As a Padres fan, I saw a lot of Sean Manaea's pitched games when he was on our team. He was good in 2021, but got rocked in 2022. Glad to see that he made the adjustments and is doing well for the Mets.
Hopefully we'll see you in the NLCS! I used to live in San Diego and the Padres are my 'second team', and favorite West Coast team...y'all have a good squad (I loved the way Profar robbed 'em then hopped away from the crowd, after he straight picked their pockets)...Mets and Pads will both finish off the opponents at home tonight!

Padres are a load to deal with this year man. I knew sooner or later they would figure things out and dominate. Won't be surprised if they win it all.
There's something about the excitement from the players that just adds to the energy of tough at-bats and amazing plays. It's one thing for Manaea to get out of the jam in the 6th with that double play, but to see Manaea's reaction afterwards makes it even BETTER! Dude's become a lot more expressive and I'm loving it! LFGM!!!!!!!
Congrats to the Mets and their fans. I am a Phillies fan and I can't believe the Phils have gotten this far. The only thing that got us into the playoffs was an unbelievable first half of the season. We have been crappy since the All Star break and our bullpen has been absolutely pathetic. If the offense doesn't wake up and get a 5 or 6 run lead before the bullpen comes in...we are toast. Congrats to the Mets for playing team ball and not trying to hit a HR with every swing.

I'm a lifelong Phillies fan also, but as I've said before as well as many others have said, the Phillies just haven't been the same team after the All-Star break as they were for the first half of the season. I surely can't explain the funk they've been in and neither can they, but if they don't snap out of it soon, they'll be booking tee times for the week-end.

I'd argue the Phillies are still, talent-wise, the better team. The Mets are just head and shoulders mentally tougher than everyone else right now. The last week and a half has been one of the more insane runs I've ever seen a team go on.

I’m so confused on how the Mets can go from an absolute joke last year to on the brink of the NLCS this year.

Stearns made some great moves. This is a completely different team built around the same core that won 101 games in 2022
Last year? The Mets were a joke thru May of this season..then they turned it on
certain unexpected things happened and then there is Grimace. the Mets are a sum of their parts more than anything else. they get clutch hits and get big outs when they need it. There is something about their chemistry too. surprise reclimation projects in Severino and Manaea have both worked out to make a top of the rotation of guys who normally thought of as no more than 3s in a rotation to passable 1 and 2 along with Quintana. it truly is amazing. Mendoza should get tons of credit. It is not really about one guy with them, it is belief, energy and chemistry, unusual in baseball, but its true. they have proven it.
You just gotta make it to the playoffs. Once you there it’s a whole different story.

i am from New York City. i just got home from a long day of fighting off homeless people on the subway after getting spit on and chewed out by my boss. i stopped by my local bodega to pick up a bacon egg and cheese. i've just kicked off my shoes and kissed my 6 children and overweight wife to sleep. i'm now catching up to the MLB scoreboard for the day and see there is a clerical error. it shows the NY Mets defeated the Phillies 7-2 and took a 2-1 lead in the NLDS. what was the actual correct score of the game?

It's the same in all sports: It's the team that gets hot at just the right time (e.g. last year's Dbacks; the 1988 Dodgers; the '69 Mets) that can produce magical seasons. There's rarely a way to explain it which is what makes watching the games so fascinating to me.

Exactly. This is why I hate the MLB postseason. Teams play most every day for 162 games and then they sit for a week and rust. If this is how MLB is going to do it then the Division Series should be 7 games.
@billbill5326 This would be wild, but you've got 6 teams on either side of the bracket right? Just have EVERYONE play a "wildcard round". With the number one seed versus the number six, two vs four, and so on. That way every team plays in the playoff pretty quick, and you don't get great teams knocked out of contention quick.

I appreciate Edwin Diaz for what he did for us in 2022. It was magical. But the one characteristic I love about this Mets run is the mental toughness of the team, especially the bullpen. I would be OK not having to rely on Diaz in a crucial situation. I just don't trust him. In a crucial spot I want Peterson and Stenek > Diaz.
