I cannot listen to the title track without shedding tears. You should really listen to the track while reading the lyrics. It's about Maynard's mom finally passing away after being ill for years and what makes it even more heartbreaking is that Judith was a believer and Maynard is an atheist. But he respected her beliefs beautifully in that song and it feels like he wished everything his mom believed in was true after all.
Ive got to apologize, but i must make a correction. Tho he may not be what one would call a Christian, he's not quite athiest either. Its not black and white, there are a lot of shades if grey in between. He is deeply spiritual, as are the rest of the band, and he believes there to be a higher power. Agnostic may be a better term, tho i suspect hes heavy into hindu philosophy as some of their music has a heavy hindu influence, using many of their instrumantation tonage (ie. The electric drum pads Danny uses, made to sound like the hindu tabla and ghatams) as well as using quite a bit of hindu imagery. Plus he alludes quite a bit to the collective subconscious and of us being divine spiritual beings. (See Pneuma, Parabol/Parabola). But on that note they do use instrumentation from all over the world, like the aboriginal digeridoo.
I bought this c/d a few weeks ago because Maynard and I share something in common, my Mother died in January of 2022 . On the bright side of this is that I will have 10,000 days of sobriety in June. I only wish my Mom would have been here to help me celebrate. Thanks A.A and thanks Floyd.
Jambi is the genie from Pee Wee's Playhouse. One of them (can't remember. Danny maybe) said the riff sounded like his intro music. The song is about the birth of his son Devo H Keenan and how it changed his life.
Yesssss!!!! This song took a whole new meaning for me when my only son was born in 2008. The title cone from a Bass riff that Justin brought to the band. Meka Leka High Meka Hiny Ho. The band said the riff sounded like jambi's theme for Pee-wee's playhouse. An inside joke for the band, and this isn't the only one. Dammit I love this band
Actually, the term 10,000 days is representative of the number of days his mother was alive and in her paralyze state, she live 10,000 days in the fire and now you’re going home as the song refers to it. It may not have been exactly 10,000 days but it was approximately that which gives it a even more meaningful significance.
She was Paralyzed from the waist down when he was 11 years old and she passed away in March 2003 when Maynard was 38 years old so it was after he wrote the lyrics. If you did the math it was 27 years later she passed away or 9,855 days or basically 10,000 Days.
I missed the notification but Tool is one of my favorite bands. You should also post on Rumble build-up over there for when they start paying all content creators just a thought T.
Jambi is my favorite tool song, if i were able to pick one. I always imagined that jamby was like maybe a nickname he had for his mother who basically this whole album is about. But I think the most important thing is that we've all or most of us have had somebody in our lives that you would give everything up that's good in your life to get back And what makes it really tender and sad is that that person's gone and you can't get them back
I didnt have the ability to put in words why the hell I`m watching reactions. It`s so stupid right? I know my woman think I`m being ridicolous every time I put on my headset to have some alone time for watching videos like this. You explained the reason to me, for which I want to thank you for. (Now I can finally shut her up lol)
This is a perfect album. I had head it was about 10thousand days that his mom lived. Wings for Marie is about letting go of his mom when she died I had thought. This may be the bast album made. Top 10 of all time any artist.
Thank you! I’m with you in that 10,000 Days is every bit as good (slightly overall “better” imo) as Lateralus, Aenima or 10,000 Days. Yet, I can still acknowledge that Lateralus to the masses might be considered more uniquely special bc of how spiritual the entire album is. I’m a hardcore fan of 30 years btw.
Love everything about Tool. Probably what I love most is their frequent tempo / progression / time signature changes. I mean, you have to listed to their song a few times through before you can get the gyst of it. The drummer, Danny Carrey, is it. His kit has like 134 things to smack. The guitarist, Adam Jones, isn't really a virtuoso exactly (I know it might be controversial opinion) and if you notice there's no real guitar solo in any Tool song, which is kinda cool. Jones is more of a world-class composer in my view. Look at guitar tabs for their songs, and you'll see he doesn't try to impress with technicalities, it's his tone and progressions that kill you. The guitar chords are practically percussive. (one song that might have a "solo", "Eulogy" on Aenima, is a two-note solo once at one octave, next at a few octaves lower - that is played masterfully. )
You react to some great music. Love the channel. You should check out the kids from O'Keefe music foundation cover Tools 46 and 2 ,you won't be disappointed
Maynard’s mother (Judith Marie) had a stroke that left her extremely debilitated when he was young, she was a very devout Christian. From the time of her stroke to the time she passed away was roughly 10,000 days. He is not atheist, when his mother suffered her stroke the church she attended abandoned her and he saw the incredible hypocrisy in the members and it repulsed him. His mother was the shining light of what her religion preached but she was discarded by those who claim to be righteous (wings for Marie 1 & 2). “ You’re the only one who can hold your head up high, shake your fist at the gates, saying I HAVE COME HOME”. Maynard is not against religion, he is against authoritarianism and hypocrisy especially from those in authority, “THINK FOR YOUR SELF, QUESTION AUTHORITY” he is all about individualism, if your going to believe in something then live it like his mother did, “Set as I am in my way and my arrogance Burden of proof tossed upon non-believers You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence Judith Marie, unconditional one”. Though Maynard never talks about his individual beliefs because his mother was the very example of a real Christian and Christianity that if he dose believe in Christ it is because his mothers example, something I think he came to realize when she passed away. Because, even after 27 or so years of be severely disabled she never wavered or questioned her faith. When he says “never took a life but surly saved one” I believe he was talking about him, because of her example he was able to let go other anger he had for those who abandoned her. Be open minded, sincere, don’t be judgmental, don’t be afraid to question, and be kind.
He's talking to his mom and explaining how she was in a veg state for 28 yrs and never waivered her faith in God and help fir the church. So he as a son in the beginning is saying how not even the preacher and the sympathy he was arousing in the service, compared to her were judas. And that after all her pain and torment she deserves her wings to fly w God. It's the most beautiful song for a mother.

I'd like to also add that I didn't know this was about Maynard's son... makes a lot more sense now
Wings for Marie &10,000 days is about his mom Judith
Rosetta Stoned is one of the funniest songs ever. 😂

That was simply a trick question, because each song you hear becomes the new favorite
Speaking of TOOL, of coarse
The News has an old philosophy that if "It bleeds it leads." The puppy rescue stories are always the final story.
Iambic Pentameter is what Shakespeare's prose is set in, and so is the Jambic song.

Love 10000 days. Danny Carey is one of the best drummers ever
Vicarious is awesome one of my tool faves 🔥
10,000 days is also the length of the Vietnam War, the first televised war.
Points for the Tosin connection. Great album.
I believe our TOOL ARMY is growing nicely
I can hear and see you bro, but 3 hours after your post 😳
Lol
Grrrrr oh well replay it is

Tool songs are rituals as all songs are
If you don't cry listening to this album, you must be a Cylon.

UA-cam hates us
AAL totally progressive metal like tool
This is amazing!!
7empest is my favorite.
Personally I feel that TOOL blows Pink Floyd out of the water.
The song Jimmy was about the 11-year-old dealing with the trauma his mother endered.
More the pf of the 2000s. They hadn't fully developed by Ænima
The Pot...just a good Ole fashioned wtf u talking bout Gmen? Ganja?! ..please u must be out ur mind
“These guys are the Master of atmosphere” this guy definitely hasn’t heard Burzum before😂.
I wish you would find some positive hard rock.. Tired of downer music
What do you suggest? I only do the songs that people request.
Lateralus is almost entirely positive
Tool are not downers, come on…
