  • On a whim we went for a cruise and ended up driving a small portion of the old Kettle Valley Railway outside Beaverdell BC.

Nice Fall colours! It's a beautiful area to explore and we're lucky to still have this history available to us. FYI, there weren't any passenger stations in this area. Every passing siding had a section house (track maintenance crew quarters) and they tossed all of their garbage of 'tin' cans, bottles of Ketchup etc, coffee tins and tobacco tins in a heap. If you look closely at the 'rock cut areas' you'll find rusted out tins of Black Powder strewn all over the lower embankments. The building is actually the old 'Section' house. The passenger trains only stopped as required as this was an "f" Flag stop where a sign hung on the side of the building. If the sign was put into it's bracket, as a signal for the engine crew to see, the train would stop. No flag, no stop. Really a simple method.

I’m new to your channel and from Kelowna! Have you checked out the old “haunted” house down in Myra Canyon?
