uploaded october 29 2008...damn, that's how you know how classic this is when it was uploaded that early on youtube. truly a masterpiece of a song, always takes me to a very calming place in my mind, i feel like i'm there with del walking with him on the sidewalk to grab some brews. love it
I can honestly feel the warmth of the Autumn air and see the aligned brick buildings, corner store, and attentive Muslim baker observing Del rush by with his grey jacket... a slice of life scene of two young amateur weed peddlers in the streets of Oakland. Brilliant stuff.
I was new at this school, in Lincoln heights, (l.a) and I started talking to this dude about graff n shit one day, he asked me if I dug hiphop I was like yeah man... He gave me a CD the next day which had some mos def, dead prez, wu, and this joint... I had heard all them joints except for this one. I always wondered wgo it was. Turns out its del. Ice cubes cousin n allat. Crazy. I kinda heard tru somewhere that dude that gave ne that cd had passed due to drug od. I hope that aint tru. Bless up world.
Absolute fire! This track brings me back to me and my boys back in the day when it first came out. The City was always the spot. Lives in Oakland for six years. Probably not enough time for me to be considered to be from but I push hard for it ever since. One! ❤
Fell asleep one time with a Mikey Metric mix playing. This track was in it. I had a weird dream. My pastor was singing the "Roll to the corner" loop. Don't remember if I had been drinking or not. Solid tune though!
This album was supposed to released under Elektra, but Del was dropped from the label before the master was done. If you really listen you can tell the album wasn't finished. I believe you are right...it was originally only released in Japan, but was later released on Hiero Imperium and was sold from Hieroglyphics.com ....that's where I got my copy back in the day lol Regardless, this is one my absolute favorite songs and albums! Production was all in house Hiero Crew (A-Plus, Del, Opio & DJ Toure) "Love is Worth" is another underground classic from this album too.
From what I know del never released any instrumentals for this album because a lot of things were happening during the production of it, like getting dropped from his label
Still bumping this flip in 2023! Me and cousin love this song and sing all the time. One of my favorite songs on the album🔥
I got here by misspelling "corner store" while searching for that Macklemore song. I stumbled on something a hella lot better.
What a great error!
Best mistake one could make
Yeah this is one of my favorite del songs as well, good accidental choice lol
Yes!
Won the lottery
Something so calming about this tune.
The sample+ the subject matter is perfect...for getting perved
PKSkyler would you happen to know what the sample is from?
Agreed.

Del had me considering getting my lip pierced. It would've been a horrible mistake...but I just kept thinking Del makes it look cool.
