working as a CNA while I finish my degree. Hopefully, you won't be working as a CNA in a nursing home....it's slavery. Many facilities have no respect for CNA's...you will carry the bulk of patient care all on your shoulders. Usually, with no real help. They might pass a tray or two..."for you" as they say....as if the patient is not theirs too. Hopefully, you'll find a great job where they respect the CNA.

I get the feeling of giving yourself grace and waiting to see if things get better. I quit my job in October this year as a clinical application specialist at a private hospital. It was such a toxic environment and you are right it is all about the money not the patients.

God bless you!! I've only been in my LTC position for about 8 months now. This past week was the straw that broke the camel's back for me (or like you said, the culmination)!! I applied to another position and they've already called back for the interview (surprising being the employer they are....was expecting a longer wait). God willing they come through and I can get out of my hell hole as well!! DO YOU!!! Life is too damn short!! We need to be happy!! HEALTHCARE in AMERICA SUCKS!!! All the best for the new year!!

The Healthcare system is so broken! Even as a provider myself, I dread dealing with other providers when it comes to my health and that of my loved ones. Greed is costing people's lives and that frustrates me. The lives of our patients should always be first. Good job figuring our what matters!

My wife was an NP in NJ for 23 years and loved her work in pre-operative testing and evaluation. She worked for an anesthesiology group at Englwood Hospital and loved the people and her patients, but noted how for-profit motives in healthcare were changing the focus of her group from the patient to the process. ICD-10 and reduced Medicare and insurance reimbursement made coding and rote processing of patients by illness type more important than individualized care plans based on a patient's unique situations. I've been treated by doctors in Costa Rica, France and Italy, where care is nationalized and profit is driven out, and was amazed at how much time doctors and nurses spent asking ME questions and getting my feedback, instead of filling out repetitive forms and signing countless waivers and consents while they follow a pre-programmed set of prescriptions, test and referrals without communicating to me directly. We MUST nationalize and universalize our healthcare system, as tens of thousands go bankrupt annually from overwhelming hospital costs, even among the insured. It's insane to pay for what we pay WILLINGLY for the results we get.

Family NP for 8 years, RN for 15. As an NP in a family practice clinic… the message from admin is always… SEE MORE PATIENTS, do work on your days off, take call with no compensation. I’m in rural health so we always seem to do more with less. Recently, new contracts, want to cut base pay significantly and have us make it up in production, it’s the last straw, if they won’t negotiate I’m outta there. Maybe will be even if they do…. I was reading that list of when you know you should quit your job… girl, I have most of those!! Something’s gotta give for sure. Good for you for doing what you need to take care of yourself!!

I have been a RN for 12 years and i love every bit of it .Nursing will get to you if you let it! everyone is not Cut that way you have to have tough skin but whatever makes you happy does it.
I felt EVERY bit of this! I don’t know the next chapter of nursing for me. I feel lost!
I also had NP jobs in the past and two of them I only lasted for about 2 months or so..I was not happy. The most recent job I had was great but there were too much politics and disrespect towards NPs. It was one of the most stable jobs, but I had to quit, all I know is that I am was not seeing myself working for that organisation and with the same people for another year, 2 years, 5 years, etc. Now I am 1 month in my new NP job, not as good paying as my previous job but hey, it is not stressful, my manager is not a micro manager, I only work with 1 person, I am autonomous... I will see how I go... See, it is not about the salary at all, it is about being happy, satisfied, and the people you work with. We are NPs, we can do what we need to do - adding more value to our profession! Congrats to you.

Healthcare has been broken for years, especially Long term care geriatrics. Staffing issues with 3 nursing assistants at night, each CNA has 30 patients and are expected to give baths, showers, get people up for rehab, early appointments and breakfast. Old people sitting in wheelchairs 5 am. Waiting for dining room to open at 8am. Safety concerns for nurses...Younger patient's friends visiting, smoking weed and won't leave. No sercurity at Nursing home.
Exactly. The role of the CNA was originally to assist the nurse. But seems like CNA means "the person fully responsible for patient care". There are nurses that do their share of the so-called "dirty work".....then there are those who say "I don't know how to do "CNA Work"....makes me wonder what kind of school they went to, that didn't teach basic care.
Just came across your video and I totally hear you, I noticed this early on in my career as an NP in Massachusetts. I changed up specialties and employers several times, but I kept getting burnt out. I was an NP since 2010, finally quit in Sept 2021 and I haven’t looked back. Working as an RN in home care now, but I don’t know that I’ll be doing that forever. Good luck!!

Wow. It really makes me pause when I hear you say the truth which is “profit over patients”. All of us in healthcare see it. I want NOT to believe that it will always be like this; but after being an RN for 16 years and not seeing things change I feel unhopeful at times. What do we do???
Nursing home is brutal. I worked there for years as a nurse and honestly, you can try but alone, you can’t change them. You will fight a battle that you can’t win and they’ll be watching you from the side. It’s either you join them or quit. It’s sad. You can only help your patients your own little way to keep your peace of mind when you lay down on your bed at night. I currently work an an NP in a FQHC, a different battle but at least much better than a nursing home. Nursing home will make you sad.
This is so true! I have did not work nursing home as a nurse and when I tell you I was shocked when I went there as a NP! Just sad!

I have been following you for less than a year, and I wish I was aware of you sooner. First, I congratulate you for hanging in there as long as you did. I think the fact that you had a decent boss was responsible. I worked for a company that was strictly involved with the business and profit angle and basically wanted the providers to upsell like a fast-food restaurant. I lasted for 5 months and during that time I experienced moral distress, with physical and emotional manifestations. I experienced an extended job search and the nursing home job was the first offer. Although the experience was poor it reinforced the fact that my integrity was more important than a paycheck. I take my responsibilities very seriously and I have always practiced in an ethical, compassionate manner. I know that you will find the right path for yourself. Blessings for a fulfilling New Year.

I am a therapist (Occupational therapy) And I have 5 years experience primarily in a SNF setting . I completely understand . I am in a similar situation , and I was just telling a friend that I need to take a long break from that setting . It’s just so sad it is really profit over the patient . I’m an OTR and I hate it. I’m looking to get out of the profession.
Became an LPN in 1998 and an RN in 2008, only to now discover I stayed way too long. I was rarely satisfied as a professional because I rarely had time to fulfill my personal mission of CARING for those in my care. I even tried leadership positions, hoping that would empower me to promote caring environments, only to discover I had to deal with corporations that only want to get paid, at anybody’s expense. I haven’t worked in healthcare since February 2020 because of a physical disability, but I don’t miss it at all. I definitely chose the wrong career field because health”care” is not caring at all! I understand you completely.
1st, thank you for the care and concern you wholeheartedly provided to the patients under your charge. Also, thank you to all health care providers for all you do/have done to care for patients! 2nd, I commend you for being honest w/yourself and taking ACTION to find your true purpose/calling/passion. Yes. Being unhappy in “any” life situation can kill you as you will feel bad, over eat, over spend, over sleep, over drink, etc., and other self destructing behavior due to unhappiness. I wish you tremendous success in all future endeavors! Persistence & determination in finding your true calling - will eventually create the life you want!

Don't let doubt hold you back from what your are passionate about because everyone has different experiences. What she says is definitely true but she also stated that she did not love doing what she did in the first place. If it is your passion, go into it with an open heart but with the notes of what was mentioned and gain your own experiences. All the best to you. Blessings.

I felt like you were speaking to me in this video! When it's time to quit and you feel anxiety and dread, something is wrong!
LPN for 8 years after changing careers. I also had a lot of high pressure, high stress, jobs for a long time before becoming a nurse. Healthcare today grinds down it's most caring, talented, dedicated, hard working people into the dust. After witnessing this, I stay in the lightweight jobs (private duty). A lot less money, but I get to care for my patients. Sometimes, I get depressed at what they are doing to nurses and doctors and to the medicine itself. Corporate medicine and the MBA's that run it are destroying the healthcare infrastructure in this country.

I know I don't know you, but I'm proud of you for taking this step forward. It can be so scary, but I know with proper rest amd recovery from the burnout you'll find an opportunity that is perfect for you. So congratulations 🎊🎊 I hope the new year brings you lots of good things!

all healthcare is going to profit over patients. I have been an MRI tech for 18 years, the last 15 with a company that was fantastic in the beginning. The last 8 years was all about doing more with less and 'herd em in and herd em out' appointment times got shorter and shorter. I quit last May. I thought I would NEVER go back to healthcare, but I love what I do. I did numerous interviews and took a PRN job to see if what they told me was exactly what would happen. After 60 days I accepted a full time position because it was exactly what I was promised. 3 days a week, an assistant and I do the exams on my timeline, because it's all inpatients. I have learned that if it doesn't work, I can quit. There are lots of jobs out there and we do not have to be slaves to our employers anymore. Being debt free is the key.
This coming March will be 9 yrs that I put my papers in and retired from my RN job. 32 yrs at the bedside of a major teaching hospital ( a county hospital),worked in all the hell holes: Emergency Room, Neurosurgical ICU, Medical ICU.Finished my final 19 years working in Trauma ICU ,of which the Burn Unit was included.
Had enough one day and retired. Am much happier.
I’m a NP. I really love my job but, you are right about money being a lot of the focus of healthcare here. It is such a complex issue that needs to be tackled, I think universal healthcare is part of the solution. We already have for profit insurance companies managing our care. Hope you find a great new position.

this is primarily why I went into Acute Care NP; I knew I wanted to take care of my community but I also knew my care as an NP would be at the mercy of insurance companies. Another reason I avoided primary care was because it felt like there was a lot of hand holding and spoon feeding patients and personally, either you allow me to help you get to your healthiest self or stay sick. In acute care, patients get what they need regardless of what insurance says.
